The mature folks are out in force today. I guess I'll say first.

I'll also say that contra costa DA is one scumbagus extremus.

Elie, you totally ganked that Monopoly image from WSJ law blog.

Elie - You need to read more than the NYU press release to understand Epstein's situation. He's not leaving Chicago. He's taking Emeritus status and will continue to teach there part time. He has a condo in Chicago and will live there part of the year. He also will maintain his affiliation with the Hoover Institution at Stanford and be in residence there part of the year. NYU is essentially hiring him to teach a course (probably a seminar) once a year and giving him one of its apartments while he's in the City. Epstein's kids live in New York and that's another part of the attraction of this move. NYU must be really insecure to hype this arrangement. It's a standard move for anyone of Epstein's status, although people go to San Diego more commonly than New York when they retire. Go to the Chicago Law School announcement for the rest of the story. I can put up with your bad writing. I assume English is not your first language. But there's no excuse for screwing up the stories.

Evolution Day? You really are determined to push your radical securalism and liberal agenda on this site, aren't you? Shame!

avatar
17 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:02 AM

Yeah, Sunstein said that he would still teach a class at Chicago each Winter after he left too. Look how that turned out.

avatar
18 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:03 AM

Epstein has been at NYU since Fall 2007. He has taught torts and contracts since then, and maybe something else but I don't know.

avatar
19 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:10 AM

Epstein doesn't teach seminars at NYU; he teaches either torts/contracts to the 1Ls.

Chicago to T190!

avatar
21 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:12 AM

Epstein has been splitting at UChicago and NYU for a while now. He's retiring, dipshit.

avatar
22 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:15 AM

13 has it right. Epstein has been splitting time between Chicago, NYU and Hoover for a couple years now. There is absolutely no difference in day-to-day practice. The only difference is that NYU is giving Epstein the use of a $4 million condo in NYU in exchange for changing his title from UC Professor visiting at NYU to NYU Professor visiting at Chicago. Basically, NYU is paying for a press release and the right to his citations.

avatar
23 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:19 AM

Rumor has it that the University of Chicago medical center can no longer treat Epstein's nervous ticks, so his doctors have prescribed a combination of pleasant weather (Stanford) and vapidity (NYU) for at least a few months a year.

24 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:20 AM

Still sucks for Chicago. The faculty was the main thing it had going for it, and that has steadily deteriorated.

Great scoop on Epstein, ATL!!! Oh, wait, not really at all:
"I am most grateful to have this opportunity after retirement to continue my close association with the University of Chicago Law School, which for the past 37 years has been the love of my professional life. I hope to remain part of the University of Chicago community and in my new role at NYU Law School to bring two great institutions closer together."

avatar
28 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:28 AM

Wow, great news. Epstein is going to the festering shit-hole that is (shortly to become) NYC when another 100,000 financial sector workers get laid off before Xmas.

avatar
38 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 10:53 AM

Wow - a lot of sour grapes about Epstein's move/change of status/press release/nothing happened to NYU. I've read what UC said, what Epstein said to UC (which of course is going to be positive), and I still think Elie's post is about accurate for a short quip. Obviously there are more details than fit into a sentence or two. FYI, I have no interest or affiliation with either school, so I don't really care which is better.

Does Epstein still teach his entire torts class through that god awful "Thorns" case? I can still hear him screeching about it in my nightmares -- "dampnum absque injuria!"

avatar
44 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, November 24, 2008 12:38 PM

Epstein certainly still mentions Thorns. He's a great guy, and a great professor. It's a huge blow to UofC.

are you serious? Freddie Mac, Lehman Brothers, Wachovia AND WaMu?
How is it possible a firm with only 13 attorneys managed to have 4 major financial services clients who disappeared, and the firm is still alive?

Are you sure you guys didn't also have IndyMac Bank, Downey Savings and PFF Bank & Trust as clients, as well? How about Bear Stearns? No?
