Legal Eagle Wedding Watch 9.28-10.12: Elected!

LEWW is delighted to be back on duty after several weeks away. We won’t bore you with the reason for our absence, other than to say that we were engaged in an endeavor that–like many of the weddings we cover–ended in pain, bitterness, and finger-pointing.

But that’s all behind us now, and we’re excited to catch up on all the fall weddings we missed. Here’s the first set (more to come tomorrow):

1.

Sarah Hyman and Andrew Washkowitz

2. Lauren Sudeall and Michael Lucas

3. Anisha Dasgupta and Christopher Beauchamp

4. Jay Judas and Peter Dziedzic Jr.

1.

Sponsored

Sarah Hyman and Andrew Washkowitz

(Buy them a hollow-handled butter spreader.)

The Case:

– With three Harvard degrees, this couple launches us off to a strong start. The bride was magna at The Big H and has a JD from HLS; she begins work at Bain & Company this month. The groom graduated cum laude and is working toward a doctorate in biological sciences from Columbia.

– Sarah is a great-great-granddaughter of Julius Rosenwald, the former chairman of Sears, Roebuck & Company.

The Case Against:

– Sarah and Andy did not register at Sears, opting instead for $11,365 in Tiffany silver.

2.

Lauren Sudeall and Michael Lucas

(Buy them a gravy boat.)

The Case:

– Two JDs, two do-gooder jobs. The bride is Yale/HLS/Southern Center for Human Rights, and the groom is St. Edwards U./Berkeley/Georgia Legal Services Program

– Though outwardly normal-looking, Lauren is in fact a member of the exalted Elect, having clerked for Justice John Paul Stevens. She’s also a bleeding Reinhardt and a Soros Fellow.

The Case Against:

– Lauren is taking Michael’s last name, making her Lauren Lucas, which has two Ls and is therefore a stripper name, because saying it “makes you tap your tongue up and down in a licklike way.”

3. Anisha Dasgupta and Christopher Beauchamp

(Buy them a bread maker.)

The Case:

– Second Circuit superstar José Cabranes officiated at the wedding of these two Cambridge grads, who met there while studying for doctoral degrees in history.

– Anisha was magna at Yale and has a JD from YLS. She does appellate work in the civil division at the Department of Justice, where we assume she is not senior enough to be out of a job in a couple of months.

– Her cheekily dweebish groom is a fellow at Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School, where he studies the history of intellectual property.

The Case Against:

– The words “Her Majesty” in a wedding announcement are LEWW catnip, but unfortunately in this case it’s just British for “IRS” (Christopher’s dad works there).

4. Jay Judas and Peter Dziedzic Jr.

(Buy them a sheet set.)

The Case:

– This dapper duo’s Ritz-Carlton wedding was one of Boston’s signature fall events. And no wonder; these two ooze class from their well-exfoliated pores. LEWW has had the pleasure of sitting with Jay and Pete at a couple of weddings, and they are unquestionably two of the most impeccably dressed men we’ve ever encountered. They may be out of the proverbial closet, but we’d love a tour of their actual one!

– Jay, a VP at Sun Life Financial, graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and has a JD from Rutgers. Pete is Yale/UVA and an associate in the Boston office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. He also sits on the board of MassEquality.

The Case Against:

– Nothing! Love them!

The Verdict:

The d-Elect-able Lauren Lucas and her hubby get our vote this week. Congratulations!
