Mystttal slams GW? How original.
They should interview a Latham NY first year.
Comment removed by moderator.
The Latham NY protest is going to hilarious and awesome. It's going to be a bunch of hired actors and former associates in fake wigs and mustaches and sunglasses. I can imagine a reporter interviewing some actor and everyone at Latham being like "who the fuck is that?"
K&E saved their lawyers a lot of hassle by timing those lay-offs for the week before Assistants Day, or whatever you want to call it. Another sign of a well-run firm.
GSU should be happy. Moving up from 97 to 65 in the rankings over the course of three years is quite an accomplishment!
hey guys, is lat gay? honest question
Bar/Bri has been teaching law using easy to follow videos for years. Maybe now the competition will force them to offer a money back guarantee?
GREAT INTERVIEW LAT! DIDN'T KNOW YOU HAD A LISP. COULDN'T TELL FROM READING YOUR EDITORIALS.
AND NO ONE SAY ANYTHING RUDE ABOUT LAT BECAUSE THAT IS NOT NICE.
AND YES I AM YELLING!
One 'f' in 'trifecta,' I think
Moderate #4.
Not funny & offensive.
8 -- Absolutely not. He just likes dudes.
What nonlawyer would enjoy looking at this website?
Bang up job, Lat! Like always.
No mention of the fire at SLS?!?!
http://www.stanforddaily.com/cgi-bin/?p=1029639
Man, this annoying "video professor" is here too. Anyone else think he is the most annoying thing out there right now (since Verizon discontinued their "can-you-hear-me-now shtick). Seriously, he is horrible and so fuckin' annoying, I'm starting to be reluctant to watch CNBC because of him.
Hey Lat--80 grand isn't 1/3 of 160.
i'm pretty sure that's NOT the dean of USC in the article...
GSU should be super excited, they really pwned John Marshall this year!
Um, the dean at USC is Bob Rasmussen...was the article meant to be about the University of South Carolina??
USC should be demoted 50 spots for this nonsense.
Hey, maybe you should figure out if the story is actually true before posting it as such. Since none of that "video professor" stuff (or the Rosetta stone kiosks) are actually happening at USC, I'm pretty sure the litination story was meant to be a joke.
Way to go guys.
"David Lat was on television today, trying to explain attorney's pain to the masses."
attorney's pain sounds like it's some kind of disease. Maybe you meant attorneys' pain?
23--First they make racist and homopobic "jokes". Then they demonstrate the reading skills of an inanimate carbon rod. Nice work, ATL community.
The show should not have put Lat in a position where his head would be leaning left the whole time. It made it seem amateurish.
Also it was kind of funny that the male anchor did not realize ATL is Lat's full time job. I also like when Lat queened out when the anchor said he looked youthful.
It should be "attorneys' pain"
It should be "attorneys' pain"
Ha! They thanked "David Lit" for being there at the end.
i'm from georgia and i didn't even know georgia state had a law school.
if he likes dudes, doesnt that mean hes gay?
I nominate William Parente for lawyer of the week, at the very least.

That last story about USC is not true. There was no such announcement and the dude is not the Dean.
USC article: no such announcement was made, and that guy is NOT the dean.
i am proud of georgia state; another 20 or 30 slots higher and i can get into pissing contests with uga grads
#30--your point (other than your ignorance)?
36, that this will actually be really good publicity for them for in-state students who traditionally just look at uga. sorry, i should have put "wow" in front of that.
32:
You are a pathetic piece of shit. Enjoy your moment of my attention.
David Lat is asian?
David Lit, good ta see ya!
To the moron at 38:
The Lawyer of the Day feature here highlights lawyers who do bad things. As this was an awful, horrible thing, I changed day to week.
Now drink your juice, junior.
26: Don't be jealous because you are 28 but you look like you are 53 with a face resembling a catcher's mitt. That's what happens to white people, especially women.
Why didn't Lat bother to wear a suit for the interview?
Lat --
You're cute. And smart. Will you marry me? Seriously. Just ditch the chinos. TIA.
-- Lawyer Gay
43, David Lat would have worn a suit but David Lit didn't feel the need. David Lit doesn't care what anyone thinks.
Next time you are on TV you can talk about real pain in the legal professsion, new grads with 150K in debt and NO job offers period.
What other goddamn part of academia raises their goddamn tuition in line with salaries? Its a goddamn travesty what these goddamn law schools have done to us, goddamit.
methinks the litination site is supposed to be parody, ala the onion. but i am just a caveman.
18 - $80K is one-third of what the poster child for the Skadden Sidebar program earns:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/13/nyregion/13bigcity.html?_r=1&hp
Bloggers aren't supposed to wear suits. Lat probably doesn't even wear a jacket / tie most days.
Does he even own a suit?
I'm sure Lat has a suit. He used to work at Wachtell (where they don't even have casual Fridays).
I don't know who this "David Lit" character is, but David Lat was on Charlie Rose:

Quiz time!!
Q: I went to georgia state law school and now am the managing partner of a major, international law firm. Who am I?
A: a figment of your imagination.
I'm new here. Can someone tell me about this fat "Elie" character?
Wow, I never realized David Lat was such a little bitch with a lisp.
55 here, my bad I didn't see that #10 already covered the lisp issue. Didn't mean to repeat the whole thing about the lisp since #10 already mentioned the lisp...... lisp.
53:
I went to Georgia State and graduated w/o any student loans b/c tuition was $7k/year, whereas everyone else I know who went to a private school graduated w/ at least $150k in debt and became miserable trying to pay it off. They did go to more 'prestigious' schools, people even ask me 'huh? Georgia State?' but guess what? Is it Yale? No. Will I ever work at Skadden? No (nor do I want to). I don't see the reason that you're criticizing an incredibly affordable school that just so happens to have jumped so much in the ranks lately....are you jealous? FEeling your student loan payments? Don't criticize people for their academic and personal choices b/c you never know why people chose the path they chose. People like you must love this website b/c you can sound off anonymously and be a jerk by belittling people you never did anything to you. Oh and it's interesting you chose "managing partner of a major, international law firm" as something that a Georgia State grad apparently could never become. Whoopdee shit! There are a lot of things that GSU grads CAN become and DO become. Sorry about all the money you spent on your law career....
Moderator: so you remove comments when they're racist and denigrating and about DAVID LAT but not when other people post the N-word or "bitch" (all the time)? How about removing all horrible comments or removing none of them? Doesn't seem right...
LAT: Great job on the interview!
I bet Lat is one of the top 10 most famous lawyers in America because of his work on this site.
57 - you forgot to mention Nancy Grace taught at GSU Law. Wait a minute... I'm not so sure that is something to be proud of! But in all seriousness, I'm glad to see GSU move up in the rankings. A lot of really hardworking Atlantans there.
Commenting extensively on the very few attorneys who will receive these one time glorified severances takes away from the real issue. Most firms have completed layoffs, stealth or not, and will likely only offer these packages to the very few associates who might be worth retaining, a very small percentage of big firm associates and an even smaller percentage of lawyers overall. Most lawyers, especially recent grads, make no where near that amount of money (the 1/3 figure) if they can find work at all. When I was laid off from a small firm I took a quasi-legal federal courts job that pays nothing compared to my NYC BigLaw colleagues however I receive the best health care possible, a pension, work M-F 9-5 with over a month of sick days and vacation and best of all, I have job security to ride out this S**t Show. The legal profession is in shambles, I rarely visit this site any more and was only trying to find some info on the New Haven Firefighters case that was argued today. I know this site has had its issues with inflammatory posts, some of mine made roughly 2 years ago would certainly qualify. In these times perhaps some positivity, some sympathy for your out-of-work colleagues is do.
My GSU experience. Total tuition cost = about 18K. First three years of practice = about $400K. I was on law review, but not in the top 10%. I am at a regional, but fairly large firm. I am happy with my ROI. Granted, the majority of GSU grads do not make six-figures straight out of law school, but they really do not need to either. I work with a number of ivy league grads who wish they had the freedom I do.
I work at a small firm, we shut down the office and everybody went to get hibachi (or sushi if you eat it)- lawyers, paralegals, secretaries and receptionist. Good times.
58 - If you see an offensive comment, you need to report it by email. The policy has been explained:
"We will continue to moderate comments -- and we request your help in doing so. If you see a problematic comment that you want deleted, please email us, identifying the specific comment(s) by post title and comment number. Because of the sheer volume of comments posted to ATL, we have adopted this "notice and takedown" procedure to comment moderation, as opposed to full-time, active moderation."

This "news" that some of the most sought-after law graduates from a few top law schools are being offered a generous stipend to be available later is being MISREPORTED to make people think this is "pay for no work" is widespread. It's extremely rare. Maybe 1% of new lawyers have this option. The other 99% of new lawyers are just trying anything to survive. Any further discussion of "pay for no work" needs to focus on how unusual and exceptional it is. Fox News was incredibly careless in letting this wrong message get out. Next they'll be reporting that all actors in L.A. get ten million dollars per movie.
Lat, you are my man.
Syracuse Law has made a very poor decision in approving the Sports and Entertainment Law Certificate Program. They apparently are giving out certificates for anything. This is horrible for a school whose image is already shattered by a number of misguided unqualified wanna be lawyers

67/68,
First, learn how to post only once. Second, who exactly are the misguided, wanna-be lawyers that you are talking about?
You're an idiot.
