First to say that calling anything in Detroit "ghetto" is a compliment.

First to say that pursuing immigration reform is a dopey idea. Given the reaction to the last round of proposals, it's fairly clear that the country doesn't really want it.

More reports of unscheduled "performance reviews" at Thompson Hine. Numerous associates who got good/great reviews at their scheduled annual evaluation are now being told that there are "concerns" over their "dedication" and whether they are "billing all of their time".

Quick poll - how many of you also have partners constantly asking if you're "billing all of your time" on a project? I guess that is the most a partner can say without comitting an ethical violation by saying what they really mean - "overbill my clients so that my profits stay up"!

This really isn't on topic, but maybe one of you can help me out. I just got into Savannah, Georgia for a two-day (?) trial, and I'm really looking forward to some good southern food while I'm here, maybe shrimp and grits or something like that. Does anyone have recommendations on what to get, where to go?

8,

I hope they are still doing (yet more) stealth layoffs! That'd be waaay better than cutting everyone's pay by 1/6th again while becoming even bigger dicks about billable hours and face time! How the hell can they be so interested in associate face time and showing enthusiasm when there isn't any work? I'm still supposed to show up on Saturdays, but now I don't have any work and am getting paid 1/6th less?!

It's complete BS. I wish I'd been smart enough to find a good paying 9-5 in house position before the economy tanked.

I hated this job before the pay cut. You can imagine my enthusiasm now...

I just got into my torts class (back row) and I'm really looking for some new material to augment my pathetic and stupid ATL flame efforts about eating in random cities. Does anyone have recommendations on what city to profile next with my weak-a$$ TTT 2L flame?

I have it from a friend in my firm's recruiting department (those left who haven't already lost their jobs, since there's no hiring being done), that a number of legal recruiters have been instructed/discussed the benefits of flaming/trolling/disrupting associate information sharing resources such as Above The Law.

The supposed theory is that if this place is annoying and useless, then less people will use it/take it seriously.

So, just ignore the flamers/trolls! Just ignore them. AND, keep sharing those tips on bullshit going down in your firm!

27,

Hahahaha! I'd believe that. It's not like BigLaw recruiters have any actual hiring to do! I can't decide whether the idea of them stalking this message board to play damage control is more funny or sad...

18,

You're an asshole. I can't tell you how many times over the last few months that I've seen mid-level and senior associates doing document review and other grunt 1st year work! They are hoarding ALL of the hours that should be available to junior associates. Thompson Hine is in serious trouble!

Sooner or later the clients are going to start aggressively questioning the higher billable rates and lack of additional value this presents.

It's not the associates fault that the firm's partners grew the firm in an irresponsible fashion! Everyone should share the pain rather than random human sacrifices! Junior associates have mortgages, families, and student loans. This is a bloodbath.

I hated this job before the paycut/layoffs too. The difference between us is I won't throw other blameless people under the bus for my own self-interest!

Come to think of it, you'd make a fantastic TH partner, 18. Best of luck to you, you'll go far with the firm.

FACT: J.J. Jr. is corrupt, but he'll get a pass like Rep. Jefferson because he's a black liberal.
