Build a Solo Practice seems to have lots of great advice, like don't worry about getting into the highest rank school and downturns are the best time to start a solo practice.

"If a priest speaks to Northeastern Catholics, and it is neither Christmas nor Easter, does he make a sound?"

Elie, this might be your best line ever. You made a point, shared an opinion, and made it humorous without hitting us over the head. Do that every day and you'll be Lat.

You blow at writing, though the Northeastern Catholic line was funny. Do this every day and I will slowly wean myself off Above the Law, checking fewer times each day, reading only the comments more and more often, and eventually forgetting you completely. All while still being a David Lat groupie.

"New York City raised the fine on people who refuse to pick up after their dog for the first time in 30 years."

I hope the fine is substantial if you haven't picked up the poop in 30 years. Oh wait, what does that sentence really mean. Who the hell wrote that? Can I get an editor here?

And it's Paterson -- one "t."

16 - I didn't read that entry my first time through. It's really amazing--I won't criticize typos on here unless they're glaringly obvious, but Mystal is up against a pretty significant deficit when it comes to general writing ability.

As a current law school applicant, I'm honestly shocked that anyone who graduated from HLS writes THAT poorly.

19 - as a current law school student (2L), no one gives a shit what you think. I completely agree with you, I just hate anyone who isn't suffering in law school as much as I am right now.

The anti-Catholic element is becoming more and more prominant in ATL. It's a vain attempt to hide your dull, uninteresting postings. If you're so intellectually brave, let's see some anti-Islam humor.

oh stfu, his line not anymore anti-catholic than for priests to use the pulpit to push their political agenda. we can make up our own damn minds without priests trying to convince us we're going to hell if we vote for candidate X or candidate Y.

I'm a 1L at a top school, and I really don't think that going solo is the answer to anyone's problem. If BigLaw doesn't work out, I'll go into government work or maybe public interest, but let's be realistic: developing your own book of business and practice sounds like a task better left to Hercules.

Elie,

When a person is insane, as you clearly are, do you know that you're insane? Maybe you're just sitting around, reading huffingtonpost.com, masturbating in your own feces...do you just stop and go, 'WOW! It is amazing how fucking crazy I really am'?

avatar
27 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, October 27, 2008 11:21 PM

25 - Do you remember that scene in Nutty Professor: "Show me muscle again! Oh, Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!"?

Hilarious.

Stinking tomorrow because I didn't make it home to shower = not hilarious for anyone. Enjoy your time in school (and if you're really at a "top school," a B+ is all you need) and start worrying about developing your own book of business in 7 years.

#4 here. I didn't write comment #5 but that's who I am.

For once Elie was actually a little clever and everyone's flipping.

If you're a devout Catholic don't get mad at Elie for pointing out the truth. Get mad at Catholic politicians and voters who blow off the Church. The Dem politicians are all pro-choice but that's who gets elected in heavily Catholic places like MA, NJ and NY. Obviously no one is listening to Church teachings that unborn babies are people and you can't kill them or elect people in favor of that killing.

Elie, I bash you with relish when you suck. This post is actually a step in the right direction.

Elie's not a Catholic hater any more than the Catholic politicians and voters are. He's just observig and commenting on how things are.

I'd love to see what would happen if Elie made some wise ass comment about liberal northeast jews. He'd get his ass ripped open. I love how the Elie haters are saying how witty he is for making this anti-Catholic comment. Keep bashing the Catholics fat ass -- you'll win over the board soon enough.

31 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, October 28, 2008 1:34 AM

Hey Elie how about a few comments on how things are in the Muslim community? Didn't think so, coward.

avatar
32 Posted by guest | Permalink Tuesday, October 28, 2008 1:59 AM

The catholic comment was hilarious and well-delivered. It's ironic that so many commenters are so thin-skinned.

However, there's no excuse for not cleaning up after your dog for 30 years, or for writing such a poorly-crafted sentence. But really, if a dog is around for 30 years, that'd just be impressive. Maybe the city could give it and its owner a break...

25 thinks his LSAT assures him of a 7 figure income, the most successful people in the country all share one common trait. the balls to go out on their own and make shit happen. a fair number of big law shops started out with someone or a group of friends going out on their own.

Jeez, lighten up people. It's a religious joke, something we Catholics should be able to take, considering that our religion is, you know, true.

25 You act as if there will be government jobs for you or public interest work if you can't get a Big Law job. Wake Up. Have you seen what's going on in this country? 34 is right. Every Big Law firm started with someone or a group of people being pioneers. And if you read Build A Solo Practice blogs you'd learn something very interesting right here:

34/37: I don't think 25 is denigrating solos; if anything, he seems to respect the difficulty in opening an maintaining a solo practice. I'm a solo and wouldn't recommend it to someone fresh out of law school either.
