Swine Flu in the Bronx D.A.’s Office
Remember to wash your hands, New York attorneys. There’s been a swine flu outbreak in the Bronx. Here’s the memo from the Bronx District Attorney’s Office:
Yesterday I was informed that there were three who have contracted the H1N1 virus also known as “swine flu”. Each is home and being treated by their physicians. All of them work in the Criminal Court Bureau. I have been in communication with the Mayor’s Office and the Health Department. I have also informed Administrative Judge Efrain Alvarado. Attached you will find Health Department guidelines dealing with the virus and preventing its spread. In light of these diagnoses our Office will conduct a cleaning in the Criminal Court Bureau to help curtail the virus’ spread. Please read the attached guidelines. While this is a potentially serious illness, each of the individuals who contracted the virus took the appropriate steps by not coming to work and seeking medical attention. Unless there is an underlying medical condition this virus has been relatively mild. We will continue to monitor our staff and report any additional cases to the appropriate authorities. I want to assure everyone that we as an Office wish to address the concerns of staff as they relate to this issue. We will continue to communicate with you and provide you with information. Further, we will continue follow the recommendations of the health authorities. If there are any questions please feel free to call me.
When this happens at a school, they close the school and bring in a lot of soap. But when it happens at a place of business (as we’ve seen already with the outbreak at Mayer Brown), it seems like the onus is on individual employees to protect themselves.
Still, I’m not too concerned. I’ve got chicken soup, Robitussin, and Sprite, so I should be golden.

Comments
Its called Texican Pig Flu. Get it straight.
"This is a plague brought by the white man! They are trying to kill the indigenous just like they tried to kill the Native Peoples!"
-- SotomayOR!
No, its called Montezuma’s raging vengeful-upping-of-the-stakes-to-kill-everything-you-hold-dear.
"Why is it called Mayer Brown? Is this a white man's pun on 'Soto-MAYOR = Brown'? The white devil will soon be eradicated via Aztlan!"
-- SotomayOR!
I would hope that a wise Latin flu with the richness of its experiences would more often than not infect a better audience than a white flu that hasn’t infected that life.”
Boring
Why the constant bashing of Sonia Sotomayor and Samuel Alito? They both are aware of their ethnic/religious/etc. backgrounds, and both take that into account when making legal decisions.
BREAKING NEWS - past experiences inform current views!!!
Get over it already.
"past experiences inform current views"
DOES NOT EQUAL
"Latinas are superior to white males"
8,
I agree. What's your point? Your use of quotes indicates you are quoting someone - who (other than you) said "Latinas are superior to white males"?
Before you bravely wade into battle against a straw man, you should at least go out there and attach the straw man to the stick, first.
If Alito had said the following, groups like La Raza would be marching in the streets and burning down buildings in D.C. --
"I would hope that a wise White man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina."
10,
An interesting, if unsupported, assertion. Pray tell, straw man warrior, what "evidence" do you have that the mere utterance of such a phrase would cause rioting if Alito had said it?
Follow up question - given that Sotomayor was originally appointed by Bush I, and that the materials provided during her confirmation included the same comment, why did Republicans nominate and confirm her as a judge in the first place?
Please enlighten us.
11, it's called understanding society and politics. It seems your ability to comprehend what is taking place around you is narrow. I can't help you with reading comprehension, and I certainly cannot detail La Raza's antics for you. But you should see how Janet Murguia wants fascism to replace the free marketplace of ideas. Just look for her little debate with Lou Dobbs on youtube. Watch all three parts. Forget the politics, look at her fascist, speech-stifling agenda.
As for the GOP, Bush I, like his son, is a liberal believer in Affirmative Action, not unlike Obama. If Bush Junior had his way, all the Latino/Hispanic lawbreakers would have been amnestied years ago. It was a stupid decision to nominate her then, and a stupid decision to nominate her now.
But republicans have a history of making bad judicial nominations. Look at the liberal Supremes appointed by so-called conservatives!

For those of you who are to much like “sheeple” to keep up with HiNi, H1N1, Swine Flu, Mexican Flu or whatever they are calling it today. Here's a good quick study of the lessons learned from the outbreak:
http://healthyamericans.org/newsroom/releases/?releaseid=178
CDC and WHO have gave up on containment weeks ago, H1N1 can not be contained. You could wash down everything in existence, but H1N1 will not be stopped. So, hold on to your HiNi's! Its knocking at your door knob and elevator buttons! H1N1 definitely flies on United and most airlines and is at most airline hubs around the country. So, there's no where to run or hide from it.
The CDC, WHO and the media have downplayed H1N1 because they cannot win the war and they don't want to cause any more disruptions in global economy.
So, PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS! H1N1 is airborne too and can lives on surfaces in order to hitch a human ride. This is a real global pandemic. WHO is expected to raise its level to 6 soon. So, this "mild" virus I estimate it will kill 1% of those that catch it. Its already has reached that percentage in New York.
CDC and WHO are more concerned about what happens when it meets up in the southern hemisphere with H5N1 (Egypt had its first case this week where they are already having problems with Bird Flu (H5N1). If it should recombinant with H5N1, Oh Lord! The fact that they couldn't contain this "mild" virus what on earth will happen if a more virulent strain mutates from H1N1 and is borne into the world? I tell you at least WASH YOUR HANDS because that’s really the only amo we have right now! Vaccine coming soon – they hope by fall.
Does anyone really think that Alito would have been nominated had he said this:
"I would hope that a wise White man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina."
Uh, I don't think so.
Wow, bad day for celebrities -- first David Carradine, and now Danny Bonaduce. I guess Bonaduce's not as much of a surprise.
Richard Nixon just passed away.
I just died three minutes ago.
12,
So, based only on your "understanding society and politics" you are able to predict when specific groups will riot in response to the hypothetical uttering of certain words?
That is amazing.
And here I was worried you were simply talking out of your ass.
And I am shocked, shocked I say, to hear that an immigration activist had a disagreement with Lou Dobbs! Why, when the American people find out that an unrelated third party they've never heard of had a disagreement with a cable news pundit, they will definitely INSIST that Sotomayor not be confirmed...
Dave Gordon just fired Sonia Sotomayor.
You heard it here first.
19,
Wait, let me get this straight - Sotomayor is hispanic, and some other hispanic said stuff that I might not agree with while arguing with noted level-headed and rational tv pundit Lou Dobbs?!?
Down with Sotomayor!!! Only Tom Tancredo can save us!
SOOOOOOCIAALISM!!!!
*waits for Republicans to overwhelmingly return to power on the basis of this effective and rational public outreach... yes, any minute now.... any minute...*
Sotomayor just ate David Carradine.
Did she eat him in his entirety, like a good capitalist would, or did she share him with others in a terrifying example of SOOOOCIALISM!!!
Say what you will, but Robert Bork would have made like a praying mantis and ate every last bite of Carradine.
Freedom is now over. Game over.
Who would Osama vote for?
Wow, liberals are slow.
I said La Raza would be rioting.
Janet Murguia -- the fascist -- is head of La Raza.
If you want to see La Raza's apoplexy, the Dobbs debate is your best source.
After you watch that, it might be easier for you to see how Kuh-RAZY they would have been if Alito said he was brighter than a Latinia.
AGAIN: What does a liberal think would happen if Alito had said the quote in 15?
We didn't misunderstand that you said La Raza would be rioting. You just haven't provided any evidence in support of that notion. You've instead based that prediction on your "understanding society and politics", and surely your expert understanding must be based on facts and other analogous occurrences... so please share.
Again, we know who Murguia is. The question is what does her rant have to do with Sotomayor? This feels like even more of a stretch than the most recent guilt by association attempt Obama = Everything Bad Wright Said = the end of America.
None of it has to do with Sotomayor. You're just parading around a brown lady who said inflammatory stuff while arguing with noted level headed tv pundit Lou Dobbs (shocking, I know), and somehow expecting the public to somehow care when talking about Sotomayor.
Aside from the fact that Sotomayor knows Murguia, and that Sotomayor and Alito both acknowledge the obvious fact that life experiences inform view points - just why is it that Sotomayor shouldn't be confirmed?
You keep saying there would be riots if the tables were turned (a conclusion based on all that supporting evidence you'll be providing), are you trying to suggest there should therefore be white riots now?
It's not that we don't understand what you're saying... it's that what you're saying doesn't make any sense.
We had a similar outbreak earlier this week at the Moakley Courthouse (1st Cir./ USDC- Mass.). All employees recieved an email about the situation and were told that the court performed "hospital grade" cleaning of the contaminated areas. The Court's health center also sent out an email, but so far, the Court remains open and I have not heard of any new cases over the past two days, so I assume the cleaning works. Best wishes to the NY DAs.
"In light of these diagnoses our Office will conduct a cleaning in the Criminal Court Bureau to help curtail the virus' spread. "
Like the DOE, these thorough cleanings are occurring to reassure the public although these viruses don't remain active on surfaces for more than brief periods.

26 FTW
26: "what you're saying doesn't make any sense."
Most things don't make sense to liberals. That's why they are prone to violence, rioting, and joining al Qaeda.
BTW, 30 = 26.
And 26 = Janet Murguia.
Keeping yourself clean should have been taught at home, but for some it takes a virus and a public health anouncement! Some here still hitting the ingnore, snore or think H1N1 is a bore are the ones that never wash their hands! WASH EM GUYS for the Love of Humanity!
Elie - forget the chicken soup, Robitussin, and Sprite and just wash your hands. You can do it! You really can!
It seems as though this is a case of the pigs coming home to roost in the Bronx DA's office...
"When this happens at a school, they close the school and bring in a lot of soap."
Not true, and it wouldn't help anyway.
A DA's office is not like a school or a private law firm. ADAs aren't children, nor are they particularly at risk to a minor virus. Plus, the DA's office is open every day of the year. Unlike a firm, DA's offices deal with daily pressure to get defendants to court; it's not like police are going to stop arresting because a couple DAs have the flu.
#34, you clearly have no personal experience with the Bronx DA. Sorry you have so much time on your hands after finishing your 1L finals.
