* It really hasn’t been the best couple of days for White & Case. Not only is one of their attorneys involved in a sex scandal, but now their Moscow office has been raided by Russian authorities. [The Lawyer]
* It’s also not the best day to be working at Freshfields. [ABA Journal]
* Meanwhile, David Lat filled up the house at the New York City Bar association this afternoon. He had some very helpful hints on how to break back into Biglaw. [City Room Blog]
* Is anybody interested in practicing law in Mexico? It sounds better than sitting around New York City waiting for the economy to turn. [What About Clients?]
* What movies should lawyers watch? [Texas Lawyer]

First to wonder why any of this is news
White & Case is a despicable firm...plain and simple.
So I just read something funny while over at the ABA journal website in the comments section. The annoying guy who always posts in here about promissory estoppel claims is posting over there too. Still not funny but I enjoyed it knowing where he came from and that he is not only on this site.
Texas Lawyer is a shill for the legal education industry. They basically ignore the rampant unemployment and underemployment among new law school grads over the past 2 years. THey continue to sell the idea that all is great in the legal profession.
They are complicit in the spreading of the falsified income and employment statistics that the law schools use to lure in new applicants and get them to sign up for massive debt and then 3 years later---poverty.
Scammers, all.

First to agree with 1. Slow news day.
Crushing debt, a crappy new job, and no hope for the future. I probably won't be around much longer people.
-Suicidal Laid Off Latham 1st Year
david lat did what? one of five people on the first of four panels =/= headliner.
MOAR BAREBACK
its despicable to charge indebted people with no job for stand up from Lat and advise to be positive and "network"
I heard there is white mail job fair. Does anyone know where this is?

agree with 9. Lat's "help" was beyond useless to those who have been fired. what a little turd.
Movies every lawyer should watch and a one sentence ( or so) moral:
1. Michael Clayton: Big law sucks; lawyers are a bunch of amoral, coniving, greedy SOBs--but you signed up for this, so deal with it.
2. A Civil Action: Its not about you, its about the client.
3. A Few Good Men: The law screws over even well-intentioned people; don't f*%k with Jack Nicolsen.
4. The Paper Chase: Being smart and working hard do not guarantee success; you are not special.
5. The Devils Advocate: All forms of success require the sacrifice of personal values and family.
6. Two for The Money: see id; know thyself lest thou be thine owns undoing; "Everything's about money,"
7. Pi--the quest for fame and perfection results in your own destruction; its happier being an ordinary Joe.
8. The Recruit: They lie, cheat, and steal to get you in and once you're in, you can't get out. Trust no-one.
9 nailed it. Lat your a hypocrite doing the same thing as law schools do..changing for useless classes.
Lat didn't charge for the event; it was sponsored by the New York City Bar and Vault. He was just one of the panelists.
Graduated top 15% at a T50 school Cum Laude, any chance I'll be employed ever? TIA
ATL: I certainly did not go to hear David Lat speak and I find it slightly offensive to suggest his presence was the main attraction, especially since he wasn't "helpful" at all. Still, his bit of stand-up did make me chuckle.
10: I found the job fair you were looking for.

14- the bar charged for the event
The bit on Freshfields firing incomings by voice mail and throwing them 1K should have been a full post. Also, your Saudi post said Freshfields was the partner but the Saudi firm also partners with Hogan and Hartson.
12,
i've only seen 3 of these (your 1, 2 and 4) but agree they are great. Better may be Body Heat -- although its more about the Rule against Perpetuities than Section 90.
"raided"??? Probably not the right word... a few authorities probably walked to the reception area, rang the bell, and politely asked to speak with a few attorneys of particular interest. Raided makes it sound like they busted down the doors with guns which would be so overkill for an office run by a bunch of pansy ass lawyers. Quick, get to the shredder
There is no "sex scandal" at White & Case. Nobody gives a fuck about the no-name lawyer involved and nobody ever will. The same 5,000 people read this site everyday. They do not qualify as an important and/or large enough audience to make it a "scandal."
I interviewed at White & Case's Miami office in law school. It was by far the most unprofessional place I stepped foot in during my twenty + callbacks. They didn't book a hotel or a car; only provided a car from the hotel to their shitty office. When I arrived at the office, they seemed utterly unprepared, as if I had shown up unannounced. My first interviewer wasn't there that day -- out of town! My second interviewer had not looked at my resume and instead asked me detailed questions on whether I was really interested in Miami (I am from there and my resume clearly reflected the ties). The third Interviewer was a lateral who had been there for two months. He was the only useful portion of the interview because he was able to give me his take versus his prior firm, also a Miami shop. The fourth and fifth interviewers--a female partner and a male associate--interviewed me together, but the associate did 100% of the talking except for introductions, until the end when the partner asked me if I had lunch plans. I said I did not, but, strangely, she did not invite me to lunch. I left there thinking it was a colossal waste of everyone's time--they clearly weren't interested in hiring me--and worried that they weren't going to reimburse my travel expenses. Two days later I got an offer. Eight weeks later I got my reimbursement, and the same day I declined the offer.
promissory estoppel guy also posted on the NYTimes City Room blog at 2 p.m.
He/She is definitely venturing out with his schtick.
In America, you go to whores.
In Russia, whores come to you.
What a country!
Lemme guess, White and Case is going to complain the strictures of due process are not being properly applied in Moscow? Sorry, that crappy legal maneuvering (legal journalism really) does not work in Russia only here.
Is anyone surprised White and Pasty - I mean Case - is getting smacked for the some classic "The Firm" style corruption.

It's also pretty easy for Lat to say he wished he had networked with other students rather than stuck his head in a book for three years, but that's pretty much required at lower-tiered schools to distinguish yourself.
I can't believe the City Bar could fill a room with people willing to go BACK to BIGLAW after they were so royally screwed. That really says a lot about that ilk.
I would pay to see a video of some hot girl on girl action with Bingham Stepford Secretary and SexyLexus
Finally W&C is getting its just desserts! Sex scandals, its Moscow office being raided by Russian police for criminal activity, etc. Hopefully W&C will continue to get hammered on all sides and collapse under the weight of its own incompetence, mismanagement and criminal and immoral acts!
