O.J. Gets 15 Years

OJ jailed.jpgO.J. Simpson is going to jail, finally:

OJ Simpson, who walked away a free man after one of America’s most sensational murder trials, was today sentenced to 15 years in prison for a botched attempt to recover sports memorabilia.

The sentence was handed down today by Judge Jackie Glass. The judge largely ignored Simpson’s pleas for leniency, which in and of themselves were hilarious:

“I just wanted my personal things. I was stupid. I’m sorry. I didn’t know I was doing anything illegal. I thought I was confronting friends. I thought I was retrieving my things. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody and I didn’t mean to steal anything,” Simpson said.

As a general rule, when I’m confronting “friends” I leave my glock back at the safe house. But maybe O.J. confused real life with Grand Theft Auto IV.

But the best line was the way O.J. began his address to the court:

“I stand here today sorry, somewhat confused. I feel apologetic to people of state of Nevada,” Simpson began.

Fashionista editor Britt Aboutaleb opined: “he’s probably thinking to himself how did i get away with murder and now I’m going to jail for something retarded”

No doubt.

i watched the sentencing during my lunch break. i thought the judge hit the nail on the head when she said that she noticed how he acted at the beginning of the trial, which pretty much discounted any show of emotion during the sentencing phase.

Message to clients, "always look sad."

8, he'll get some special treatment in prison for sure. But "like a king" doesn't quite describe it.

See?

avatar
12 Posted by guest | Permalink Friday, December 5, 2008 1:50 PM

10, he will get a private cell and anything that he wants from the guards for signing a few autographs. He might not be treated "like a king" but it will come pretty close. Prison is going to be pretty easy for him.

18 - the guards will treat him pretty well. Guards have an amazing amount of leeway in the treatment of prisoners and OJ is not only famous but he is one charismatic fucker. People who know him like him, that is why it was so hard finding negative character witnesses. If you can get the guards to like you, and you're famous enough to warrant administrative segregation (the good kind) then prison isn't all that hard. It isn't like he had a lot to look forward to on the outside anymore anyway.

It's pretty sloppy that the AmLaw article and the LegalWeek article that it references don't point out that, while Skadden did not give the special bonus given last year, it is still giving the regular bonus, which is twice what these other firms are offering. Crappy legal journalists are the worst.

On the killings of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, I read an article a couple of years ago that concluded that, in fact, OJ didn't do them but did cover them up. The article noted that OJ's son Jason believed that he had a romantic thing with Nicole, and that he was at her house waiting for her when Nicole and Ron returned. The article stated that Jason is something of a hothead, and suspected that he picked a fight with them and things got out of control with the resulting killings. The article asserted that OJ discovered what Jason had done and tried to cover everyting up before he left for Chicago. The article concludes that it's why the glove didn't fit, but the DNA matched. Not sure about the accuracy of the article, but interesting. Plus I read the same theory on the Internet so it must be true.

OJ won't be treated like a king in prison. Will he be treated better than other prisoners? Sure. He'll be treated better than just about any other prisoner is.

But so what? Being treated as the best prisoner is kind of like being treated as the best female porn star. Even you don't end up with some guy twice your size nailing you in the a**, it's still a horribly degrading way to live that's going to take years off your life.
