WTF does "innocent" mean with respect to the guantanamo detainees? Are these like the 60+ "innocent" detainees that we've already caught on engaging in terrorist activities again after having released them? They should just send everyone in detention to a friendly mid-east dictatorship with a strong-man leader (the kind American Democrats swoon over) and let them "deal with" the issue.

I don't think that there is a deal that I have worked on in the last 24 months that has been successful.

I would say that more than half of the deals that I have worked on the last 18 months haven't advanced beyond basic financing commitments that were secured at closing.

It's almost as if half my legal career never actually happened.

Read the NYT story 2. It's written in short, easy to understand language. Even an ignorant drooler like you ought to be able to figure out what innocent means. The scum that was Bush is just beginning to surface. Prepare for more now that the press has the guts to talk about it.

17 - Because the rich can handle it better?

I, personally, would rather live in a society where a few people don't get to buy that Mercedes they've had their eye, and a few more people don't have to starve to death. You?

avatar
20 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, January 19, 2009 12:08 PM

18 - Agreed. Actually I think 95% of people would agree the second they see human suffering. Its easy to say you want your mercedes and f*ck everybody else when your sitting in your law firm office thinking about how much it sucks to be working on a federal holiday or any other day.

18/20: that's an excellent approach--make sure we're all aware of human suffering and then . . . STOP TAKING 45% OF OUR FUCKING INCOME AND LET US DECIDE IF WE AGREE.

Oh, wait, you're the kind of fucking swine that would never agree to that, because whether someone gets their Section 8 housing is important enough to steal from me. Don't ever bring "agreement" into this discussion you animal: you support a system of forced redistribution, period. You think that because you like the idea, you can force others to do likewise.

Don't delude yourself that others "would agree" if they only opened their eyes like you have. You're such an arrogant piece of trash.

If you are a student of history, you will realise that the societies with the greatest desparities of wealth are the happiest. The peasants take the shaft pretty willingly. There is less violence, more stability, and you dont have to settle for a mercedes, you can drive the rolls or the bentley. We should allow the wealthy to rape the nation's wealth to the extent that their will allows them, and allow them to brutally subjugate the lower classes in order to do so.

18, I presume that you've given away nearly all your money every year, so that you're no better than the poorest of the poor?
Because if you're even a dollar richer than the two poorest people in the world, that dollar needs to be redistributed to those two people. You can afford it better than them, no?

Oh wait, what's that? You're only in favor of redistributing wealth when it's other people's wealth and not your own? I gotcha.

How is a progressive income tax a redistribution of wealth? You pay the same, percentage-wise, as everyone else in the country on the amounts you earn.

Also, maybe poor people aren't stupid but maybe they don't have opportunities. Last time I looked at my firm I didn't see too many people growing up in the ghetto and all of a sudden having opportunities or money to attend Ivy league schools. It's real easy to preach that "no redistribution" idea when you grew up in a middle-upper class family and never actually had to struggle. I'll admit that I'm in the same boat as most of you but at least I'm going to not complain about it.

avatar
38 Posted by guest | Permalink Monday, January 19, 2009 10:08 PM

Also, do you know what refundable tax credits are?

avatar

37, high grades + high SAT + initiative + student loans = ivy league. Most white people are not rich.

39, your formula for Ivy league is on the money. Therefore, white people must just be more intelligent b/c they're the majority at Ivy leagues. 50 years ago men must have been more intelligent too - i guess women just caught up.

"Therefore, white people must just be more intelligent b/c they're the majority at Ivy leagues."

In a word, yes. On average (and that's a huge qualifier), whites have higher IQ's than blacks and hispanics (though they lag behind Asians and the sub-group of Ashkenazi Jews). You could attribute this to culture, parental resources, genetics, or some combination thereof. Like it or not though, that's how it is. The only way to eradicate racial disparities is to eradicate races. That's why I suggest that everyone just start fucking.
