Morning Docket 11.21.08
* Mukasey is going to be okay. He’s telling jokes and talking to the President. A GW doctor said “”The attorney general is conscious, conversant and alert.” [CNN]
* Do you feel sorry for sex offenders? The California 4th district court does. They ruled that Jessica’s law, a law that prohibits sex offenders from living within 2,000 feel of a school or park constitutes “banishment under another name.” [San Francisco Chronicle]
* “A U.S.-triggered spate of global carmaker-bailout proposals may spark trade disputes over whether the Americans are unfairly trying to subsidize their industry or just making up for state aid foreign rivals already enjoy.”[Bloomberg]
* Meanwhile, the EU’s antittrust chief says the EU should resist an auto-industry bailout. [Bloomberg]
* On Thursday, a federal judge ordered the release of five Algerian prisoners from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. [Los Angeles Times]
* If you’ve been following Proposition 8, you may want to watch an upcoming gay marriage case that will be coming before the Iowa Supreme Court. [Iowa City Press Citizen]

First?
feel of a school? really?
thank the Lord
This gentleman is a GIANT of the LEGAL PROFESSION
we would literally be lost without his guidance and his strict observance of his oath to defend the Constitution!!!
God bless him
who cares? there are rumors of layoffs at paul weiss.
So, who's going to do layoffs today?
I really don't understand how you can't spend the 90 seconds to give it a quick final review before posting it. "feel of a school". Is this some intentional misguided attempt at upping traffic based on people showing up to see what you'll mess up this time?
Texas bar results to be released today.
BITCH SPREAD THE BUTT CHEEKS AND LET ME SMELL THE JUICY INSIDES!
Eliza Gray, who are you? Are you just Elie writing under a pseudonym to get a brief, but much-needed respite from fat jokes?
is anyone else creeped out that Eliza freudian slipped "feel" when talking about sex offenders and school children?
Antittrust? Is that supposed to be AntiTTTrust?
It was actually a justice department spokesman, not a GW doctor. But why should anyone on this blog be accurate and professional, right?
What's with the Heller and Thelen tags?
And while we're complaining about tags, what's with the 4th Circuit tag? Eliza, you can't seriously be confusing the 4th District California Court of Appeal with the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
#9 -- What is "What Lat said to Mystal during his interview?"
Suck it, Trebek!
1. "feel of a school"
2. antittrust
3. 4th Circuit
4. GW doctor
5. First article [CNN] isn't a link
6. Extra quotation mark in first story ""
7. district not capitalized
8. carmaker-bailout shouldn't hyphenated
9. "Americans are unfairly trying to subsidize their industry" their? The American's industry?
I'm sure there are plenty more, but for fuck's sake, how can you people possibly be this bad.
The posting on California Court of Appeals-4 is just inane. Feeling sorry for them has NOTHING to do with what the court decided. Prop. 83 discriminates, just like Prop. 8 discriminates. Just because they were both approved by a vote doesn't mean anything. Can we get Lat back here, please?
"Attorney General Mukasey was roughly twenty minutes into a speech defending the administration's torture policies and particularly arguing against prosecutions of people who made decisions in the aftermath of 9/11 (essentially arguing against what he believed amounted to the criminalization of policy differences)."
Is anyone crass enough to say the obvious; that is, that taking such an obviously indefensible position is bad for one's health. I guess I am. Another way to say this, a way imbued with the very right-wing christian beliefs held by those in attendance at last night's affair, "what goes around comes around."
C'mon Iowa, do the right thing! Hope the judges know that if you're against gay marriage, don't get one and shut the ^&*% up!
Good of you not to make one single mention of the fact that thousands of your readers are on the edge of their seats in re: CA Bar... absurd.
