A Report on the Madoff Hearing
Bernie Madoff is going to prison — circa NOW. Sentencing on June 16.

Update: Per Am Law Daily, which also liveblogged the hearing, one of Madoff’s lawyers is Mauro Wolfe — a partner at Dickstein Shapiro, and a former colleague of ours from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Hi Mauro! Hope you’re having fun defending Bernie.

He looks so.... smug.
Will Madoff's lawyers get paid?
Denny Chin to Judge of the Day!
2 - You're not the only one wondering that. People at Dickstein are asking that question too.
He's getting life, right?
2 & 4 will dickstein be laying off if they don't get paid?
The conventional wisdom is that he is getting "life" in that he is already 70. Might be different if he was 30 but he ain't.
go Judge Chin! put that crook in jail!!!
Mauro is a good guy. I hope he's having fun with Bernie.
I wonder if Bernie's attorneys expected for his bail to be revoked, and if that would have affected when he pled guilty.
He's gonna die in jail, so why wouldn't he have dragged this out as long as he could?
10 -- that's exactly what I was thinking. I read an article in the New York Times where it was predicted that Bernie's bail would be revoked when he pled guilty. I am wondering why Sorkin and his team didn't anticipate that and try to drag things out as long as Bernie continued to have the cushy bail arrangements in his million-dollar penthouse. I bet he could have dragged it out at least through the end of the year, as preparing for the trial would have been an enormous undertaking.

I agree with 10 and 11 - - this is totally bizarre for someone NOT to take advantage of the slow legal process. He could have lived it up in that fancy penthouse of his for another 12-24 months, minimum.

10, 11, 12 - Bizarre maybe, unless there's some other motive going on. I bet he's trying to take the fall in order to throw investigators off his wife and kids. From what I understand, his kids were in his office every day while this fraud was going on.
When people say to me: would you rather be thought of as a funny man or a great boss? My answer's always the same, to me, they're not mutually exclusive.
Would I rather be feared or loved? Um... Easy, both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.
Will people comment more on this thread? It actually has an intellectual discussion!
