Lawsuit of the Day: Stop Trying To Hurt Obama

Palin Vogue.JPGA Kansas City woman has sued Sarah Palin, John McCain, and other members of the McCain-Palin campaign in Federal Court. She alleges the Republican ticket has caused her “terror of the heart” over the safety of Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama.

According to the complaint:

Plaintiff Mary Kay Green, pro se, suffered profound despair at the assassinations of her beloved leaders President John. F. Kennedy and U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy and her hero the Reverend Martin Luther King, and suffers terror of the heart, anxiety and grave fear for the life of Presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Barack Obama, and her candidate for President, due to the reckless, intentional and irresponsible speeches, ads and conduct of Governor Sarah Palin, Presidential candidate and U.S. Senator John McCain and his campaign manager Richard “Rick” Davis to which she has been subjected to here in Kansas City, Missouri, and which are beyond “shouting fire in a public theater.

One blogger gives us some backstory on Ms. Mary Kay Green:

According to her personal web site, when not standing up to bullies, Mary Kay Green is “an attorney who — from her senior year in law school — has handled civil rights cases.” She is also the author of several books, including the soon to be released Sundance and Cherokee Moon: A Book about Robert Redford, Movies, Miracles, and Mania, and the appropriately titled Women of Courage. which chronicles the struggles of such women as Joan of Arc, Carrie Nation, and Rosa Parks.

But is this really necessary? I thought Obama was bulletproof. Check out the complaint below.

Oy. I bet this wacko has been a self righteous thorn in people's sides her whole life. I'm sure like most other older woman who go to law school she thought that her personal "opinion" and "life experience" was always relevant to whatever question was asked in class. I'm 100% for Obama and I now want McCain to win just to piss her off.

What is it when you file a complaint in court containing facts that you know to be false:

She should be disbarred for filing this frivilious complaint. She clearly does not have the integrity or respect for the legal process to be an attorney.

I'm saying there is a lack of subject matter and personal jurisdiction.
But, on the off chance that Sarah Palin does get to read this, and on the off chance that the McCain/Palin ticket is successful, do you think Palin will try to abuse power and get this woman prosecuted federally?

Strange. I know of at least two other Kansas Citians--that should know better--with similar irrational assassination fears. Both are torn between voting for McCain to spare Obama and voting for Obama and perpetuating a national tragedy. Novel strategy GOP.

Didn't a judge sue the dry cleaners for something like 2 million dollars within the past two years? I don't think someone's being an attorney leads to a lack of filing frivolous, ridiculous claims.

Elie,

If you are going to post the sTTTory, you might also want to note that the alleged threat at a Palin rally has been debunked as B.S.

For those too lazy to click, it says: The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.

LOL @ 12

Sounds like the economy's hurting civil rights practice too. If anyone wants to give her business:
http://martindale.com/Mary-Kay-Green/1059567-lawyer.htm

The fact that this woman is an attorney, and still thinks this suit will illustrate more than a desperate cry for attention from a (hopefully retired) skank scorned, just shows that 1) anyone can get a JD, and 2) anyone can support Democrats. No brains required. It's also ironic that she like strong women like Joan of Arc, as Palin is basically the modern analog - I strongly doubt a time-wasting hippie tramp
like Ms. Green could don camo and take care of business.

A writer with a soon to be released book doing something controversial in order to boost their publicity? Moreover, doing so in such a manner that it appeals to a large chunk of the "OBAMA IS KIND OF LIKE JESUS' population?

I'm shocked. Just shocked. This is truly unheard of.

I'm lost because I'm pretty sure this woman does not have standing to assert this claim. There are no facts offered to show that she has a close relationship with Obama or that she's even met him. She really needs to go sit down somewhere.

Secret Service says "Kill him" allegation unfounded
By Andrew M. Seder aseder@timesleader.com
Staff Writer

SCRANTON – The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.

The Scranton Times-Tribune first reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and then again in its print edition Wednesday. The first story, written by reporter David Singleton, appeared with allegations that while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Obama’s name a man in the audience shouted “kill him."

News organizations including ABC, The Associated Press, The Washington Monthly and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann reported the claim, with most attributing the allegations to the Times-Tribune story.

Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.

“I was baffled,” he said after reading the report in Wednesday’s Times-Tribune.

He said the agency conducted an investigation Wednesday, after seeing the story, and could not find one person to corroborate the allegation other than Singleton.

Slavoski said more than 20 non-security agents were interviewed Wednesday, from news media to ordinary citizens in attendance at the rally for the Republican vice presidential candidate held at the Riverfront Sports Complex. He said Singleton was the only one to say he heard someone yell “kill him.”

“We have yet to find someone to back up the story,” Slavoski said. “We had people all over and we have yet to find anyone who said they heard it.”

Hackett said he did not hear the remark.

Slavoski said Singleton was interviewed Wednesday and stood by his story but couldn’t give a description of the man because he didn’t see him he only heard him.

When contacted Wednesday afternoon, Singleton referred questions to Times-Tribune Metro Editor Jeff Sonderman. Sonderman said, “We stand by the story. The facts reported are true and that’s really all there is.”

Slavoski said the agents take such threats or comments seriously and immediately opened an investigation but after due diligence “as far as we’re concerned it’s closed unless someone comes forward.” He urged anyone with knowledge of the alleged incident to call him at 346-5781. “We’ll run at all leads,” he said.

@ #'s 15, 24, and 42:

Maybe the Scranton claim is "unfounded" but that doesn't change the fact that "Kill him!" has been shouted at at least one other McCain/Palin rally. It's on video. One debunked claim (some reporters ARE just itching to stir things up) does not eliminate the clear presence of wackos at other rallies. Not that there aren't any wackos at Obama rallies, but I've yet to hear any of them call for McCain's or Palin's assassination.

@46 et al.

Soulja Girl from the MARTA talked about killing Bush - I didn't see you very upset about that. How many effigies of Reagan/Bush I/Bush II have been burned? Campus bookstores had Bush II voodoo dolls some time ago. There are abuse-Bush video games on the internet. The "Regime Change Begins at Home" bumper stickers, the "Not My President" shirts, and the "1.20.09" decals all seem a bit treasonous too, don't they? Ad nauseam.

But when you direct this sort of attention toward Obama, it's more than merely tasteless, it's racist too. So we have not only hypocrisy, but overreactive political correctness as well.

Get a grip. It's not a credible threat, and investigating it is a waste of our tax dollars and time. It's embarassing that so much of our country doesn't realize there's anything better to do than harp on such incredibly stupid things. They could at least post comments on blogs.
