* Not that anybody asked me, but I think Jeff Steiner should be a little less judgmental towards his laid off friends that are “partying” instead of “diligently volunteering and considering his next career steps.” It really doesn’t take all day to send out resumes and refresh your barren email account, and some people are able to consider all of their career options while playing a little Golden Tee. Everybody’s got their own coping mechanism. [Legal Blog Watch]
* Larry Tribe thinks that a 90% “ever dance with the Devil in the pale moon light” tax is cool. I’m waiting for John Larroquette to weigh in with a cricket bat. [TaxProf Blog]
* I’m ashamed I didn’t put this together earlier. If you don’t have the technical chops to work in IP, think about pulling out your old Property books and brushing up on squatters’ rights. I’m not sure your future clients will be able to pay you, but you are going to have future clients. [Law and More]
* I used to hope the future of criminal investigations would look like an episode of Star Trek, but now I see it’s going to look like an episode of CSI. Oh well, it’s still better than watching five minutes of Minority Report. [Slate]

TAXES RISE
BANKERS FALL
LAWYERS REMAIN
wow, for all thelenites out there in the interwebs, this is not our jeff steiner - though the douchery wouldn't make that clear.
I worked with Jeff. Great guy without a judgmental bone in his body.
If he noted that some people haven't done anything since august, I don't doubt that it's true.
Also, it is one thing to cope. Spending your nights blitzed is quite different.
would any real(?) lawyers care to comment on the bankers trying to be lawyers over at dealbreaker:
http://dealbreaker.com/2009/03/is-the-aig-tax-constitutional.php
Pretty f*cking pathetic when dealbreaker has a post (w/80+ comments) on the legality of the house vote on financial bonuses and, as usual, ATL does nothing but post the same old information on delayed start dates and layoffs. Is there anyone left writing for this site that can put forth any effort to analyze relevelant substantive legal issues in the news? Mystal needs to join the layoff party - soon. All he and the other "writers" do are wait around all day for their "tipsters to weigh in" so that they can recycle the same posts they wrote the day before.
I was expecting this LEGAL blog to have a post today about a the above-mentioned LEGAL issue, i.e., the constitutionality and other LEGAL implications of the (for lack of better term) AIG bonus tax.
Perhaps it would have been enjoyable and productive for LAWYERS to have the opportunity to discuss that issue on this LEGAL blog. So much for that. Instead we got more law firm and law school bashing.
9, MysTTTal doesn't do tax law. He says it's "boring," but we all know it's actually because it would stretch his 155 LSAT analytical skills to the brink.
When was the last time you met a black tax lawyer?
A Batman reference and a West Wing reference in the same bullet point. Weird.
7, 8, 9 - Larry Tribe says it's constitutional. Bonus scandal over.
Larry Tribe said that with a lot of work it would be able to fashion a constitutional bonus tax that would do the job. And here I thought it was a negative that the Republicans spent so much time trying to actively circumvent the Constitution.
10 - don't stereotype. But since tax lawyers are a small subset of lawyers, and black lawyers are likewise, it does reduce the odds of finding a black tax lawyer. But that said, check out: http://www.wsgr.com/WSGR/DBIndex.aspx?SectionName=attorneys/BIOS/10603.htm
