Associate Life Survey: Lawyer of the Year

ATL 2008 in review.jpgIn Monday’s ATL / Lateral Link survey, we asked you to cast your vote for the 2008 ATL Lawyer of the Year.

More than three thousand ballots were cast, but there can be only one Lawyer of the Year.

Starting at the bottom, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich may not have hit the very lowest point in Chicago political history, but he did manage to get the lowest tally in our vote, with only 96 supporters.

Harvard Law Avenger Phil Telfeyan was a close second-to-last in your esteem, with a mere 110 votes.

funny-pictures-princess-cat-is-finally-being-recognized.jpgJudge Halverson rounded out the bottom three at 167 votes.

That makes THREE! THREE! THREE candidates who did worse than Count Layoffula! HA! HA! HA! (He received a total of 233 votes.)

Listen dude, you really want the Spitzer? Apparently not. The prosecutor-turned-commentator came up only average in our slate of nominees, with 288 votes.

Nervous T-10 1L may not have found a job this year, but he touched the hearts of 428 voters, landing him in the Final Four.

Marc Dreier — if that’s his real name — swindled up 485 ballots, more votes than disgraced governors Eliot Spitzer and Rod Blagojevich combined. Way to rock the scandal vote, sir. You’re the Second Runner-Up for the 2008 ATL Lawyer of the Year.

That leaves us with the final two. Will last year’s runner-up, President-elect Barack Obama, finally be Number That One? Or will The Anonymous Laid-Off Big Firm Attorney finally get something to soothe his pain? (Elie won’t share his pot.)

Find out who will be crowned the 2008 ATL Lawyer of the Year, after the jump.

funny-pictures-one-cat-wants-a-hug-but-the-other-says-no.jpgOur hearts go out to The Anonymous Laid-Off Big Firm Attorney. With 511 votes, you were this close to winning. In fact, if Nervous T-10 1L and Count Layoffula hadn’t split your we’re-so-screwed vote, you totally would have won.

But you didn’t.

Congratulations to the 2008 ATL Lawyer of the Year, President-Elect Barack Obama!

They said this day would never come. But with 753 votes, last year’s runner-up’s message of hope clearly overcame the divisive politics of scandal and despair.

Here’s hoping that our new Lawyer of the Year can find a place in his administration for even his fiercest rivals, The Anonymous Laid-Off Big Firm Attorney and the former rival Loyola 2L. Because otherwise they might have a tough time finding work.

Either way, I suspect The Anonymous Laid-Off Big Firm Attorney might be back for the win in 2009. (Seriously, it’s getting bitter out there. Skip the guns and religion and just cling to your jobs.)

In the meantime, the Commenter of the Year poll is almost upon us. Will Nervous T-10 1L be back to drive a stake through Count Layoffula’s support? Will Jack Bauer make it past Day 1? Will it be a conspicuous event if Fraternity Lothario beats Glass —

I’m just going to end that sentence early.

Stay tuned to see which commenters made the cut.

nonsense. you fail. I am now going to wright Mr. Riches a letter. You will eat 10 pro se lawsuits a day. At least then there will be something interesting to read on this stupid site. "Oh boy, we voted for Obama, just like everyone else in the world." Why dont you just steel everything Time magazine does and stick it on the pages of your worthless, thoughtless, humorless blog. You are the reason that BigLaw lawyers are seen as weird social rejects who are incapable of maintaining a fulfilling life. I hope a partner donkey punches you, causing you to fall face first into your egg nog and drown.

Jonathan Lee Riches- Lawyer of the year.

12, you should take your new secretary, bend her over a chair, and ram your "Christmas Present" right up her quivering anus.

Merry Xmas!

This was obviously rigged.

Yeah, setting up every constituency to split except Barry O's was b.s.

The upside here is that Glass Cock had a great Christmas poem today, so I think he might take the commenter title. He has my vote.

Glascock, be sure to repost your masterpiece again when the voting board goes up for commenter of the year.

Why wasn't JEREMY PITCOCK nominated? He's the OBVIOUS winner for ATL Lawyer of the Year. Did NO ONE read his complaint and the complaint filed by his firm with the allegations of his ridiculous conduct? That was all in 2008.

Oh ye of little memory.

I nominate Lawyer of the year to be Bob Dell, Chairman of L&W. He moved swiftly and decisively to protect partners' profits in the face of unprecedented economic conditions. He even had the balls to raise billing rates at the same time. Congrats Bob!!

Bob Dell should've laid off underperforming midlevels and seniors. Then stubs and 1st yrs might actually get work.

Ellie & David,

You should do some investigation on which firms are freezing salaries, but still RAISING hourly rates. If I were the client, I'd be F-ing pissed. Why should I have to pay more when the expense of an associate should theoretically be the same as last year?

List of Shame! Do it, do it.

avatar
32 Posted by guest | Permalink Thursday, December 25, 2008 2:18 PM

I like the list 27, keep it up. Munger Tolles & Olson announced bonuses yesterday - all over the map as usual (mostly hours based), but appears to be structured around Cravath. A small few did much better, even better than Skadden, some did worse than Cravath. No pay freeze.

I gotta third the sock of the Pitcock-less ballot. The ballot was a joke without Jeremy Pitcock. He was the OBVIOUS ATL Lawyer of the Year 2008. Way to drop the ball Lat.
