Legal Eagle Wedding Watch 6.14: Chemistry Lesson

We’ll bottom-line this week’s contest, folks: The SCOTUS clerk wins. Yep, after a long absence, LEWW’s favorite credential makes a welcome appearance in the NYT weddings section, and we’ve got the details for you.
But first, congratulations to Sabrina Charles and Jamie Dycus, who readers overwhelmingly voted Legal Eagle Couple of the Month for May, demonstrating that — in the words of one commenter (and apparently, in the minds of ATL readers) — “Wachtell > Sotomayor > Olympic medal.”
Here are our finalists:

1. Kathryn Whitfield and Adam Fotiades
2. Christina Krause and Peter Henderson
3. Pamela Bookman and Jeffrey Perlman

More about these couples, after the jump.

1. Kathryn Whitfield and Adam Fotiades
(Buy them an appetizer plate.)
The Case:
– This couple met as undergraduates at UPenn. She graduated cum laude; he was magna. Then they headed south for law school, she to Vanderbilt and he to UVA.
– Both are clinging to associate jobs at respectable law firms in New York. Kathryn is at Shearman & Sterling, and Adam is at Kirkland & Ellis.
The Case Against:
– Nothing objectionable, really. With a name like “Kathryn Whitfield,” you expect to see a super-pretentious registry, but it’s actually quite down-to-earth. Thumbs up, but not our winner.

2. Christina Krause and Peter Henderson
(Buy them a vegetable bowl.)
The Case:
– This bride and groom both graduated cum laude from Harvard. She remained at Harvard for a JD, while he went to Cornell for medical school.
– Christina is set to start work in October as an associate in the corporate department at Davis Polk. Peter is completing a residency in general surgery and also studying for an MBA at NYU.
The Case Against:
– Again, not much to carp about here. In a weaker month like March or November, this couple would have an easy path to LEWW victory. As it is, there’s no shame in second place.

3. Pamela Bookman and Jeffrey Perlman
(Buy them a placemat.)
The Case:
– This couple’s write-up includes a fairly detailed account of how they got together. Short version: They encountered each other on and off for roughly ten chemistry-free years before sparks finally flew. First they were undergrads together at Yale (she graduated magna); then they were housemates one summer while Pam was in law school at UVA. Romance did not blossom. “There was just nothing there,” Ms. Bookman recalled. “He had really, really long hair, and I just wasn’t into that.” A few years later, at a birthday party, he had shorter hair (or she was less picky), and they hit it off.
– Jeffrey is president and founder of an energy efficiency and renewable energy company in Manhattan. He also plays in “a Russian and Balkan Gypsy music band.”
– Pam recently left WilmerHale and will report to work in July in the chambers of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She previously clerked for Second Circuit Judge Robert D. Sack, who officiated at the wedding (which was “the best wedding of the century,” according to the couple’s own website).
The Case Against:
– After failing to come up with a case against our first two couples, we’re certainly not going to pick on this d-Electable pair.
The Verdict:
Congratulations, Team Bookman-Perlman!
