Exams! Results! Northeast Corridor!

Bar birds.JPGNew Jersey released results for the July 2008 bar exam. A tipster tells us that Massachusetts has done the same.

Congratulations to all who have earned the right to practice in this growing and lucrative depressingly anxious profession.

For those who missed the cut, just remember that it took JFK Jr. 3 tries before he passed the bar. And he was a pretty smart guy.

Yep. The results aren't posted online, but the exam takers have been notified by mail. No clue what the pass rate is this time around. Seemed like Virginia and New Jersey were pretty high this year.

"For those who missed the cut, just remember that it took JFK Jr. 3 tries before he passed the bar."

Yeah, but he nailed the Atlantic Ocean on the first try.

Um, JFK Jr. was a pretty smart guy? Handsome - yes. Well-connected - yes. "Pretty smart" so as to dull the sting of not passing - no.

Definitely judicial internship.

does this nervous 1L guy comment on every single posting to this blog?

I can't imagine what sort of uptight loser gets this stressed out about his future job prospects before he even finishes his first semester of law school!

I think he is actually referring to the Kennedy who is alive and is head of Riverkeepers and teaches at Pace (as the one who took 3 times to pass the bar). I believe he is an RFK, i.e. bobby kennedy jr, the son of also-shot RFK the first (Attorney general and presidential hopeful). NOT JFK jr, who crashed into the ocean.

It took Vincent Laguardia Gambini 6 times to pass the bar after graduating from Brooklyn Law and he won his first jury trial!

JFK Sr. was smarter post-headshot than JFK Jr. ever was.

15,

You fail reading comp. Elie refers to a Kennedy who "was" a pretty smart guy. Unless he is suggesting that RFK, Jr. was once smart but now is stupid, he probably means the late JFK, Jr.

Here's a (Massachusetts) story about how neurotic we lawyers are....

On Saturday I was so sure I failed that I got the envelope out of my mailbox, decided its bad news would ruin my appetite, made dinner, cracked open a beer, then another, watched a little trashy tv, and only then would I open it. So much for ripping it open the moment you get it.

Fortunately, it was good news after all.

avatar
45 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 3, 2008 4:49 PM

Ok, don't be a dbag and use imprimatur on a casual blogging site. If you find it necessary to flex the 730 SAT verbal score, please do it on your own time (ie: annoy your parents' friends at cocktail parties).

avatar
46 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 3, 2008 5:03 PM

To be clear -- JFK did not take the NJ bar exam three times. He took NY three times. In order to fail the NJ bar exam three times, you would have to be in a coma.

avatar
47 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 3, 2008 5:11 PM

For those who failed, don't worry. Teddy Kennedy and Hillary also failed the exam. For those of you who passed. Congratulations, and welcome to one of the world's most despised professions.

22 here:

27 clearly failed the Bar and is a cry baby (or could possibly be 21 and has a slightly quicker connection than I do and thinks I ripped him off)

As for 43:
By the Transitive Property of TTT, because Brooklyn Law = TTT and Brooklyn Academy of Law (if this even exists) = TTT, then Brooklyn Law equally as TTT as BAofL and therefore they are essentially the same thing.

NY to 190!

That would be 740 Verbal, thank you very much. Didn't matter, I defined mediocrity at a TTT school.

What the hell does this 2nd sentence mean? This is from the NJ Bar Exam site:

Listed below are the results from the July 2008 New Jersey Bar Examination. ****Of the 3141 candidates who sat for this examination, results have been mailed to candidates.**** Of the 3041 applicants, 2514 (82.6%) passed.

Also, is 82.6 pretty high or is that typical for NJ?

avatar
60 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 3, 2008 11:10 PM

59:

Only 3041 of the 3141 results are available. The missing 100 scores are due to people taking the test out of state and never transferring in their MBE score.

" For those who missed the cut, just remember that it took JFK Jr. 3 tries before he passed the bar. And he was a pretty smart guy."

Truth be told he was as dumb as a box of rocks. The manner in which he killed himself and a couple of others - by flying in what was called marginal visibility but in reality required required instrument competence (dusk and haze over water erased the horizon and flying visually he had no reference points - whether he was going up, down or sideways. He happens. You're warned against it from the first hour of flight training. He didn't get it. He was stupid, and while his own death had certain Darwinian implications those of this passengers didn't.
