Bristow Fellowships Announced Today
Students who received a prestigious Bristow Fellowship with the Solicitor General’s Office will be informed today.
The Office of the Solicitor General confirmed with us this morning that the decisions have been made and successful applicants will be told today. If you applied, you might want to keep your phone lines open.
But if you are a student from Yale Law School, this year might not be your year. An inside source tells us that no student from Yale received a fellowship this year.
That’s rough. Students from Yale Law are getting shut down before Harvard Law Dean Elena Kagan even takes over. But we shouldn’t expect Kagan to be unduly influenced by Harvard-Yale competition in her new role. Talent always rises.
Let us know which schools did well in securing a fellowship this year in the comments.

I am guessing that NYU despite all the Obama-love is shut out as well.
KICK ME IN THE KIDNEY!
Tim Tebow received a fellowship.
GW is #1 in Bristow's this year. #2 is Regent.
Bristow has turned TTT.
YES Creighton wins again!!!!
Whatever happened to ATL breaking/announcing this sort of stuff?
CleMarsh 2L here. Nobody even told us about this fellowship program. What is it, how much does it pay, when were we supposed to apply? Can I do it next year?

10, no you can't, you suck, go away.
"Talent always rises."
Yeah? How the fuck would you know, Elie?

10 - are you fucking kidding me? How do you not know about the Bristow Fellowship? Look here: http://www.usdoj.gov/osg/opportunities/bristapp.html. That gives you pretty much all the info you need. Basically you need an awesome academic record and some clerkship experience (usually Federal Appellate).
13 - give 10 a break, he goes to CleMarsh.
10 - you could try to apply next year but you should probably go for a federal clerkship and then apply for the Bristow Fellowship.
Q: How do you know a Hamas apologist is lying?
A: He's trying to tell you something.
15, I want to stab you in the throat. Stop it with that stupid fucking post, over and over and over. Also read the second article the pope did not call Gaza a concentration camp, a Cardinal did, you are the lowest type of scum on the planet and I hope aweful things happen to you.
16- I don't know about it because our OCS never sent an e-mail about it. Sheesh.
17- thanks for the up. I did check out the web site, it looks rad. I need to do a Federal clerkship first? Do you think a majistrate judge would count?
Ok everyone here is how we solve this. No one engage 15 in any sort of way. Do not talk about Hamas, Gaza, Israel, Jews or anything like that. Lets just end this before it starts. 15 is an asshat. Just ignore him and he will go away, all he wants is to get a rise out of everyone. Don't give him the satisfaction. Please, I am begging you, drop it.
What if you work for the government as a law clerk (above pay scale grade 12)? Can you still apply for this fellowship?
Ellie is very buoyant, 14.
Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit?
@CleMarsh I don't think you could get a clerkship with a nightcourt judge.
who cares about the bristow? yalies probably don't even apply
I'm six years out of law school and I've never heard of this fellowship (and I had an "awesome academic record," as one former DB poster put it). It's not because I'm an idiot or had my head in the sand; it's because I couldn't have cared less about sh*t like this, didn't surf the DOJ website in my spare time, and really wasn't all that psyched about the scholarly aspect of law, so I had no reason to care. (When you graduate with $120K in loans, you tend to have tunnel vision set on doing one thing: making as much money as possible in order to pay them off. Mission accomplished, BTW.)
20 - I'm not sure I didn't really look into it to hard because I just assumed I didn't have to grades for it. I'm a 3L with a federal appellate clerkship and a firm job waiting for me after that (hopefully still there when I finish), so I stopped looking at Bristow a while ago. Sorry I can't be of more help.

15 is a self-hating douchewad who cannot deal with his own conflicted sexuality and feelings of inferiority in the eyes of his father and lashes out against others as a result. it's sad and pathetic.
Are there layoffs going on at Cahill?
30, wait for it... yes.
Georgetown has 4 fellows
HERE COME THE SHEEP!
If you're being serious CleMarsh, no, a magistrate judge probably wouldn't do the trick. You need a federal appellate clerkship, and probably need to graduate #1-5 in your class to have a realistic shot. No harm in applying though.
27, there is no excuse for ignorance. I have a shit-ton of loans pilling up but I'm still taking my clerkship and a firm job will be there to steal my soul after that.

Could. Not. Care. Less.
25-
Not true, when I interviewed at Benesh and McD-Hops, they told me to try to clerk for a majistrate judge
30 - everything's kosher. no layoffs, no freeze, market bonuses, and a couple of new partners.
bah
#36 to 190!

23, Nailed IT!
Should be -- Elie is Buoyant like a Chocolate Covered Buoy!
Bethlehem Steel to layoff large % of employees.
Complete joke. Instead of going for talent, we have nothing to do but worry over what law school the dorks went to. Who cares? Law sch should not matter
GAZA, OPEN UP YOUR BUTT CHEEKS SO THE ISRAELIS CAN NAIL THE JUICY CWT '05 SHEEP INSIDE!
There, I've said it all. Time to move on people to something more substantive.
Law School is a hell of a drug.
Coke on A Friday.
ATL, a week behind the times. The recipients found out last week, not today. And if Michigan got one, I know another state school that took another . . . tough year for your HLS/YLS/SLS douchers.

I should not have mixed Colon Blow into my coffee instead of creamer this morning. My cubicle is about to look worse than the Gaza Strip Mall.
45 is pissed because the moderator removed his comment at 15. Does Elie do the moderating?
52--what is the other state school? I love it when us state schoolers take it to the rich private school kids...
Something tells me that the moderator lives in the basement of a house on Long Island, feeds on kidneys, and wears a gimp outfit.

COLON BLOW! -- FOR WHAT AILS YA!!!
I would like to blow my colon all over female CWT '05's chest.
Moderater- please remove the anti-semitic crap / it's not even the funny law-related stuff
(former XOXOers- 10:1 odds it's JBD spamming ATL with this crap)
On point:
Is there any link to show historical totals of Bristow fellows broken down by law school? I think that, beyond SCOTUS clerkships, it's the most prestigious post-grad honor available, correct?
23- thank you for the lulz
So no one besides 51/52 knows who got these fellowships?
one is from TX Law
Go Blue!
Who's the Texan?
will i at least get a rejection letter?
will i at least get a rejection letter?
no layoffs at Cahill. They just named two new partners (where was the ATL coverage?)
66 is lying. There will be massive layoffs at Cahill. Just wait. They are playing it very close to the vest.
Will the Bristow Fellowship program be accepting people who were laid off from Cahill?
This post is crappy. If no one is going to provide any info, what's the point?
Clerkship Notification Blog says:
NYU/Kozinski
Georgetown/Tatel
Michigan/Gorsuch
Texas/Randolph
Glad my COA clerkship has turned into a dead end.
maybe thats because all the best YLS candidates are taking all going to clerk for SCOTUS.

Wild guess: FedSoc hacks?
at least one of them is quite liberal, so no
at least one of them is quite liberal, so no
Interesting trend among this year's recipients (acc. to comment 70): prestigious judge, not prestigious school. Reinforcing once again the dirty little secret that Bristows are the consolation prize for not being quite good enough to get a Supreme Court clerkship. On occasion, one of each year's four gets a SCt clerkship, but Bristows are usually the dumping ground for SCt rejects.
Addendum to comment 76: how lame is it to be the one Kozinski clerk who doesn't get a SCt clerkship?
not a bad dumping ground 76. . . i'd take it
Well, one Kozinski clerk from last year is a Bristow now and is clerking for Kennedy next term. So I'd say it's far from lame to go from Kozinski to the SG's office.
i agree with 79 - kozinski, SG, SCOTUS - it doesn't get much better than that
Yep, 76 is right. Bristow Fellows are real rejects. Jeff Lamken, Sri Srinivasan, Ken Bamberger, Trevor Morrison, Toby Heytens, Maggie Lemos, Neil Siegel, Lori Alvino -- all people that no one on this board would ever want to emulate.
81 - Who?
all hail matt owen from michigan
74: OK, so they picked one "liberal" -- i.e., "someone who earned the position by demonstrating supreme qualifications and not just political loyalty." Given DOJ's recent track record on student hirings and the timing of the picks (hmmm, just before the SG changes hands and parties?), I think it's pretty clear what's going on.
76--How can the Bristow be a "dumping ground" when they've been awarded before a good number of the scotus clerks have been hired? Is a clerk for a big feeder like Kozinski really likely to turn down the Bristow in the hope of getting a scotus clerkship?
