‘Terrorist’ Coming to a Law School Near You
Remember when Lee Bollinger invited Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia? Bollinger took a lot of heat and then responded with an insulting 10 minute diatribe directed at the man he didn’t have to invite to speak in the first place. Then Ahmadinejad covered himself in rhetorical poo as he tried to kill Americans with the sheer amount of refuse he expelled at the podium. It was fun for the whole family.
Well, we’ll see if the Georgetown Law National Lawyers Guild takes any criticism for their next guest: Obama’s Manchurian brain-washer Bill Ayers. Here are the event details:
Professor William Ayers of the University of Illinois is speaking at Georgetown Law on Monday November 17th at 4:30 pm in Hart Auditorium of Mcdonough Hall (Main classroom building on the Law Center Campus).Bill Ayers will be speaking on his forthcoming book, Race Course Against White Supremancy, co-authored with his wife and fellow Weather Underground leader Bernadine Dohrn, and the new addition of Fugitive Days, his memoirs from when he was underground. A question and answer session will follow.
Anybody think this will be a big deal?
Look, if this Ayers guy is a nefarious presence that calls into question the patriotism of anybody who associates with him, then what does is say that the 14th best law school in the country has invited him to speak? Clearly, anybody who continues to attend GULC after November 17th doesn’t love America!
A terrorist is a terrorist. Ahmadinejad basically caused the City of New York to grind to a halt, surely an evil domestic terrorist like Ayers will at least cause one hell of a traffic jam around DuPont Circle.
Right?

NEWS ALERT: Sarah Palin is an idiot.
Question for commenters: was Ayers ever prosectued? If not, why not? If so, why was he not convicted? Just curious.
Weather Underground to TTT!
Well, if Sarah Palin says Barack Obama and terrorist and "Palin around," then there must be something to it.
Mooseknuckles.
Well, if Sarah Palin says Barack Obama and terrorist and "Palin around," then there must be something to it.
Sarah Palin to "Mooseknuckles"?
GULC is no where near Dupont Circle, MysTTTal.
dear 4,
DOJ is TTT. HTH.
Dear 9,
It is now.
What do you call a group of people who fight against an unpopular and illegal war, a corrupted President, and corporation run amuk after years of peaceful protest and economic resistance has failed?
Sounds like heroes/patriots to me.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0343168/
Many of the founding fathers were "domestic terrorists"
MysTTTal
4 - DOJ shenanigans, illegal wiretaps, etc.
I find it astonishing that the posters here don't seem to think terrorism is a big deal.
That he holds any position just shows how degenerate the universities in this country have become.
George Washington to Gitmo!
i thought only Arabs could be terrorists
For the good of the country, perhaps Ayers will firebomb GULC like he did to a judge's home when the judge's children were asleep.
Classy. Thank God for procedural errors that let monsters like this run around and publish "progressive" race relations books.
15 - There are degrees of terrorism. Ayres tried to set off bombs in front of empty government buildings at night, after issuing specific warnings to avoid any loss of life. Is that a good thing? Of course not. But in the grand scheme of things Ayres did relatively little damage to the social fabric of the nation. His acts pale in comparison to those of OBL, McVeigh, or other prominent terrorists.
15 to chief strategist for Sarah Palin in 2012
15,
You should see the monuments we've built in DC to honor these slaveholding domestic terrorists from the 1700s. You thought the Taliban was bad?
This is just disgusting. Really.
I can't wait til January 8th when Nick Saban leads the glorious Crimson Tide to kick the shit out of Coach Ayers and the Weather Underground in the BCS National Championship Game.
The Weather Underground's offense, which is a spread style offense that specializes in bombing the Pentagon, stands no chance against Alabama's D line.
21-
Yes, the Founding Fathers were terrorists who wrote propaganda pamphlets openly advocating the extermination of millions in order to rid the world of the plague of bourgeois dissenters.
Exactly the same, right? right?
21 - your hatred of the freest country in the world which gives you the freedom to spew your disgusting rants is pathetic. Really.
- 15
As Bill Ayers said himself, "Guilty as hell, free as a bird—it’s a great country."
I'd say 'God Damn America.'
Will Rev Wrong be speaking somewhere? Now since ZeroBama won the election, all the shady characters are out of the woodwork, it is gonna be fun to watch.
ALSO, don't forget that one of the National Lawyers Guild's top attorneys, Lynn Stewart, worked as a terrorist operative by helping 1993 WTC bomber Omar Abdel-Rahman secretly send communique from his prison cell.
Seems the commie group NLG supports any cause aimed at the destruction of our country.
"Bollinger took a lot of heat and then responded with an insulting 10 minute diatribe directed at the man he didn't have to invite to speak in the first place"
Elie, get ready for the over-emotional tirade against you for saying Bollinger was "insulting" to Ahmadinejad in 5....4....3....
24 / 15 - Acknowledging the skeltons in our nation's history doesn't mean that one hates the country. The fact that you'd prefer to ignore the fact that much of American society was built on the back of slave labor is what is truly disgusting and pathetic.

"Supremancy"??? a "new addition of Fugitive Days"????
ugh. learn to proofread, random GULC person who pals around with terrorists.
What's the difference between Sarah Palin's mouth and her vagina? Only one retarded thing has come out of her vagina.
19/28:
Yes, calling the Founding Fathers terrorists who are "disgusting" does make you hate the country that they built.
Really.

Yeah, Bill Ayers Dedicated His 1974 Book to RFK's Assassin Sirhan Sirhan, he is one person with a sick mind.

# 19: "Ayers tried to set off bombs in front of empty government buildings at night, after issuing specific warnings to avoid any loss of life."
That's not even half of it. Ayers' group firebombed a judge's house while the whole family was asleep, and the bomb that went off prematurely destroying the bombmakers Greenwich Village townhouse and some of Ayers' comrades was intended for an officer's club dance at Fort Dix. These were not symbolic acts but rather attempted murder.

34 / 23 - Please show me where I called the founding fathers "disgusting"? I merely pointed out that some of the founding fathers committed acts which, if done presently, would be labeled "domestic terrorism." That doesn't mean I hate the country they built; I applaud their actions. Moron.

Ayers is nothing compared to the lives taken by Nixon, McNamara, Kissinger...
Conservatives are the real domestic terrorists?
Interviewer: Would you consider abortion clinic bombers domestic terrorists?
Palin: I don't know.
where's the post from the guy who always says something like: "guys in my high school used to....."
Bill Ayers should have went to law school in the 70's instead of terrorizing. Then he could be as prestigious and patriotic and you all.
Dorks. When you people gona learn that your "Country" doesn't give a shit about you? This life is lived by individuals whose ultimate concern is themselves. It's nature, it's fine, and some it will have spillover effects to third parties.
Now, fuck off and stop worshipping your flag.
39 - I might be wrong, but I understand that Ayres wasn't involved in firebombing the judge's house, but rather that that was done by other members of his group. Guilt by association maybe, but I don't think he touched that act himself.
Really, Ellie? Quotes around terrorist? I suppose Bush is the "president" to you too. You are so blindly partisan that you are completely void of common sense. I bet Lat cries himself to sleep each night thinking about where this blog has gone.

Ellie is an idiot.
Dump Elie.
Saban-Jones '12!
Bush is not my president, just like Obama will not be my president. Why American keep electing morons to the highest office?
Democracy is dead!
Hey "Patriots" - the beauty of the U.S. of A. is that dissenters have the right to voice their support for the likes of Ayres.
35 - So you're into discrimination? People with mental disabilities deserve respect, just as people of color and different sexual orientations.
TTTerrorisTTT TTToo Freedom FighTTer!!!
Or vice versa. What evs. Patriotism can be expressed in dissent, and pathological pacifism need not be the only form of dissent.
Besides, shouldn't you right wing nuts love this guy? He's a man of violent action who doesn't pussy around using 'diplomacy' and words like BO surely will while coddling terrorists!
35 - So you're into discrimination? People with mental disabilities deserve respect, just as people of color and different sexual orientations do.
46... English, Motherfucker!!! Do you speak it?!?!?
Nugent/Sampris '12
48 - He not my "president"...never has been never will.

I agree with 46's first paragraph, but it goes down hill from there.
this blog sucks. really. really. sucks. Ayers is about as patriotic and innocent as mystttal is thin.
INTC warns, bloodbath tomorrow...Welcome to Obamanation!
50, i second that. 35 - WOW.
this is the best blog in weeks.
Elie for Sec. of State!
55 -- that may be true, but 12, 19, 21, and 42 are still enormous douche bags. I'd love to hear their opinion after a "freedom fighter" blow up the bus that they and their poor-ass families are taking to Wal-Mart for the weekend family outing.
I guess Elie would like to blow Obama so badly, it shows.
19- if you think the Pentagon is every empty, night or otherwise, you're an idiot.
Guys in my high school used to be pieces of left wing garbage who subsequently were elevated to positions of power within TTT state school educational institutions and given speaking engagements at GULC all the time. It was no big deal because they got AIDS from their homosexual brethren in CA, MA, and CT and died very painful deaths while we laughed at them.
Elie, you're not funny.
54: you can call obama a lot of things but he is certainly not a moron. anybody who's been through law school should recognize he's a pretty smart guy.
Guys in my high school used to engage in domestic terrorism all the time. It was a huge deal, and it disqualified their close friends from holding elected offices.
35: I dun get it
-Trig
Guys in my high school used to hate minorities, believe in God over science, try to oppress those who hold views different from their own, all while espousing fiscal responsibility while secretly bankrupting the student council treasury on cheetos and cola. It turned out that extortion, discrimination, voter fraud, illegal wars, and oppression of civil liberties was a VERY VERY VERY big F'n deal.
Stupid conservatives, freedoms for everybody, not just white property owning males.
11, 19, and 44: let's see what you have to say about that as right wing groups start pulling the same act over the next few years.
73 -- are you saying that because Obama went to law school that he is smart??????
Smart move nervous, way to shut down all the imitators.
Bingham lays off 776 associates.
You can't honestly debate about people like Ayers while they are still alive. Calm down and wait for some perspective until years from now. That's what historians are for, and you morons aren't historians. Don't forget, Hitler was Time's man of the year once in the 1930s. Stalin got it twice, I believe.
81 -- we can certainly state with certainty that Ayers was a terrorist. He doesnt need to be dead to know that. It doesnt matter what he does for the rest of his life, just like it wouldnt matter if bin Laden turned his life around.
44, quite convenient of you to leave out Kennedy and Johnson from that list. Actually, just a total dipshit move to set up a strawman...
35 for EIC
Well, since Palin doesn't know what "law school" is, I doubt she'll make a big deal about it.
A GULC marrying another GULC is an abomination to god! Yes on National Prop 8!
22 - Funny...but even funnier is that you think Bama will win their conference.
Wow, the level of idiocy on this blog is staggering.
21,
The Founding Fathers, unlike the vermin in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, did not get into boats, travel to England, and attempt to blow up innocent Englishmen. The Founding Fathers, unlike Bill Ayers, did not attempt to murder dissenters. On the contrary, they established the very right of the dissenters of their time - as well as future scum like you - to dissent. Your attempt to equate slaveholding with terrorism shows that you're either extremely ignorant, or, more likely, profoundly stupid. Slavery was a terrible institution. Unlike terrorists, however, we recognized the wrongs that had been done and took great efforts to ammend them - not only by amending our Constitution, but by sacrificing the lives of over 600,000 of our sons. So the question is: why don't you and the rest of your liberal, anti-American, socialist-democrat friends leave this country? It's clear that you hate it. At any rate, your day of reckoning is coming. That's all I have to say. It's coming.
Here's a cause we can all agree upon. Elie's acts of terrorism against the English language must be stopped.
This is what happens when you let Texans with AIDS practice law and marry each other.
So, are you saying that he didn't invent that weather website?
http://www.wunderground.com/
81 - The fact that the people you mentioned were "Time Men of the Year" means nothing about the way the world viewed them at the time. Time has been on record as saying that "for better or for worse" these are the people that have been the most influential throughout the year. Stalin and Hitler were absolutely some of the most influential people in their time, but it certainly was nothing positive and it was not an affirmation by Time of their views. Get a clue.
82--glad to see you are so "certain," you certainly love the word and variations on it. Can you please let me know where Bush ranks historically among presidents? Any other things you are certain about? Glad to know you are not afraid to judge and condemn others--I thought that was God's job, but you're doing a bang-up job of it too.
-81
These comments -- presumably written by highly-educated young professionals -- make me weep for the future of this nation.
Just when you thought fatboy was starting to clean up his act and do the job that he's being paid to do, he comes up with another politically motivated chocolate dipped and deep fried brain fart like this.
As if there were even a point to his post...
81/94 -- you rank as # 1 among the biggest douche bags. Too bad you could go to a law school or get a job at a firm ranked even remotely that high.
What does President Bush have to do with Ayers being a terrorist. You really are stupid, arent you?
-- 82
Elie Mystal is Ham of the Year. He will then eat himself.
91 - Quick question: Presumably, you're the guy/girl who keeps writing the comments concerning Texans having aids on every article; what's your beef with Texas? This is not a joke. I'm genuinely interested to see if you can articulate a reason for being so hostile towards that state. Since I think that admitting the real reason for your hostility would probably be embarassing to you, I doubt you're going to. I have a few theories about why, but I won't get into them. Suffice it to say that whatever your response is, you'll probably prove that I'm right.
-Texan that is more attractive, more intelligent, has more money, and is less sexually frustrated than you.
I can't wait to blithely call all those who protest the policies of the coming administration "un-American" and "unpatriotic" for not supporting the chief and our troops under his command. And I'm really looking forward to the next funding bill that sets a time line for withdrawal, which Republicans will vote against, "cutting off funding for our troops." It's going to be epic fun.
89,
The Founding Father, unlike the US military in 2003, did not get into boats, travel to the Middle East, and attempt to blow up innocent Afghanis/Iraqis. The Founding Father, unlike the Army, did not try to murder people defending their country (oh, wait, they did. Tories, anyone?)
Doesn't sound as good now, does it?
And for the record, I believe the Founding Fathers would have approved the amendments to the Constitution, but would similarly abhor the things the US does these days.
94 -- you are obviously a law student because anyone with any real world experience wouldnt say such dumb things. Have fun while it lasts and good luck on your exams!

Something has been lost in this thread: what Ayers did in 60s has nothing to do with Obama. If you honestly, believe that this University of Illinois professor has some magical sway over Obama you have swallowed the very cheap Kool-Aid of the snow billy barbie.
McCarter and English just laid off 40 associates.
89,
Boy, you sure are stupid.
Slaveholding in that sentece was an adjective. An adjective modifying terrorist. As in a terrorist that holds slaves. That's describing the terrorist, not eqating slaveholding with terrorism. Whatever military academy you couldn't get into might have at least taught you grammar, dummy.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, none of the Founders amended the Constitution or took up arms in the Civil War. So how do you get from a comment about the Founders to the Civil War to our country today? You know that the Founders aren't still alive, don't you?
And you do realize that it's you - the people who view themselves as the "real Americans" - that are the fringe of this country. There was just an election. You might note that sentiment was soundly rejected.
Finally, as for your "day of reckoning" - judging by your stupidity, I'm guessing that you mean that when President Obama raises my taxes and I'm paying for your uneducated ass defaulting on your student loan because you're working at Denny's? That day of reckoning? You're right, it's coming!
The terrorists hate us because we're free.
-15
12 -- No, but they would have been had the Brits won ...
111 -
Amen. The Constitution is only "The Constitution" because they one.
Had they lost, it would have been State Exhibit #1.
And 89, you f-ing clown, just because you can dispassionately analyze history doesn't make you more or less partiotic. Despite what Sarah Palin tells you, a lack of intellectual ability is not coequal with patriotism.
"a lack of intellectual ability is not coequal with patriotism."
but if it were, you'd be as patriotic as besty fucking ross.
read a book. then learn the difference between "one" and "won."
Thanks 93, you saved me the trouble.
91--You are embarrassing yourself and all of your other fellow GULCers more than usual.
111 and 112--
"Why doth treason never prosper?
Because if it prospers, you dare not call it treason."

Why does Texas have AIDS? How is it even remotely possible that an entire state has AIDS? Comments like this are absurd. Law school students and lawyers alike should obviously realize this.
Texas has aids???!?!? When did this happen?
I would normally be outraged by this but law school has me too depressed to care.
-GULC 1L
112 - "because they one." Really? Are you seriously a law student? Or worse, a lawyer?
The bottom line is - despite what any of you apologist, liberal sheep may believe - Bill Ayers is a piece of shit that should be in a cell fifteen feet below the ground in a federal prison no one knows the name of. Putting his politics aside - he is an animal that behaved just as badly as any member of the KKK, Hamas or Hezbollah.
I live in DC, and if this thing is not reserved for students, I will definitely appear to let him (and GULC) know that his murderous deeds are not forgotten. That it's not about his politics, but about his disregard for anyone but himself and his beliefs. It would be great if a bunch of like-minded persons showed up to interupt his presentation -- just not let him speak. It happens all the time with any non-"progressive" speaker. There were countless times where I've gone to see speakers on subjects like affirmative action (completely ruined by the radical "BAMN" group), immigration (the "social justice" people stopped that one), free trade (the anarchists teamed up with the "workers' rights" people to ruin that one). Interestingly, on the other hand, I've also seen plenty of left-wing nutcases and never have I seen those talks broken up by the "radical right wing."
because the left is just correct...
120 - I'm a liberal, and I have to admit you make a good point. I've been to a number of speakers on a wide variety of topics, and it seems the only ones that are ever disrupted from the inside (as opposed to simply picketted and protested outside) are conservative speakers. Young neo-liberals need to learn some political manners. Grab a bullhorn, stay outside, and have at it. But don't come inside and act a fool (or you deserve to get tazed, bro); pipe down and listen- you may actually learn something. Worst that can happen is that you gain some fodder for your dissenting opinion, which you should deliver at its appropriate time and place.
Guys at my high school used to talk all the time about what DB Ayers is, it was no big deal.
ask him if he had anything at all to do with "Dreams of My Father"
109,
I will address your outrageously stupid arguments one at a time:
(1) To conclude that slaveholding in that sentence was an adjective that only modified – but did not equate – the noun terrorist with slaveholding, there would have to be evidence indicating how the writer believed that the Founders were terrorists separate and apart from their status as slaveholders. But, of course, nothing of the sort appears in his post. This, coupled with the context in which the statement was made, i.e., a discussion of what constitutes a terrorist and whether Ayers qualifies as one, demonstrates what anyone with a fifth-grade education already knew – the writer meant to equate slaveholding with terrorism. You are an idiot.
(2) You’re right, none of the Founders amended the Constitution. They did, however, demonstrate an awareness of its limited life by providing that it could only be eliminated after 20 years. See Art. V. They realized that there would BE no Constitution if they insisted otherwise. All of this is beside the point though, because the real issue is whether the Founding Fathers were terrorists because they were slaveholders –as 21 suggested. I argue that they were not. He – and apparently you –take the unenviable position that they were.
(3) Your statement that the “Founding Father, [sic] unlike the Army, did not try to murder people defending their country” assumes that the terrorists in Iraq are defending their country. All I can say to this is that I genuinely hope you were not educated in the United States.
-89
"Look, if this Ayers guy is a nefarious presence that calls into question the patriotism of anybody who associates with him, then what does is say that the 14th best law school in the country has invited him to speak?"
It says GULC wants attention and invited Ayers because now he's "famous." One year ago, GULC would not have invited Ayers, and the topic description doesn't seem to indicate why this discussion is relevant to, or worthy of, a top law school. This is simply pandering for someone with current name recognition.
"Ahmadinejad basically caused the City of New York to grind to a halt...."
No, actually (or "basically"), he didn't.
P.S. By "none of the Founders amended the Constitution," I mean none of them amended via the Thirteenth Amendment. Suck it.
-89
Nixon was a pussy for not indicting Ayers, Dohm, Jane Fonda, and the like under the federal statute for treason. America was at WAR with Vietnam, and Vietnam's strategy was to encourage groups like Weather Underground to weaken domestic support for the war. Which they did, successfully, which is a big reason why America lost the Vietnam war. Nixon just lost all political capital as a result of Watergate.
Terrorist or Freedom Fighter? I don't know, but you're all missing the most important point: He's sporting one wicked 'stache in that pic, man!
i hate everyone who posts on here. i even hate myself for posting this response.
128 - Vietnam was not a war. It was a "police action."
After skimming through these comments, not only do I feel about 10 IQ points dumber for having read them, but a lot more pathetic and self-righteous, too.
"Does is say," eh? I do is say that you need to check your grammar. Passing score for relevance though.
I don't think Ahmadinejad's speech at Columbia was "refuse."
And let's remember: it was the U.S. who couped Iran's democratic government, not the other way around. It was the U.S. who continued to supply Iraq with chemical weapons even after we knew Iraq was using them against Iranians in the Iran-Iraq war. The US is in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (among many others) by abandoning any effort toward its own nuclear disarmament, but is threatening war against Iran (in violation of the UN Charter, if anyone is concerned about the law) eventhough Iran is in compliance with the NTP. It's understandable why Iran finds U.S. policies unfair.
Ayers = Arabs
Does 122 think that 120 is a liberal? Both of you sound very conservative. There's so many conservatives who think they're liberal.
I'd rather be at GULC pallin around with terrorists than at GW
136 - That's because conservatives ARE liberal, at least as that term was originally understood. Just as gays ruined a perfectly good word, so too did liberals.
"Look, if this Ayers guy is a nefarious presence that calls into question the patriotism of anybody who associates with him, then what does is say that the 14th best law school in the country has invited him to speak?"
It says that Georgetown should be ashamed of itself. And it also says volumes that you are so snarky about it.
GULC to TTT.
Oh, wait???
Good lord, George Bush has killed/injured/maimed/ignored more people than Ayres ever will. Stop being so bitter that some of us actually believe in free speech and objecting to a government gone wrong.
Was Ayres right to do what he did? Of course not. Do his crimes pale in comparison with those of our own government? A resounding YES.
GULC alum here. This is not a big deal; Ayers is just talking. Picket it or something if you want.
On an unrelated note, it is indeed true that GULC = TTT, but that's been true for a long time now.
89, oh my poor 89. You believe in god too, don't you? And the rapture? *sigh* When someone made up stories to try to get people to be nicer to each other they had no FREAKING idea what horrors their cute little parables would be responsible for.
The bible? It's FICTION.
God? Doesn't Exist.
Patriotism? Can exist even in the face of dissent.
Stop acting like we're raping your mother for questioning the actions OUR government is taking in OUR name.
Oh, and pick up a history book, it'll do you good.
*Goddam public school system in this country!*
GULC sneaked into SkaddenDC and now SKULCDC is well ......
Someone should put a dull, rusty blade in Mr. Ayers. In the eyeball, straight on through to the back, slowly. After cutting off his fingers and toes one joint at a time and salting the wounds before cauterizing them. Soon.
hey 125, the founding fathers did amend the constitution - the first 10 amendments, sometimes referred to as the bill of rights, were adopted in 1791. Maybe you've heard of them?
128 - Youre a frigging idiot. If you and your conservative ilk havent realized we were lied to about the Gulf of Tonkin incident and that the only state of war was in Nixons head, then you deserve to be shiupped off to Iraq, today, to look for WMD's. Please tell me youre not even a law student but an LSAT wannabe, because if you are a lawyer, your states bar messed up very fucking badly.
"the only state of war was in Nixons head" - wow, wow, wow you're an idiot. Whether the Vietnam war was right or wrong, whether we were lied to or not, it was WAR. American troops WERE DYING. It wasn't a fantasy in Nixon's head (I don't even understand why you bring Nixon into it because JFK started the war). It was a REAL WAR.
Going to North Vietnam, taking pictures with anti-aircraft guns and calling U.S. POWs liars for claiming they were tortured is TREASON. The only thing more treasonous than that is physically picking up a gun and shooting US soldiers in Vietnam (which Ayers tried to do in America by bombing the Pentagon). I'm a liberal, an actual real liberal, and there's a difference between advocating freedom of speech, etc... and outright treason.
Also, even though I am an opponent of the Iraq war, you're an idiot if you don't believe that Iraq didn't have WMDs. 90,000 Iranians died in the Iran-Iraq war because of chemical and biological attacks. You're the one being lied to by your anti-American friends
I guess under 139's reasoning, if you don't support a war America is fighting or if the President lies to you (which is sometimes necessary in war), you have carte blanche to commit any crime that you please (including working for the enemy and bombing American military institutions) and it wouldn't be treason. Glad I know where you stand.
148 - The French started the war. We sold Iraq WMD's and we knew they no longer had them as did the rest of world, hence our position in the world doghouse now.
Nixon escalated the war, JFK started.
Freedom of speech is one thing, lying to the American people so you can use nonexistent WMDs as a reason to pad your defense contractor friends and contributors pockets is treason.
Youre no liberal, youre another useless moderate with no real sense of history, much less the present.
Oh, come on, only one other person has commented on the new "addition" of his book?
I don't disagree with any of the facts you presented, but you don't respond to my main point: attacking your country when they are at war is treason. The United States has strict laws on this: if you aid or comfort an enemy during a war you are committing treason. If you think the US government is evil you can 1) renounce your citizenship 2) secede from the United States and then defeat the United States in war (the Supreme Court actually held that a state could legally secede as long as they defeated the U.S. in war in 1867). There is a clear line between protesting the war and helping our enemies. I don't think you understand that, which means you are anti-American and Marxist. Period.
I think you meant to say "you're no liberal, and by no liberal I mean you're not a flaming Marxist who thinks that the only way to battle what you think is a 'corrupt' government is through violence." Its nice to know that the new generation of liberals really respects our democracy.
146 - lol, you might want to look at 127
148 (and 152, I presume) - How did you stand up for your beliefs during Vietnam? Oh, that's right, I forgot, you're a law student. So I'll ask this question: what have you ever done to serve your country that gives you a right to be such an abusive jingoist? Have you served in the military? Joined the JAG Corps? Served in any national security position at all? I bet you haven't even paid taxes for more than a summer job or two. Anyway, I think most people who have really laid it on the line understand that what it means to be American isn't to shout down people who disagree with you with a torrent of childish name-calling and hyperbole.
It's fine to blow off steam on an anonymous online forum, but don't think for a second that this makes you patriotic or a good citizen. It just makes you an asshole.
154 to the gallows
what a f%cking numpty. Dear god you are retarded.
152- Or you can stay in your country and try to make it more humane.
And why can't one be a Marxist and American at the same time? We pay enough lip service to freedom and democracy, why isn't there room to debate different world views? Why should dissidents have to leave the country?
I'd rather not pile on Mystal, but come on. GULC is nowhere near Dupont Circle. At least think for one second before you post.
I'm sick of you. Good try; I wanted to tolerate you, but ATL is just not the same. Please find another job and let Mr. Celebrity-Pants Lat pick another editor.
Thank you.
154, you're such a goddamn idiot. I never said people shouldn't be able to dissent. I just said that ATTACKING America (with terrorist bombings) and helping our enemies with their propoganda efforts is TREASON. Why can't you accept that????? Are you going to expand the definition of free speech to allow attacking America?
Also, 156, you can't be Marxist and American at the same time. Because Marxism is against democracy, freedom of speech, etc... As an example, see Marx's own writings, China, Russia, Cambodia, Cuba, etc... Oh wait, I forgot, those don't "count" - that wasn't real Marxism. You neo-liberals are out of control.
GULC is about 2 miles from Dupont Circle (not "DuPont Circle").
By way of comparison, the Hoover Institution at Stanford would have to shut down if it was forbidden from having right-wing dictators and their flunkies from ever speaking or even entering its buildings.
158 - You made yourself look like an even bigger idiot. You have no concept of Marxism (do you even own a copy of Das Kapital), nor democracy.
I told myself I wouldn't argue with idiots anymore...read a copy of Das Kapital and compare to bailouts, airline loans, subsidized defense industry, no-bid contracts...America and Marx are hand in hand.
Why is "terrorist" in quotes?
Has history already been re-written? Was the Weather Underground a peaceful activist group slandered by some "vast right wing conspiracy"? Did I miss that memo?
Editor: Please grow some "balls." Those that are intellectually honest will appreciate it.

Ayers is definitely a stand-up guy:

And he definitely isn't a megalomaniacal psychopath :

Bravo on landing him, Georgetown!
160 - just because Marx said some things that were correct about free-market capitalism doesn't make attacking America when you don't agree with it (another part of Marxist philosophy) ok. I hate you stupid ideologues that fall in love with philosophers smarter than you and then take everything they say as the gospel even if it is horrifically wrong. Marx also said that imperialism and the destruction of India by Britain was a GOOD THING because it was a necessary step to the upcoming Marxist world revolution. Do you agree with that???
And your friend up there never answered my point about treason against his country.

And the winner for worst post goes to: (Drum-roll)
ELIE MYSTAL! (::APPLAUSE::)
When an article contains lines such as: "Anybody think this is a big deal?" and finishes with "Right?", I think we might all be a little dumber for having read it.
What is this, McCarthyism?
RIGHT?
I read this on my RSS reader and knew it was Mystal even without viewing the byline. What a fucking crock of a writer he is.
166: my reaction as well.
Phrasing his biases in a mock rhetorical way doesn't make them less aggravating.
I like how the post puts "terrorist" in quotes like a guy who set off bombs in political targets (and who probably committed at least a few murders) is being unfairly labeled.
