There is no comparison to the level of hotness between the trolls in NYC and the chicks who work in Texas, and probably most of the south. Probably has something to do with the fact that here women still want to be women, and don't spend every second of their lives wanting to prove something.
Sure, there is an abundance of huge fatasses down here. But that is not what you will be pulling down if you're a lawyer. You can have your "cultural life" whatever that means to you, but if you think the women in NY are better looking than the women in TX, then you are either high, an Ivy-Educated ugly woman, or gay. Just another crappy firm doing layoffs. Always has been a second tier shop, at least as far associates are concerned. The partners just ride the associates at Quinn harder than elsewhere, so hours are up and profits are higher.

Greenberg Traurig NY has been deferring 3Ls by phone to avoid giving ATL an email to post.

I don't know if there is any truth behind it or if everyone is just recirculating the same blatant rumor and mistaking it as confirmation. But the well-publicized rumor is that the final list of Fried Frank layoff victims is being finalized tomorrow. The layoffs will happen as soon as firm management can get its act together. That could be as soon as Friday, but more likely next week. No word on departments, but a separate rumor says that real estate is in particular danger.

I know junior partners read this site. Someone please kindly fill us in.

Irell also rescinded some 3L offers. So I guess that only leaves GDC and MTO.

I guess $3.3M or whatever it was just isn't enough for Quinn partners.

Also, I can confirm that Greenberg Traurig is both delaying start dates AND lowering salaries (~$15k/year drop), according to a friend who recently got the phone call.

Look people, the bottom line is every single firm is in trouble: private equity, M&A and banking work is dead and securitization is a dream. Non of the current associates are going anywhere and the model assumes 20% attrition. Compounding that, huge classes of regular and summer associate are coming in, who got offers before times really sucked. And the bankruptcy boom in no way makes up for the drop off.
Bottom line: we're all fucked.

Re: Fried Frank. When the secretaries are openly discussing specifics of the layoffs (20%, this week, next week), you know it's time to get your act together and either make an announcement or confirm that the rumors aren't true (not going to happen). Just pull the band aid off already.

Anyway, the rumors seem fairly substantiated however unofficially from the partnership. 20% of all associates and staff across offices and departments possibly as early as tomorrow. the effort seems to be fairly well-coordinated, so hopefully they won't drag this on for day.
