Morning Docket 04.01.09
* Eric Turkewitz is putting the New York Personal Injury Law Blog on the auction block. [New York Personal Injury Law Blog]
* The Franken-Coleman Minnesota Senate legal drama may finally be drawing to a close. The three-judge panel wants to limit the recount to 400 absentee ballots. [New York Times]
* This is not the time to be perceived as privileged. A wave of populism is sweeping the nation says the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. Half of Americans want federal prosecutors to be more aggressive in pursuing criminal charges against business leaders. [Capital Journal/Wall Street Journal]
* Speaking of privileged, those California judges have it good. The conservative group Judicial Watch is going after the over 400 judges who make more than SCOTUS justices, and some of whom have state-provided car allowances and health club memberships. [Associated Press]
* R. Allen Stanford needs a public defender. The Texan billionaire facing “massive” fraud charges from the SEC said he has no money to hire an attorney because all of his assets have been seized. [Bloomberg]
* Justice Department lawyers determined (again) that D.C. is not entitled to representation in Congress, but AG Eric Holder wants a second — or really third — opinion. [Washington Post]

FIRST for the THIRD TIME!!!!!!
Of course Holder wants another opinion. A DC vote would be a guaranteed +1 Democrat vote in perpetuity, regardless of how the Democrats constantly screw over DC and keep its residents in a state of poverty-based perennial bondage (which, perversely, leads them to vote Democrat out of a constantly betrayed belief it will make a difference). Although the Constitution itself precludes a DC vote, that sort of thing hasn't stopped Obama before.
The New York Personal Injury site is a joke, right? He has to be joking when he says that he wants $1 million for his blog.
He seems like he is serious, but that certainly cannot be the case.
THIRD!!!! And Elie, Eric Turkewitz's post is clearly an April Fool's Joke - it even has, as its tag, "April 1"!!!!!!
Hey, I got my first severance check today!!!! Whoopee!!!
You are all April Idiots.
Sincerely,
Skadden Secure
5, that's an April Fool's joke too.
Is there ever going to be a post on Covington's reply to that ridiculous suit? The letter to the EEOC they attached is pretty amazing, and I figured since you covered Yolanda's claims so much, you could at least mention the reply.
lol. stanford is going to a federal pen if he's gonna rely on a public defender. surely SOME middle-weight will step in to do the work probono for the free publicity?
My wife is way bigger than your wife.
meh
"Half of Americans want federal prosecutors to be more aggressive in pursuing criminal charges against business leaders."
Yes, aggressive federal prosecutors are always a good thing... just ask Ted Stevens, whose case is about to be dropped by the U.S. for prosecutorial misconduct.
ITS THA FIRST OF THA MONTH - TIME FOR MASS LAYOFFS
WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP ITS THA FIRST OF THA MONTH
GET UP GET UP GET UP CASH YOUR CHECKS AND GET UP
Second on wanting a post about the Covington reply... love that they revealed her grades and her performance reviews in the EEOC letter.
It's also worth mentioning that Covington's lead lawyer is Michele Roberts of Akin Gump, who in addition to being a no-bullshit, ass-kicking trial lawyer, is also an African-American female. So Yolanda Young will have no excuse that "the system" is trying to destroy her lawsuit.
Oh, and the judge, Reggie Walton, is African-American, too. This really will be amusing.
What exactly is so wrong with paying judges what they would be worth as lawyers? I love how the article's author puts the judges' "personal security" in quotations -- as if it's unheard of for judges to be attacked in their off hours. This nonsense is a drop in the bucket of California's fiscal problems.
>>And Elie, Eric Turkewitz's post is clearly an April Fool's Joke <<
If I get the asking price, or higher, why wouldn't I sell it?
