"Like everybody else, I simply don't know what to say about this."

Look, the guy's parents belonged to the CC club or had a backyard pool.

Or he has an overarching sense of humor.

Mad props to Elie for actually linking to something critical of The One and The Two, Elie's beloved Harold Koh.

And double props to Elie for deigning to mention The One's middle name.

As long as we're on the subject of hypocrisy, it's appropriate to remind everyone how defiant The One was whenever anybody, especially Republicans, spoke his middle name. But, of course, it's perfectly acceptable to emphasize your middle name and Muslim heritage when pandering to Muslims in Egypt.

Elie, I do give you credit for actually mentioning the signing statements. Right now it's you, Volokh and maybe Drudge. Forget the MSM.

Sotomayor is still a bigot.

Let's see ... signing statements ... continuing many of Pres. Bush's national security policies (though he says otherwise) ... continuing Clinton's Don't Ask Don't Tell policy ... refusing to disclose visitor logs ... the list goes on and on.

Guess his slogan should have been "More of the Same You Can Believe In."

Honestly I'm not surprised by Obama's about faces on a few key issues. Being the president is fundamentally different from being a senator from Illinois. If you believe everything ANY politician promises you I have a nice bridge for sale in Brooklyn...

I can't believe I'm about to defend Obama. I really do dislike the man and his policies, but...

I don't see how Obama's being hypocritical here. Obama never once said he would not use signing statements. What he did was promise he would not use them "as an end run around Congress". He has also suggested that he would use them if he was presented bills with unconstitutional provisions. So far, his signing statements have either been wholly rhetorical (no end run around Congress) or have been used the way most Presidents have used them: to assert Executive power by insisting that some provisions of the bill are infringements on the Executive, and thus unconstitutional.

You could make the argument that the President's obstruction of Congressional attempts to pass unconstitutional legislation is not an "end run around Congress", but an Executive duty (e.g., the Take Care Clause). I'm quite certain that would be Obama's position, anyhow.

This doesn't mean Obama's constitutional interpretations in his signing statements are sound, but they don't have to be -- all this is required to wash out the hypocrisy claim is that Obama think that they are sound.

Anyone who voted for Obama in the belief that he wouldn't do stuff like this was an idiot.
