It is always tough to see such bad things happen to such good people. HA
I DON'T CARE!
This is a topic I really could not care less about.
5 - That's how I feel about bonuses (since I'm no longer at a firm).
Amazing story. Keep the updates coming.
But one of my interviews was at Dreier!

Agreed with #4,
Who frigging cares about this story?
...and the SEC!

at what point does what he did become worth it? would you spend the last 10-20 years of your life in jail if the 10 before that was spent living like a billionaire?
non of these will stick. The man is Teflon. Teflon!
Who is else is thinking this rich white man was the REAL sports memorabilia thief?
Bush should be indicted in SDNY for his failed impersonation of Reagan.

When did Paulie Walnuts have time to start his own firm? That Paulie Walnuts is so crazy. What will he do next?
HA HA! Your Mom's a Jailbird.
F***ing hilarious!!!
Why no lame headline such as "Left out to Dreie" or "Still Higher and Dreier?"
Anybody seen the complaint yet?
4, 5 and 9, don't you have to masturbate before Torts class? Chop, chop.
This site is missing the good stuff. Here is the link to the press release of the SEC's civil complaint:

Apparently Dreier cracked without having to rendition him back to Toronto.
Welcome back David, can we expect to see more of you going forward? It may not be too late to save this site if you care.
Pfft. Whatever, 23. Beat you to it.

This guy didn't have any immigration or white collar people he could have talked to?
If the SEC is telling the truth, he was already up over $100 mil in bogus cash. Shouldn't he have been halfway to by now instead of in Canada?
dreier, dreier, dreier, i made it out of clay.....
18 - well so's yours

oh my
Seriously, this guy must have thought he was freakin invincible. Creates his own firm which was actually picking up steam (in a good economy), and had the balls to be the ONLY equity partner! Then once he gets greedy refusing to use his own $$ to help bail out his firm he decides to go on a law-breaking spree? What can Shargel possibly do for him? Insanity due to high-stress environment?

full story at WSJ.com. The details seem like they came out of a movie. He waited in the Ontario Teacher's Assoc. offices, then intercepted an executive, took him into a conference room and pretended to be a lawyer for the Teachers's Assoc. in their very own offices.
This Canadian gambit apparently wasn't the first time he tried this. There were two other hedge funds he tried this on and apparently pulled the same "use someone else's office" stunt with a developer and an accounting firm. Apparently, he had others involved on this deal - wonder who they were?
this firm put the t in ttt. too bad they did not have party at the waldorf before drier crapped out. more lat gossip please.

Wachovia's also filed suit in the SDNY against Dreier & the firm for $12.6M for breach of a revolving credit agreememt and non-payment of notes due.
4 and 9.....
I am not an atty and this story interests me a great deal. One would think, it you didnt care about it, you would:
1) not click on it and read it , or
2) not take the time to write that you dont care.
thank you ATL for taking the time to keep us lurkers in the loop of a fascinating story

It's a pretty sad world when Dreier employees are checking the blogs to find out about their employment... please keep us updated.
Now that this thief has been exposed....does anybody know why/how this happened? Was it because he got economy-pwned? Some are saying the firm hit financial troubles well before summer?
Well even though there were no formal firm announcements yet....if I were a Dreier employee, I would certainly be polishing up that resume and look for good recruiter listings.
-I feel bad because there won't be much to separate these guys from all those who are now victims of this layoff spree.

he should have stayed in Canada ... free health care etc., rule of law etc.
dreier dreir pants on fire
dreier's been removed from the firm website?. hmm...why hasn't mysTTTal announced this layoff yet? what's the severance? was it performance related or just the economy? can this be considered a stealth layoff?
WTF!!!!
I wonder who his confederates were? Lawyers/employees of his law firm? Has anyone else been arrested yet?
I see that the liar R A is back on the firm website.
What is the actual situation over at 499 Park? If you have to be in court on a matter, do you have the staff to get the research done, to draft the briefs?
I read that the Feds are looking through every briefcase leaving? Have individuals been questioned? What's the screen for attorney-client privilege and the Fed investigation?
Are clients calling and pulling matters?
Does Dreier's recent trip to Dubai have anything to do with the unaccounted $100 million? The trip was kept quiet around the firm.
Yale sucks... U Penn State History Majors rule! LPE for life!
WHOA IS HE!
