Supeep Court Peeps contest Frank Salamone.jpg

The Peeps diorama above, entitled The Supeep Court, is an entry in the ABA Journal’s Peeps in Law contest. Writes the creator, Frank Salamone:

I love looking at photos of the Supreme Court over time to watch it evolve. However, the photos are often very serious and intense. It was fun to do this lighthearted take on the Court’s annual photo.

Our favorite touch: the bow tie on JPS (John Peeps Stevens). A quibble: Shouldn’t Justice Ginsburg, in pink, and Justice Thomas, in slumber, be switched in position? Compare The Supeep Court to the Supreme Court’s official photo (which reflects the justices’ seniority-based arrangement).

Update (5 PM): As some of you have noted in the comments, it appears we have misinterpreted this Peeps “portrait” of the Court. The pink one is CT, to reflect his being “a different color” than his colleagues, and the “chick” is RBG, to reflect her being, well, a chick. (And yes, commenters, we know about the new Winston & Strawn start date; we’ll include it in the next round-up of start dates.)

Pretty sure the ordering is correct. It makes more sense to think of Justice Thomas as the pink peep since his skin pigment is different from the rest of the Court. Ginsburg in slumber is likely a reference to her recent bout with cancer.

1 - If that's the case, then it's in poor taste - the Ginsburg peep looks dead. Did Jim Bunning make the diorama?

I think 1 is right, but I don' think ginsburg is "in slumber." She appears to be a "chick" peep rather than a "bunny" peep. This fitting because she is a woman and also like half as tall as every other member of the court.

5 is right. You can see her little beak

ATL your not doing your job. Where is the story on Winstrawn Strawn pushing back there start dates to Jan 2010?

avatar

1, you're an idiot.

I dont know whether 5/6 are right that she is presented as short and a 'chick', rather than sleeping. But if it is sleeping, why would you presume that has anything to do with cancer? Might it not be, oh, i don't know, a reference to the rumors that she fell asleep during oral arguments?

8 - It might be. Not sure you've proven 1 is an idiot. But you've definitely proven you have a lot of time on your hands.

7: Yeah, ATL whiffed on that one totally, but on the other hand it was a pretty slick move to send out the deferral announcement on the afternoon of Good Friday when people were occupied with family/holiday matters. Stay classy, WS.

ATL are you crazy? Ginsburg is clearly the chick peep. And why would anyone think she's sleeping? you can see the eyes are open.

Pink = Thomas. The short peep = Ginsburg.
Angry Peep = SCALIA !!!!!!!!

That's clear !!!

I don't think the official photo reflects seniority status. Thomas is standing between Breyer and Ginsburg.

Who's the angry one in the front row?

5/6 are right--Ginsburg is the shorter "chick" peep. Get it? Thomas has a different hue and Scalia is scowling.

Just noticed that ATL now has The Ladders add. Not surprised. But in my experience, The Ladders is a complete fraud! I tried it for a few months, complete waiste of money and my time: They sucker you in to pay a fee, but the only relevant posts are by unscrupulous recruiters, who just try to sign as many victims as possible (presumably just playing the numbers game...)

Anyone else try them? Thoughts?

22 Posted by guest | Permalink Sunday, April 12, 2009 3:29 PM

ok people. this is a lat post. i'm pretty sure lat isn't dumb enough to think the pink one is actually ginsburg - he's being sarcastic.

as for the ginsburg chick, it's either a reference to her height or the fact that she has dozed off while on the bench before.

Ugh, can't believe I'm weighing on on this. The pink one is Thomas because he's black. The middle one is a chick because Ginsberg is a chick. It's not because of her height (none of the other heights vary). It's not because she falls asleep (the chick has eyes, and they're open).

A couple of questions:

Is there anywhere data about how many biglaw jobs have been lost in 2009, 2008, 2007? Also, broken down by practice area?

What happened to the folks that were at Dreier LLP?

Is there a place I can get a model law firm partnership agreement for NY, NJ, or CT?

I have a NY bar but thinking of getting reciprocity to NJ or CT is this possible?

TIA

Any pigfucker out there even thinking about going into law school better rethink their options.

33 Posted by guest | Permalink Sunday, April 12, 2009 7:47 PM

The first casualty, errr, the first casualty after the associates will be the idea of a three year law program. Law schools better learn to boil that into 2 years or a 1 1/2 years. Sorry, no long leisurely vacation periods profs.

After that it will be to offer practical hands-on training. Unless, a school is a top 10 school, no more feminist legal theory, comparative law courses, no more study of the decisions of some obscure 19th century jurist. No more reliance on bar prep courses to actually teach you law. Hofstra is advertising on WCBS radio that their grads have practical training. It's that bad.

31 - For lawyer job loss data:

Practice area information is hard to come by. Firms don't generally release it. Good luck.

Why would Scalia be portrayed as angry? I think he has reason to be angry given how the Supreme Court as endorsed the far-left agenda in Roe, Griswold, more recently terrorists in Rasul, Boumediene and the homosexual agenda in Romer v. Evans, Lawrence v. Texas. No wonder a justice who cares about the Constitution would not be too happy!

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned (or that Lat caught) that the "Thomas" peep is turned toward Breyer, which happens fairly frequently during argument (Thomas and Breyer have little side conversations, usually resulting in one of them laughing).

That's a nice touch.

Well this can't be right because Thomas seems to be smiling and/or talking, both of which would be ridiculous.
