Death Row Inmate Wants to be on Florida Supreme Court

Mike Lambrix Supreme Court candidate.jpgOne thing that has become clear to me since I started at ATL is that people in prison have a lot of time on their hands. A lot of time. We regularly receive handwritten letters from pro se litigants complaining that the judge who sent them to prison is “above the law.”

Michael Lambrix has been held on death row for over 25 years. Now, he wants to serve on the Florida Supreme Court. “Mike” describes himself on his website (doinglifeondeathrow.com) like this:

Born and raised in Marin County, CA I have now been held hostage on Florida’s death row over 25 years….

My spiritual faith and a healthy (if not a bit twisted) sense of humor have been my strength while the hope of spending time with my 3 children and grandson is my goal….

By nature I am easy going, hard to anger, and quick to forgive - even to a fault. Although spiritual by nature, I’ve grown disgusted by organized religion. For the same reasons I’m disgusted by organized politics — both have become institutions corrupted by man’s arrogance and greed.

Who better to deal with man’s arrogance and greed than a humble convicted felon? It makes sense to Mike. In his application to fill a vacancy on Florida’s highest court, Mike makes his best (handwritten) case:

I would now request that I be considered for nomination and in all fairness I would ask that you do not so quickly discount my genuine desire to become a Justice on the Florida Supreme Court. As a longtime (albeit involuntary!) citizen of the state of Florida I believe I am entitled to due consideration, and the following facts show that I am uniquely qualified to be a Justice on the court.

As for that pesky capital offense?

Of course, I do understand… there would be a predictable measure of reservation to my appointment, but to hell with the public. It’s the governor’s providence to appoint anyone he so chooses, and if the narrow minded public doesn’t like it, they can always vote me off the court in 6 years when I come up for a “retention vote.”

Before you “quickly discount” Mike’s appointment, give due consideration to the fact that we are talking about the state of Florida.

Read Mike’s full application, after the jump.

Killed two people for no particular reason. He claimed he killed one of them after the guy killed the other victim in "self defense" or some such.

You always seem to post fairly quickly. I assume that means you're at Cahill and checking ATL compulsively, therefore not that busy. No wonder you're so concerned about layoffs. . .

3/9 - maybe me, you, and Kash's asslobster can break off and start our own firm. We can make some serious $ and hire 7 to be the asslobster's bitch.

worst. post. ever.

Seriously, there's really nothing else in the legal world worth reporting/discussing? Or is ATL moving full-steam ahead with its "Odd Legal News" push?

If the guy had been a lawyer I'd understand (although it still wouldn't merit a post), but some crackball applying to be on the FL Supremes really doesn't warrant my time.

I'm only wasting my time commenting to let you know you are driving away formerly loyal readers with this drivel. ATL will soon go the way of "Greedy Associate" boards if some editorial restraint is not shown.

ATL -

You can identify the law firm people post from from their IP adress. To stop BS posts, just email copies of the posts to those firms. The firms themselves can use the full IP to identify individual associates.

Problem solved.

You're technically right, but doing that would chill the speech of certain other posters, which you don't want to do.

Such repeat behavior is clearly annoying most of your readers, why don't you just send the IPs of repeat offenders like Cahill guy and Asslobsters and leave the rest of us alone?

There is this website that has the trial transcripts, post trial motions, and appellate briefs posted on line so one can, ostensibly, make up one’s own mind and then vote for guilt or innocence. http://www.southerninjustice.com/

I don’t have the time or inclination to do that, but…

Apparently this particular Florida super court aspirant was, in contrast to his Marin County upbringing, living (fittingly) in a southern TRAILER PARK and while so wallowing in the said same sister raping, incest loving, trailer dwelling Southern culture departed his charming single wide for that of several others, yet returning that night with a bloody tire iron and with his clothing similarly spattered—i.e. far less than normally required to send a dude to Old-Sparkie in the venerable state of Florida.

I am sure that the fact that the defendant was a YANKEE from Godless Marin County was just icing on the cake that gave the trial judge a real nice day ya’ll hear? Gollllleeeee, Dang!!!!!

Here is the Marin County ex-pat’s latest writ.

I have to say that it is handwritten, but immaculately so, with proper case citations, foot notes, and even proper “font” size.

MORAL: If you are from the San Francisco Bay Area or other culturally similar locale, and are REMOTELY thinking of relocating to the SOUTH, PLEASE, PLEASE, rent Easy Rider and Mississippi Burning, then reevaluate.

Of course, like most inmates, he's dead wrong on the law. Florida's Governor does not have the "providence to appoint anyone he so chooses" to the Florida Supreme Court. Rather, the Governor is limited to picking one of the three to six finalists selected by the Judicial Nomination Commission. And there are requirements, including being a member of the bar in good standing for ten years, that Mr. Lambrix obviously doesn't meet.

But I admit he's got chutzpah...
