Adventures in Lawyer Advertising: ‘The Dopest Attorney’
Allison Margolin, whom we have written about before, is an HLS grad who practices law in Los Angeles. According to her website, she “handles all criminal cases from murder to medical marijuana.” But the latter would appear to be her passion, judging from how she wishes to be reached:
When we were in L.A. in March, we spotted her ad in L.A. City Beat (a newspaper that has since folded). A tipster did us the favor of scanning it and sending it our way:

Her branding skills are dope, yo.
We don’t know if Margolin was on law review during her days at Harvard Law School, but we do know she recently penned a legal editorial for stoners. Check out her argument against the prosecution of medipot growers in CelebStoner.

Her practice is probably not prestigious enough for the overpaid paralegals here! =\
Pretty sweet actually.
If this girl hadn't graduated from HLS, Elie would be trashing her viciously.
LA - either you love it or hate it.
Harvard Law? Can she spell?
I'd hit it. (Her and the dutchie she's holding on her left hand side)
9 - very nicely done.
Sweet. A Harvard grad.
That's a picture of the ad, not a scan.
I love how both the paralegal and the intern on her website have model headshots... To live and practice law in LA...

what is she doing with her arms in that picture?
Elie,
Serious question - is this you at 1:35 in this youtube (the guy in the suit)? Did they have your permission? If so why didn't you tell us you were on TV? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pyW6w5B7Aw
The woman on the site and the woman in that ad are not the same person.
Elie do you have *ANY* investigative ability? This dumb bitch inherited the practice from her father, famous marijuana attorney Bruce Margolin. That's also how she got into Harvard. Don't you think this might be relevant to the story?
"I recently won a landmark case in Superior Court for a client who was in possession of more than 300 pounds of marijuana for medicinal purposes."
That must be one sick bastard.
shouldn't it be "**whom** we have written about before"? ("about whom we have written before)
She has Paul Hastings coat hanger marks all over her.
she has some hilarious blogs: http://allisonmargolin.blogspot.com/
http://lasdopestattorney.googlepages.com/
I'd happily smoke up and have a debriefing with Allison, her paralegal, and her intern...
Works on contingency? No, money down!
1) the broad is hot- but obviously crazy.
2) I can't believe the Bar allows ads like this!
Professionalism! That's why!
OMG ELIE!!!!
You deleted the "Pope Führer" reference from your post last week. What the hell?
http://abovethelaw.com/search.php?cx=016468871173144498974%3Aad9tci4ogk0&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=f%C3%BChrer&sa.x=0&sa.y=0&sa=submit#603
This is unreal. You deleted it. Remember when Elie called the Pope of the Catholic Church "Pope Führer" last week!
Here is proof: http://abovethelaw.com/search.php?cx=016468871173144498974%3Aad9tci4ogk0&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=f%C3%BChrer&sa.x=0&sa.y=0&sa=submit#603
Look at the first thread.
Now, Elie has deleted the comment because he regrets it, but won't apologize.
This is crazy.
In my ethical lawyering class here in LA, the prof actually showed us her ad as an example of what not to do. The claim "dopest lawyer" can't be substantiated by facts and is a violation of the CA rules.
You all know that Elie didn't write this one, right?
According to Google Street View, her location is pretty nice, and she shares an office building with "Hustler" .... NICE!
Actually, this woman is incredible.
Has anyone noticed if Elie has edited any posts recently?
If so that would be unreal, if he deleted it.
Does anyone have proof? I would like to see it.
Has Elie deleted the comment for any particular reason? Will he apologize?
That would be crazy.
28- the jury is still out.
"Dopest" may not be a claim regarding the quality of her work, her standing, etc... It fairly may be read as a claim about her area of practice, which appears to be THC-related.
I can't believe I have gone all of law school without being hammered for class even once.
dopiest
Isn't advertising how to "smoke pot on probation" getting a little too close to advising people about how to get away with a crime? Not sure I would want to hire an attorney whose judgment told them publishing this ad was totally fine...
29, what's your point? does that mean it doesn't have to be correct?
I'm just thinking outside the box here, but I think she needs to be careful about her advertising. If someone smoked dope, relying on this advertisement to get out of trouble, then this "hot lawyer" might be in trouble. Now I'm not a lawyer, but I think you could argue that her advertisement constitutes an implied promise to get you off of a minor drug offense. Damages would be capped at reliance damages (of course). I need to do more research, but I think Restatement 90 is quite clear on this.
37, as NYC's seventh most prominentest attorney, I can safely say you're 100 percent correct.
Aside from looking like a Czech madam running a low class brothel, this woman is a prime example of what's wrong with today's generation of attorneys. I find her advertisement to be unethical and criminal (solicitation of a criminal act). I never had respect for west coast attorneys and apparently anything goes according to the California Bar authorities.
Even with all of her Paul Hastings scars, I would still pound her in the ass.
Love Gavel
PE makes me laugh out loud at work every fucking time. I want to work for you.
Normally, in order to fully appreciate the importance of this item, we would have to know whether Harvard Law School is accredited by the American Bar Association. However, since one does not have to be a graduate of an ABA-approved law school to sit for the bar examination in California, that inquiry is irrelevant ot Ms. Margolin's circumstances.
35 - she is offering to help people get medical marijuana, legally.
24 = win.
PE -- Why does your face resemble what I imagine an 80 year vagina would look like if it was filled with lemons?
Curious in Chicago
43, medical marijuana is legal under state law but it is still in violation of federal law, even if that law is temporarily not being enforced.
Dude. I am SO hungry.
Texas bar results have been unleashed and they are humongous!
Anyone know her?
@8: Sadly, no she can't. She misspelled the name of her intern on her website. The run-on sentences and atrocious grammar on her site don't help either. (Although they may be intentional, to flow better with the mindset of her client base.)
That said, I too would hit the entire office staff.
Is she hiring?
"Ms. Rausch knows that becoming a lawyer will give her the ability to fight for the injustices within the legal system"
It doesn't get any better than that folks.
28, what school?
Dope is for Dopes!
Tulane6L
Two theories:
(1) Her ad does not say that she graduated from Harvard - perhaps she just means that as part of her practice she will be applying 'Harvard Law,' i.e., the law that she believes is taught at Harvard.
(2) She attended (South Marina del Rey) Harvard (Upstairs) School of Law
do you think she could help me? i relied on obama making pot legal once he was president.
can i sue him under section 90? i think it's called a promissarry estopel claim.
I saw this chick yesterday. She was on a date with Michael Phelps.
55,
Go to the California bar's website, you skeptical db. She graduated from HLS.
See, people at HLS are fucking stupid just like people at Colorado State.

"Allison B. Margolin, is dully licensed to practice in the State of California."
awesome.
57 = Champion
Uh oh. The paralegal is in charge of the website. Looks like she is going to be getting a spanking from the boss tonight! I hope the intern watches...
50 - You could too. As shown on the "Sos" link, the paralegal really likes the "conjugal visits".
Here website (in the fine print) also notes that she is a "DULLY licensed attorney." Just the attorney I'm looking for.

68 -- glass house, throwing stones, you know the drill...
68, "Here website"? Way to throw glass stones, dude.
68 here. I'm an idiot.
Partner Emiritus is the worst kind of person ever. He's not an elitist, he's a wannabe elitist. He goes on the internet and spouts his worthless opinion to feel superior in his own mind, which accomplishes nothing for anyone including himself. No one knows who you are buddy. You're such a loser. Get a life queer.
72,
Way to attack a harmless and occasionally funny schtick, throwing in a homophobic slur for no apparent reason.
I hope HLS takes their diploma back
73-Why not? Also, the homophobic slur emphasizes what a queer he actually is.
72 does NOT have a sense of humor, and he is the the one that needs to get a life. Also, gay-bashing should be directed at Elie, not P.E.
Associate Emeritus
Representative Experience:
-Represented Jeffrey Lebowski on possession charges.
-Represented Walter Sobchak on fire arms charges related to his alleged display of a firearm during league play
-Represented Uli Kunkel, aka Karl Hungus, on charges of allegedly harboring an amphibious rodent within the city limits
If 76 is 73 which is a reasonable inference, 73 is a hypocrite with regards to homophobia. He also doesn't have a sense of humor, displaying himself as "Associate Emeritus." He also has a severe inferiority complex, placing himself below PE as AE on a random blogging comment website. At least you should call yourself MPE or SPE, but you're too stupid and you want to suck PE's tiny dick.
That chick should change her name to Harvard H. McHarvard, Harvard-at-law

You may say that she's driven by greed,
But this bitch makes a killing off weed.
Clinton didn't inhale
But if he had gone to jail
Her intern would be all he'd need.

Yeah - I knew her at Columbia College. She's what she presents herself as being, following in daddy's footsteps. She's smart, a bit off, and not actually all that hot....
What 81 is doing may look fun,
But I hope his rhymes are done,
Not a lim ricker but a rim licker
His life would end quicker
If someone would shoot him with a gun.
83, epic epic fail. Your meter is atrocious. Also you are very clever for pointing out the obvious play on words that is my trollname.

Who are these jobless people playing around on the internet?
She really is attractive, as this piece (courtesy of her website) shows:

Who are these jobless people playing around on the internet? The Lim Ricker. Hilarious.
Here she is out on a date with Michael Phelps (this is cell phone camera so not very clear but you can see that it's him):

Do these people have no self-consciousness whatsoever about being L.A. stereotypes?
Don't be fooled, guys. She may look like she could be hot, but underneath that $20 Glamour Shot and Target-brand facepaint lies the bone structure of a fat girl in denial.
What an ugly chick.
This lady is my hero.
87 - you and I definitely have different understandings as to what the word "attractive" means
And for all of you that think her assistant is hot, click on the "Dear Sos" link on the website only if you want to be proven wrong in the ugliest possible way
23 and 66: I always wondered who purchased those Milkin' Mammaries mags at the newstand. Now I know. See http://www.lasdopestattorney.com/sos.html

Believe it or not she wasn't that good in bed. She just laid there?

74 you are an idiot.
I don't know if you went to law school, much less Harvard, but there's a few things they teach you there:
1) Federal vs. state law (and in CA, marijuana is legal with a prescription and Obama does not plan to enforce the federal law in CA).
2) That people accused/convicted of crimes, no matter how guilty they may be, are entitled to defense regardless if they pay themselves or we the taxpayers do. Attorney's can and are obligated to tell their clients what is and is not against the law for probation matters and what types of behaviors/test results will get that probation revoked. To do otherwise would be malpractice, and you as the attorney cannot tell said client NOT to smoke pot despite any possible ramifications.
3) At Harvard at least, they teach their law students to respect others' viewpoints, and if she likes pot/has sympathy . Most HLS grads go into big law firms after graduating, and Ms. Margolin is turning down an awfully big pay check to practice what she cares about.
On a personal note to you, just because she's intelligent, worked hard to get where she is, and has different views than you do doesn't give you any grounds to belittle what she's earned. Even alumni that are clear hypocritical lawbreakers like Elliot Spitzer, as embarrassing as that may be for Harvard, are not denounced by the school.
Why don't you just chill out and smoke a joint...or better yet, get a job rather than hate on someone else over the internet.
- HLS 2L
Look, compared to most female lawyers, this one is definitely bangable. End of story. She may not be angelina jolie, but among lawyers admitted to the bar, she's definitely humpable.
99 = racist
She is a Harvard Law graduate, although she spent her 3L year at Boalt under the HLS/Boalt exchange program.
101 = fail
The website says: "WE SPEAK ENGLISH, ARMENIAN, SPANISH & FARSI"
Of course you do.
99 - please just admit that you are not a harvard 2L. If you are, god help us all because your post was incoherent if not borderline retarded. If you're a flame, then strong work - again, if not, this profession has a bleak future ahead of it, or at least, you do.
101 here,
105 = recently laid-off homophobe
She looks like Amy Winehouse.
i would do nearly anything to fire up the old outboard motor on this lady...if you get my drift
99,
Hard work? She followed in daddy's footsteps.
How much does she charge an hour?
Stuck-up know-it-all Ivy League brats like 99 and bitter TTT douchebags like 105 are what's wrong with the legal profession...but I don't think that's really news to anybody.
...the real questions should be a) when will this woman appear in Playboy as she claims to want to do? and b) does she know where to hook up a dime sack?
I would totally blow pot smoke up her vag; and then re-inhale the pot scented queefs.
Allison is a smart, thoughtful, cool and very nice lady, and I have no doubt a competent criminal attorney as well - any of you would be lucky to know her.
