Sarah Palin To Resign as Alaska Governor
Governor Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, announced today that she is resigning as governor of Alaska on July 25.
“We know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time on another scale and actually make a difference for our priorities,” said Palin. Check out her full statement here (PDF).
Palin may not be a lawyer, but she’s definitely a client. She owes more than $500,000 to the Alaska law firm of Clapp, Peterson, Van Flein, Tiemessen & Thorsness, which has defended her against various ethics complaints. Paying off her debt shouldn’t be a problem, thanks to the (surely lucrative) book deal negotiated for her by Williams & Connolly super-agent Robert Barnett (who spoke to ATL last September, when his firm hired appellate superstar Kannon Shanmugam).
We wish Governor Palin the best of luck in her future endeavors. Hopefully she will remain on the national stage for years to come.
Update: According to the New York Times, legal bills played a significant role in Palin’s decision to step down.

FIRST to say this is step 1 in her running for President...
Random attack on Sarah Palin on a legal blog? weak.... and I don't even like Palin. Why don't you save this for your own personal blog, it clearly has nothing to do with the law.
First?
I'm missing a few things here. How does this help her future presidential candidacy?
Something's fishy.
3, I'm not saying it helps. I'm just saying I think it played a part in her decision.
Lat isn't attacking Palin. He is on record as supporting her:
http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/09/david_lats_exhillaryites_for_p.php
I readily concur.
Resigning mid term is costly to the taxpayers of Alaska and disruptive. I'm no Sarah Palin fan, but this is a terrible move.
It's hard to raise a retard baby
"Hopefully she will remain on the national stage for years to come."
I hope you're saying this as a publicity-hound, Lat. I would hate to think you're a fan of that horrid woman.
#8: "It's hard to raise a retard baby"
#9: "I would hate to think you're a fan of that horrid woman."
Fascinating juxtaposition.
Thought this blog wasn't updating today.

You know what the title of her book should be? "Yes, I Can If Baby Jesus Says It's OK". 'Cause Baby Jesus calls the shots for all of those guys. Did you get to the part yet where uh... Sarah is coming out of the Copa... it's about 3 o'clock in the morning and, uh, she sees Baby Jesus? Baby Jesus is walking down Broadway by himself...

"I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we passed the audition."
I think she's aiming for the white house in 2012. Like it or not, we're gonna be hearing her name quite often on the national level.
500k in debt? I guess she is really not a bad representation of America in general. I mean she can't manage her debt and she holds ideas that are completely retarded (cite: 'I can see Russia from Alaska and this gives me foreign policy experience)
I concur David Lat, as a Democratic I surely do hope that Sarah Palin remains on the national stage for years to come...
If only AK had a fee-shifting statute that would allow Palin to recover when these "ethics complaints" are dismissed as groundless, the Guv wouldn't need that book deal.
anyone thinking that this is the first step for running for pres in 2012 is honestly retarded or doesnt know the first thing about politics
If she wanted to run from prez in 2012, she would simply not run for re-election of governor in 2010 (i guess you just assumed everyone is elected on divide by 4 years?). Stepping down now is political suicide. How can ANYONE, let alone her own party EVER elect her for freakin PRESIDENT when she can't even stand the burdens and stresses of the red hot political pressure cooker known as alaska.
She's done. More done than sanford. She gave a big FU to her state, which she hasnt effectively been governing since getting the nod from mccain in 2008 anyway, so its not much of a loss for them.
Something is up. And its either some kind of sex scandal (ick) or something related to all those emails being released from mccain staffers just showing how grossly out of touch and arguably incompetent she is or maybe something even crazier.
I hope she's a good parent and at the very least can care for her kids, her personally life is a hot mess ever since she ran. Her own damn fault for accepting the nod though. I clearly dislike her, but I hope her reason for leaving is stupid (she can't take it) and not because of some family emergency. I never have ill will for any politician except Cheney.
Could anyone honestly believe this nutso was a potential candidate to be a heart beat away from president? God help us; it would have been our own personal Ahmadinejad.
cnn asked trig palin for comments
trig: aaaarrrrrggggggghhhhhhhnnnnnnnnnnntttttttttt
Ha! I wonder if she's going to become a Fox News commentator! That would be hilarious.
20's thoughTTT process - Sarah Palin is bad. Ahmadinejad is bad. Therefore, Sarah Palin and Ahmadinejad are the same!
However, I agree that if this is intended to be a 2012 jumpstart, it makes absolutely no sense.
-19
probably easier to collect PAC money that way.
She just quit on the people of Alaska. If she tries to run for pres in 2012, that is all she'll hear. She has no chance now .... I mean, not like she did in the first place.
You people really do fit the cliche of liberal (zombie) democrats, who just line-up to bash this woman. Here is a thought...get an original idea!
I say this as a Republican - Sarah Palin is a litmus test for whether the GOP grasps reality or not. As long as we consider her a serious presidential candidate, its clear that we don't.
Good riddance.
I have not posted on ATL in quite some time, but felt the need to do so after glancing over the posts in response to this story.
I am not a Palin fan, but the baseness of some of the comments posted here are deplorable. I know that the level of professionalism shown by the posters of comments on this site has diminished over the past year or two, but these reflect a childish hostility that reflects very poorly on the profession as a whole. I can only hope that these comments were made by site trolls and not by lawyers or soon-to-be lawyers. Attorneys should strive to set an example and maintain the respect for our profession through use of the utmost of civility in discourse. The "character" aspect of state bar admissions standards should not be lost.
Flame away if you must, but realize that doing so only provides further evidence that our profession no longer deserves the level of respect that it once held.
The Trig jokes are hilarious! Sarah Palin will never have credibility until she has her cervical muscle ring paralyzed and stretched open,a hollow plastic tube with a knife like edge on the tip inserted into her uterus and suction applied so that it tearsa baby’s body into pieces. But she's not done yet. She has to have a deeply rooted placenta pulled from the inner wall of the uterus with the scraps sucked out into a bottle Then she'll have the deep respect of those like 6/12 and David Letterman.
I'm a woman who is normally fairly sensitive about derogatory notions involving female genitalia and insensitive comments about the mentally ill. BUT #12's comment was too funny to deny it. My only amendment would be that the mentally ill child has never been proven to have made his entrance into the world through her gate and maybe someone finally got the hard evidence and so she had to step down. Either that or she just realized she has no idea what she's doing and in an effort to preserve her image for a presidential run, she had to get out before she did any major damage. Vote Palin bc when the going get's rough...she quits.
For those who think that Palin would have been a disaster as VP, are you aware of the clueless blowhard we have as VP now?
$1m offer to pose for Playboy in 3....2....1
29 - You must be incredibly fun at parties. Although, I suppose that the first step is to get invited to a party.
Something big was about to break that would have ruined her governor, so she resigned on the spur of the moment. Look at the facts.
1. She resigned in the middle of the day Pacific Time. That means it's harder for in depth coverage on the evening news.
2. She resigned on a Friday, before a holiday weekend, and right in the middle of the Michael Jackson coverage. That says she's trying to stay out of the news cycle, not ride it.
3. She didn't leak it to the national media, so no major media figures in AK.
4. She didn't announce any moves towards a presidential run, i.e. announcing the run, talking about an exploratory committee, sudden trips to IA or NH, etc.
5. Her statement reads like it was written five minutes before the announcement. It's full of incoherent, meaningless, political pap.
Moderator, please delete comment 29. Although jokes about retards and cunts which are directed at conservatives (see 30) are perfectly acceptable (and expected on this blog), any comments that describe in detail how babies are killed in the womb (and how such killing is celebrated by the left) are unacceptable.
@29 - I have no respect for you or your views. Please move to a different country. Thank you.
"We know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time on another scale and actually make a difference for our priorities," said Palin.
Wow. Even her pre-written, pre-vetted statements are full of confusing chains of prepositional clauses and misplaced modifiers. Elie's just writing on a blog. This moron is one of the top 5 national figures in the Republican Party.
Another republican here...
This really doesn't make sense. Something has to be going on. Quitting in the middle of your term, in the midst of a serious national economic downturn (can I say depression?), is not the sort of leadership anyone wants to see from a governor. It's almost as bad as a legislator voting "present" all the time.
I had my cervical muscle ring paralyzed and stretched open,a hollow plastic tube with a knife like edge on the tip inserted into my uterus and suction applied so that it tore my baby’s body into pieces. But I wasn't done yet. I had to have a deeply rooted placenta pulled from the inner wall of the uterus with the scraps sucked out into a bottle, which I drank. Good times.
33--Awesome post! You really put 29 in his/her place! You said "You must be incredibly fun at parties. Although, I suppose that the first step is to get invited to a party." That is FUNNY. ROTFL. Did you just think of that? Because it is F-U-N-N-Y! I would use that line alot on these blogs because it is so freakin funny! BRAVO to you! Maybe you can use it as a meme like Goat Herder or PE. The "You must be incredibly fun at parties. Although, I suppose that the first step is to get invited to a party." guy...
Dumbass.
Hey 37,
At least she doesn't need someone like me to help her all the time.
Barack Obama's Teleprompter
I cringe every time this moron opens her mouth.
40 = 12 year old who just learned about sarcasm. Keep working on it, buddy.
41, clearly you would do her no good given that even her pre-written statements (which would appear on your screen) are not written in proper English. That was the point.

36, How will 29 sleep tonight knowing that some stupid ass liberal has no respect for his/her views? I'm sure he/she is torn up inside like the fetus' being aborted all over this great country of ours!
Cheers
What's really interesting, particularly in light of the number of stupid things Palin actually says, is the fact that so many of you continue to focus your attacks on her family, particularly her special needs child. She may be unfit for high office, but so many of you are deeply defective human beings.
Special hat tip to 30, who is apparently so stupid that she does not know the difference between being mentally retarded and being mentally ill, perhaps because she so neatly embodies both concepts.

Love how 54 rushed to the defense of a fellow liberal because someone was mean to her on the internet, and disregarded the many posts mocking a special needs infant.
Leave it to a man (Lat) to think any old woman will do if it's "time" to have a woman in the WH. It's so faux progressive. And completely offensive to women, classifying us like that. Shame on you. (commenting here on his earlier comments someone posted, drooling all over Palin for VP).
Impossible to take anyone seriously who takes Palin seriously. That said, I do believe she won us the election, so was very happy to have her and her foot in her dumb mouth around for much of last year. Wouldn't be too happy to have her running for President again though, since it's a big risk: Bush got elected twice, after all (and now most of the people on this blog are blaming the Obama Administration for an economy that went down the toilet long before the Democrats were back).
Wow 64. That was quite possibly the most poorly written blog comment of any blog...anywhere...ever. Congrats. It's hard to take you serious when you can't form a complete, coherent sentence.
48-52 and 57-62 here. Sorry about the multiple posts. I just got on the Internets and am still learning about all the buttons and knobs and stuff.
65 is the next in a long line of ATL posters who make glaring grammatical errors right in the middle of sentences criticizing other posters for poor writing. "It's hard to take you serious . . . ." Nice one.
67 is the next in a long line of ATL posters who make glaring grammatical errors right in the middle of sentences criticizing other posters for poor writing. "...glaring grammatical errors right in the middle...." Nice one.
@29 and @45 - seriously leave now. This country doesn't need people like you. Go listen to your Toby Keith in your jacked up 4x4, cry when you think about baby Jesus, jack off to pictures of Sarah Palin, then leave. Seriously, I thought Sherman took care of you people during the Civil War.
68, ??? (Hint: there's no error in the quoted portion of 67's post.)
I didn't think much of this story until reading comment 34 - these are very interesting observations, and indeed suggest that she expected some revelation to force her to resign shortly. I would love to speculate at the content of whatever revelation she is dodging.
In any event, her resignation is terrible news for the Democratic party. Nothing would go further to ensure another Obama term than Palin on the Republican ticket in 2012.
I really hope Palin's presidential ambitions are done as in my informal straw poll of friends who are independent minded voters universally saw her as a negative on the GOP ticket. She may still have a place in the republican party after this but not as a national candidate. The timing does seem incredibly strange and I bet we will learn the rest of the story in the coming weeks. And if ya'll are going to insult her personally rather than her policies, feel free to do so but please keep her baby out of it.
69--If leaving the country (seriously) makes you happy, then I'm staying!! Can I move in with you? We can read the bible together (Leviticus has some awesome verses). Hey, if you send me your contact info, I'll make a donation in your honor to the NRA. Gotta get back to listening to my Toby Keith and jacking off to Sarah Palin (or is it the other way around?)
Cheers you narrow minded homophobic Jew hater.
70, 68 here. Look again. grammatical is misspeled. Duh.
68/74, is this some kind of stupid flame?
75--Stupid is defined as lacking or marked by lack of intellectual acuity, and flame is defined as a searing e-mail or newsgroup message in which the writer attacks another participant in overly harsh, and often personal, terms. What was the question again?
@73 your post makes no sense. You're all Captain Conservative and then you drop the homophobe charge. Just FYI Leviticus, Palin, and Toby Keith are all anti-gay.
69, I don't know if you are still out there--but I think that although we disagree on a number of things (Country Music, Sarah Palin's intelligence, and so on) I think we can at least agree that Roe v. Wade should be overturned and all abortions outlawed. I'm glad we at least agree on that. Hopefully we can use that as a bridge to narrow some of our other differences.
Jesus Loves You.
@78 don't put words in my mouth. Good luck trying to sneak that in there but no dice. The Khmer Rouger was meant for people like you.
77, what's your point?
@80 it's contradictory you moron.
not to get off topic 77 but please link to some support that toby keith is anti-gay. all i can find is circumstantial evidence that (1) he is a democrat and (2) he said in a interview that "it does not bother him one bit" if gays get married.
BTW 78--One more thing. Not only was Roe v. Wade correctly decided, they didn't go far enough. Once we get Sotomayor (and hopefully 3-4 more when Obama is re-elected, and Biden or Hillary in 2016), we will do away with all this first-second-third trimester BS and (thank God) have a single bright line test--women will have the right to terminate their preganancy at any time, AND also have the right to humanely euthanize their children until the child is no longer dependent on the mother (e.g., age 5).
Oh, And we we also outlaw the death penalty as being inhumane.
So suck it 78!
--79
It's a paradox... full of contradictions. It defies a log-i-cal ex-pla-natioooonnn!!!
81--You are a contradictory. In your face. Booyah.
Everyone who has posted on this thread is an idiot. Total idiot. All of you. Idiots. Every damn one of you. Complete idiots.
86 here,
Me excepted, of couse :)
I gotta go with 86 on this one. The interweb has officially hit a new low, which is really saying something. In a weird way, though, I'm glad I was some small part of it.
I'm a Republican, though no fan of Palin. I thought she looked like a good veep choice on paper, but was plainly not ready for prime time. However, the hatred she induces on the left is kind of shocking. The mainstream left seems to hate her infinitely more than any of the nutcases on the fringe ever hated Bush or than the far right crowd hates Obama.
And for what? Seriously, explain it to me. Simply not thinking she was qualified to be VP or that she's stupid is not a valid explanation for this level of hatred.
THANK YOU 88! Today's posts were brought to you by Powdermilk biscuits. Powdermilk biscuits give shy persons the strength they need to get up and do what needs to be done. Made from whole wheat raised by Norwegian bachelor farmers, so you know they're not only good for you, they're pure, mostly. Get 'em in the bright blue box with a picture of a biscuit on the front, or ready-made in the brown bag with the dark stains that indicate freshness. Heavens they're tasty, and expeditious.
89--The answer is simple. Liberals feel threatened by her. If she were really as vapid and dumb as they say she is, they'd ignore her (they way we ignore Biden).
Comment removed by moderator.
91 - not afraid of Palin as an individual. Afraid of people like you (the sad, stupid masses) as parts of a mob that actually thinks nitwits like Bush and Palin are capable of effective governance, never mind decent or humane governance. She is as vapid and dumb as she seems, just as I'm sure you're every bit as vapid and dumb as you seem.
93 - That doesn't respond to the original question. Not liking her policies is not a rational reason to hate someone as much as you purport to.
Also, mobs don't have parts, they have members. finally, vapid is not synonymous with dumb. It means dull, tedious, lifeless, boring, etc.
89
If I think the movie Bruno is funny, does that make me a gay hater or a homophobe?
--Conflicted in San Fran
91: You're going to have to do better than calling Bush and Palin stupid. Ineffective governance isn't an exclusive Republican franchise, though we've quite well for ourselves of late. Nor is being vapid a purely Republican trait. Do you ever listen to Nancy Pelosi?
Now, while we Republicans fight amongst ourselves and work on purging all moderates from the party, thus relegating ourselves to a decade of irrelevance, the country gets to watch what happens when Democratic power is largely unchecked.
Current Democrats lead with no understanding of unintended consequences, and honestly believe that the government that brought you Fannie and Freddie can fix the financial system. After rightfully lambasting Bush for his financial record, they make Bush look like Ebenezer Scrooge.
Sit back and watch the show. We Republicans will be too busy committing fratricide to be of any use.
I never thought I'd miss Bill Clinton.
I miss BIll Clinton too (and Jenny Craig).
- M. Lewinsky.
93, First of all, the fact that you admit that you are afraid of me (fakes punch at 93 and 93 flinches!) makes my post worth it! Second, it is a proven fact (Survey of American Historical Society) that George W. Bush is the 4th Greatest President in American History:
1. Abraham Lincoln
2. George Washington
3. Ronald Reagan
4. W.
5. FDR
Cheers!
94: thanks for all the corrections, nitwit. I really thought vapid meant dumb, that's why I wrote vapid and dumb: because I meant to write dumb and dumb. And yes, you can be part of a mob.
Grammar and spelling inanities aside:
One of the best reasons I can think of for hating someone personally is that the person believes she should have the right to make decisions for me based on hypocritical, uninformed personal beliefs that are ultimately dangerous and harmful to society as a whole. Not that I ever claimed to personally hate her in the other post, but now that you mention it...
This is irrelevant. Posting on a blog full of anti-choice, free-market, pro-Palin commenters with overblown egos and mediocre minds has just run its course.
100th to say Palin ROCKS!
99--Sotomayor is Pro-Life. Does that matter to you?
Obama and Palin are TTT . . . Marshall Skadden 2012
99 - Still wrong about mobs, but whatever.
Good boilerplate about getting the government out of your bedroom too. However, it seems that the rational response to views that you find "ultimately dangerous and harmful" is to vote against them. The difference between rational intelligent people on both sides of the political spectrum and people like you is that we feel that the democratic process resolves these issues and we don't have to spend our lives thinking about how hateful and stupid half the country and how righteous and awesome our half of the country is.
I can see Mexico from my house...
89 - I think the visceral hatred stemmed not from her being such a dumb fuck and clearly thoroughly unsuitable as the free world's No. 2; it came from how massively popular she was on the right despite these qualities, and from the (it seemed) very real chance that 51% of the country was going to inflict her on the rest of us for four or eight years.
Yeah, going back to the Toby Keith thing, he is indeed very socially liberal. At least in regards to gay marriage. Many prominent country musicians are (Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney as well, if I'm not mistaken)- but of course they keep that fact pretty well hidden.
Thank you, 18. Exactly right.
Bribery/ethics/sex scandal revelation in 3... 2... 1...
Personally, my fear of her stems from a belief that she was the first person in recent memory who came close to the White House that would make important decisions based solely on religion. She had an obvious disdain for actual knowledge, and that wouldn't be so bad if she didn't replace it with her religous views.
There have been religous men in the White House, of both parties, but none, at least in my understanding, who would look a scientist or other educated person in the eye and say something like this -
"I hear you, but I think God says something different, so I am going to assume that you are engaged in a massive conspiracy to falsify your evidence, and therefore I am going to make important decision X based on my own personal religous beliefs (which I deep down believe should be inflicted on everyone for their own good)."
That is my problem with her anyway.
106, are you for real?? 60% of ALL Aamericans support gay marriage - You Redumbicans think that is an extreme position! That's why you will NEVER have a majority in Congress in our lifetimes... So stupid, so stupid - no wonder Airhead Palin is your heroin/heroine.
Re....dumbicans? God help the country.
110: "60% of ALL Americans support gay marriage"
Which is why Prop 8 passed in one of the most liberal states in the union, right?
Her crazy resignation speech suggests a woman who is cracking up. She is panicky, wild-eyed, gasping for breath and acting as if she is being hunted down. She talks about the media a lot and how they're out to get her. She is basically saying that as long as she is in office she is roadkill, and she's probably right.
Prediction: she will get her own talk show, amass a large right wing audience and become an influential media force like Rush Limbaugh. Then she will either make a bid for the White House as the ultimate maverick and government outsider or will galvanize a movement to overthrow the government.
I'm not kidding. That's the real Sarah Palin. A secessionist. People underestimate the magnitude of anger and rage out there because Obama won and the government is taking a left turn. You can be sure Palin will capitalize on their hatred of the government.
The hatred of Sarah Palin, at its core, stemmed from the fact she was a happy, successful woman who hadn't long since grown bitter at life and humanity; and the fact that she got where she was without paying any deference to the left.
The Dems are only for the little guys and women when they spout liberal talking points. Otherwise, they're hicks and sluts who must be stopped and destroyed at all costs.
114 - you are a moron
No. The dislike for Sarah Palin on both sides of the aisle comes from the fact that she is ignorant of the critical issues facing our nation and does not measure up to her peers when it comes to qualifications, experience, or eloquence.
Her appeal is a sick form of populism, an us vs. them mantra, void of any substance or inspiration but high on victimization and self-righteousness. Conservatives deserve better leadership. The next coming of Reagan she is not.
Kristol must be self-medicating to throw his support behind this voice crying out in the wilderness. She heralds no promise for a brighter future, only a stumble deeper into the woods.
Sarah Palin's retarded fetus should have been aborted.
Obama uses a teleprompter.
Um... I think the liberals win that round
- A proud republican
P.S. (Are there really people posting on this site that think anyone cares about thier views on abortion -- I hope more babies are killed to improve the economy. And, again, I am saying this a Republican)
117, early-stage fetuses are balls of cells, not "babies." I lump in early-stage abortion with birth control. Neither should be a moral issue at all unless you're a religious nut.
#34 is correct in all his assumptions and I thank him for listing his points, all worth considering. It did seem to be hasty, too hasty to have been thought out in advance. Now, let's let the poor woman alone.
If she gets the nomination in 2012 I will be voting for a third party. . .
i agree with 29. i am not really going to accept her as a candidate until she agrees that it is okay to use a forcep to pry a baby out of a womb, jab a hollow tube into the brain of a baby, use a screw to scramble the brains, then suck the scrambled brains into a jar, and then finally yank the dead carcass out of the mother. i firmly believe it is every american's right to do this to the unborn. especially even when the baby is viable. BUT, and this is where sarah and I disagree, BUT, i do not believe that water should be poured over someone's head that attempted to kill hundreds of innocent people with a bomb. that is morally wrong.
114 is absolutely correct. Just look how they treated Hillary Clinton.
Wow there is someone out there with worse grammar usage than Mystall.
nice to see the best and brightest young minds in action here -
jeeesh!
Why don't you all leave Palin's children out of it - though she parades them around WHEN it suits her agenda,
and concentrate on her own failings or strengths?
If I were an Alaskan, I would be super pissed. Didn't they just elect her, like barely over two years ago? Had they know she wouldn't hang around to do all the little things that come with being elected, like serving out a term, I seriously doubt they would have considered her.
What an incredibly selfish act. "Me, me, me, it's all about me". Government service is just that... serving government and the people who placed their trust in you.
116-
Sarah Palin is a second tier public school grad who's made some pretty stupid statements about international politics and, while she was the only person in the last election with executive experience, probably isn't much of genius in other respects.
That's a reason to argue she isn't fit for the position of VP. That neither explains nor justifies the visceral hatred of her.
Right now there is a University of Delaware grad who almost got kicked out of law school for plagiarizing, who has made spectacularly stupid statements about international affairs and world history, and who had to quit a presidential race previously for plagiarizing his speeches. This man wasn't John McCain's candidate for VP, he **is** the VP. He was your candidate for VP.
That guy hasn't had his e-mail hacked by Republicans. He hasn't had our side laughing at and making jokes about his kids, spouse, and family. He hasn't had us publicizing the video about his daughter discussing her coke habit (even though your side jumps at everything about Palin's daughter).
This didn't bring out Palin-level animosity on our side, and it sure as hell hasn't brought this sort of animosity on your side.
I certainly appreciate Democrats looking out for our best interests and I'd say liberals "deserve better leadership" than Biden, but to be honest, I don't think you do.
I love liberals. i can always get them to do what i want them to do. when there is something to do, and there are several choices, make sure its the easy choice. doesnt even have to be the right choice. as long as its easy, doesnt require them to think for themselves, or to take personal responsiblity, libertards will fall for it every time. i say long live the libs!!!!!
There is a divide in the democrat party that most are unaware. Sadly, gay rights and gay marriage is strongly opposed by most in the African American and Hispanic communities and union households. This is why President Obama is moving slowly on "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and other items on the LGBT agenda.
To my friends in the LGBT community, we must continue to communicate to those in the African American community that a man's right to insert his penis into the anus of another man, and his right to wear panties is morally equivalent to their civil rights struggle. Only then will those in the civil rights community come to embrace us as the full partners in the struggle.
Yeah, Palin could have been a real loser by going to law school, just like all the BigLaw losers who post here. Palin has withstood attacks the likes of which would wither almost anyone. She's been forced to defend herself with her personal funds against baseless charges continually being made by Dems or their henchmen. Personally, I think she would make a very poor choice for President, but the Dems should be ashamed of themselves for the way they've treated her. Of course, it's like pissing in the wind to think that Dem could be ashamed of anything.
I would certainly enjoy pounding Palin in the ass. Oh, what a nice ass for someone whose had so many kids.
128, your writing is atrocious. Where did you (not) learn?

perhaps she's gonna make a run for....canada, so as to avoid federal indictments?
Hopefully she is making this announcement on the eve of her attempting to tackle a bus moving at high speed.
A Conservative
What has happened to my Grand Old Party??????
MAVERICK!!!! MAVERICK!!!!
131, I did not learn in an inner city public school. You only criticize my lack of grammatical skills because you cannot deal with the truth of what I say.
Truth: Barney Frank = Rosa Parks
Remember Stonewall.
She must want to make money giving speeches and writing books, or else there's some scandal she is running away from. She has no chance of becoming President after this. She quit the people after a couple of years of being gov. of the rough and tumble state of Alaska because she couldn't take it. When the going get tough, the tough quit?
131 = Homphobe and Gay Hater. Shame on you.
138: It is homofobe. Moron.

As Kirkland & Ellis moves forward with their plans to have a magnificient 100th anniversary party -- which they are spending tons of money on -- it is reported that one of Kirkland's laid off staff members ended his life! He hung himself in the basement of his home. His blood is on their hands! May he rest now in peace!
I will say what the media won't say. Palin is an emotional wreck, a failure as a govenor, a failure as a parent and speaks like a retard. There I said it. And I'm glad I thank God she isn't VP today. Quitters never win the race. She couldn't stand the heat, so she got out of the kitchen. What a dip.
126, the difference between the treatment of VPs is due to the concern that McCain would die soon, and Palin would have become president.
126 -
Come on. You're being disingenuous. You're cherry-picking the worst parts of Biden's career and then equating them to the basic elements of Palin's character, and arguing that the two are therefore equivalent. Biden, for example, is widely understood to be a foreign policy expert. Palin says she is, too, because you can see Russia from her state. They're not in the same league.
As others have pointed out, Palin gets the extra vitriol largely because she is so demonstrably unqualified, and is so unapologetic about it -- yet the GOP nevertheless gives her the star treatment. Is is objectively terrifying that she is taken so seriously by so many people in this country.
I won't defend the Trig jokes or anything, but please don't play dumb and act like you can't understand why Palin brings out the worst in otherwise reasonable people. Her very presence on the national stage scares the shit out of people.
140 - "it is reported that one of Kirkland's laid off staff members ended his life! He hung himself in the basement of his home"
Please provide details.
The biggest question of all is why would anyone give up his/her own life for a law firm? Come on, snap out of it.
We're not talking about a cause here and these people are not your family. Just a mismanaged operation with a business model that is becoming obsolete.
people are intimidated by the stupidity of other people who believe she is a sound and rational person who is equipped to lead a nation of 400M people in the global world. And there are ALOT of them. That is good reason to be afraid.
143, why don't you read the full Palin-Gibson interview transcript before showing more of your ignorance. She mentioned Russia's proximity to Alaska because...wait for it...she was asked about Russia's proximity to Alaska. But you're right, mentioning true geographic facts is far worse than Biden claiming to have graduated with 3 college degrees (actually, just one BA), and graduated in the "top half" of his law school class on a full scholarship (if 76th out of 85 counts as top half, and a half scholarship is the same as a full scholarship). I guess reality has a well-known pro-Palin and anti-Biden bias.
GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they’re doing in Georgia?
PALIN: Well, I’m giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia.
So far in the news cycle of the last 24 hours, I haven't found any major media that has asserted unequivocally that this is a great move for her 2012 presidential run.
They just generally say that it_may_be a step towards her presidential run, and that this strategy has received support only among her small circle of support. Most people in the larger circles of Republicans (and other related right-leaning groups) are just plainly befuddled.
Someone please show me a strong argument why this helps her.
I tend to think she's just going to take a big $$$ job in the private sector in the lower 48.

OK, you said this awhile ago, but I've got to comment on it:
"(Are there really people posting on this site that think anyone cares about thier views on abortion -- I hope more babies are killed to improve the economy. And, again, I am saying this a Republican)"
Consider this Exhibit A for the fact that lawyers don't know jackshit about economics.

148-149. Actually it depends.
In countries like Sweden, Korea, Japan, where the birth rates don't even reach replacement rate (around 2.2 if i remember), they need more humans. (Except in times of recession.)
Most of the population growth in the U.S. comes from immigration. Note first of all, that our_legal_immigration policies favor the foreign rich, not the foreign poor. We're doing pretty well by this account. But this says nothing about the illegal immigration into this country.
Note also, in the U.S., more of the babies are being born to lower income families, not among the higher income families.
So yeah, typical bible-toting hicks are parenting alot of America's natural growth in population.
You tell me if that's a great thing.
About 40 million babies (aka balls of cells) have been cut up and torn from their mother's womb since 1973, The fact is that 65-70% of these abortions were by moderate/affluent white women and the rest by African Americans and Hispancs.
Don't think for a minute that abortion would still be legal if it was primarily the democrat's welfare constituency who were being aborted. Every kid on WIC is a future democrat voter. If the repugs were smart, they'd go hyper Roe v. Wade. I'm talking Chinese style. Are you a 17 year old who can't afford to support your kid? Welcome to the Nancy Pelosi Abortion Parlor and Pub.
151: Epic Fail
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/22/AR2008092202831.html
Try to get your facts straight. There are more white abortions because there are more whites, but if anything, abortions are acting to slow the growth of the minority population because it is at a higher RATE than for whites.
"You're cherry-picking the worst parts of Biden's career and then equating them to the basic elements of Palin's character, and arguing that the two are therefore equivalent. Biden, for example, is widely understood to be a foreign policy expert."
143-
When it comes to Biden saying spectacularly stupid things about international affairs and world history, I'm sorry, I'm not cherry picking at all. I'll be honest in that I didn't pay attention or witness him saying this many stupid things before he was nominated (though I was aware of the more famous incidents), but he has been saying a ton of stupid things since he was nominated last year. He's widely asserted to be a foreign policy expert on your side, but, on ours, our respect for the man was at the level that we were openly rooting for Obama to pick him.
To the extent somebody wants to say he's a foreign policy expert, they can legitimately point to the amount of years he's been involved in it. However, to the extent he's become adept at it or that this has given him some skill in this area, I've missed it. The man has a history of being on the wrong side of most of the major issues he's faced--off the top of my head, opposing Reagan's initiatives vis-a-vis the Soviet Union in the 80s and wanting to bail on Iraq and split it up into three countries in the middle of the insurgency (he also supported the war in Iraq, which I supported, but it always made it hard for me to understand why liberals wanted to tout his foreign policy judgment).
As far as plagiarism, again that wasn't a one time incident. I guess he was only caught twice, but that's twice more than most other major politicians; they weren't minor incidents; and they're a little hard for people to defend if they want to attack Palin's academic record.
You say you won't defend the Trig jokes. Okay, but that's what I'm getting at. I'll readily admit myself she's not the brightest bulb on the planet. This goes beyond that. It goes into a visceral, intense hatred that's much stronger than a "that's an incompetent politician" response.
"people are intimidated by the stupidity of other people who believe she is a sound and rational person who is equipped to lead a nation of 400M people in the global world."
Normally I wouldn't have a problem with this, but if ya want to accuse other people of stupidity, it's probably best not to get the population of the U.S. wrong by about 100 million.
The only way abortion will remain safe, legal and rare, is if we continue to fight for it. It is pretty well documented that Pro-Choice has been losing ground in the PR war such that just under a slight majority of Americans now consider themselves anti-choice. Obama could help by insisting on knowing where his Supreme Court nominees stand on the issue. There is some speculation, for example, that Judge Sotomayor is a stealth Pro-Life judge. If so, this would be a disaster for women and their right to decide matters concerning their body, in consultation with their doctor's.
For too long we have allowed good and decent abortion providers to be demonized. Obama could help these doctors by talking about the good they do, and also by showcasing their work--aborted fetuses in glass jars in the White House Blue Room. That is what convinced me to donate to NARAL--tiny dismembered fingers and limbs in a glass jar.
152--Wow--so you are advocating that we speed up abortions in the minority communities. It is people like you who are unnamed co-conspirators in the death of Dr. Tiller.
You, sir, are a racist, and a genocidal one at that.
Good day sir. I said, Good day.
Steve McNair just died.
156- who I assume is 151-
Your reading comprehension is something to be marveled at. I hope you didn't spend much on schooling.
Not only that but your premise makes no sense- why would I (supposedly) advocate abortions and then plot to kill an abortion doctor. You need some help.
-152
No one WANTS to get an abortion. If someone is getting an abortion, then it means something is VERY WRONG with their life, health, or the health of the fetus. It is not like anyone is proud or happy to do it. Making it illegal doesn't solve anything, because women who want it will still get it, but now you have made it so they are doing it with clothes hangers in a dangerous setting. Trying to make it rare through education is a good strategy, but there will ALWAYS be a need for it - but those are the tragic cases, and the burden of having an abortion is enough without trying to throw the mother or the doctor in jail on top of it.
If I win the Michael Jackson memorial service ticket lottery drawing, is it in bad taste to try to EBAY the tickets?
Seriously? I don't want to go, but would it be wrong to sell them for a couple g's a piece?

159--That's my point. The Pro-Choice community needs to glamorize abortions so women WANT to get pregnant just to have abortions! That's how we strengthen Planned Parenthood and NARAL. We need to get the best from Madison Ave. working on it. Once upon a time, smart admen were able to work magic for tobacco companies. But they didn't advertise lung cancer--Duh! No, they showed how smoking Winston's makes you cool, hip and sophisticated. We need to bring that kind of thinking to abortion!
Hi Carol, you're looking great..did you just get a haircut?
No, Kandi, I just had an abortion and I feel great!
Wow, you're lucky. I keep asking Rick to knock me up, so I can have a fetus sucked from my womb, but, you know Rick--He loves the condom!
CAMERA GOES OUT OF FOCUS, as narrator intones:
Pelosi Abortions--Why carry for 9 months when an abortion today, sets you up for an abortion next month? Pelosi Abortions--take the life of your kid for the time of your life!
159, I'm against abortion, but I would have made an exception in your case.
Dave Gordon of Latham NY
please do everyone a favor and do a sarah palin
Palin/Guiliani 2012
121,
Spot on. That is an exactly correct analysis of what liberals believe. All of them. You are razor sharp.
Does the Latham NY bar failing partner's son have a 3500 square foot wife?
A hatefuck threesome with Palin and Michelle Bachmann would be incredibly satisfying.
166--If you are not in favor of abortion on demand, then you are not a true progressive, and you are not welcome in my Democrat party. I suggest you go register at your nearest RNC office. Good riddance to you.
Poor woman
The nuisance that the New England liberals are have driven this lady from govt work.
I love you guys. There are few things more incredible than a bunch of lawyers anonymously arguing and throwing across their views on abortion, Sarah Palin, et al. It's the sandbox all over again.
If she were liberal, Letterman would be fired and news media would be called sexist, feminist groups would be crying for revolution ... but she is not a blind "progressive" so it's okay to insult and demean her. But let's be honest, is this type of perpetual hypocrasy even surprising anylonger; after all, liberal elites know what we want, need and what's best for the rest of the us in the world better than we do ourselves
Since everyone things it's okay not only to bash Palin but her family as well, I will just say that Barack Obama's daughters are nappie headed ho's...
173. You know the criticisms and jokes re Palin's family are related to bona fide news items for the most part.
Try that tack instead.
Bullshit 174--calling Trig a retard is not related to a bona fide news item. I am a moderate Democrat, but some of the crap I hear from far left entertainers makes my very uncomfortable. I pray to God we are able to keep a lid on this type of shit, because if civil society breaks down, they have all the guns...
104- you made reading this whole thread worthwhile. Thanks for the laugh.
And where's the "this is good news for John McCain" guy/ gal?
The arguments in favor of permitting abortion make no sense.
Preganancy is not something that just happens. You have to have sex to get pregnant. Don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex. It is entirely within someone's control. So except for fetal deformity or rape, there is no good reason for an abortion.
And this argument of "well, women will get abortions anyway." Murderers still kill, even though murder is outlawed. Does that mean we should repeal the laws against murder, because it will happen anyway.
I can't even believe this is a discussion. Take any milf, redneck cunt and throw her onto the 2012 GOP ticket. All Palin has is a journalism degree from some shit school (and she hates journalism), was the mayor of some little shithole, and served 1/2 of a shittier term as governor for a foreign country. Why not Carrie Prejean? She's probably just as qualified and hotter!
Abortions are bad.
Palin is hot.
And Obama makes me wish W were still in charge.
That is all.
Down syndrome ---> retard. This was a news item back in the day.
I think when people use the word retard, they're not using the clinical definition or something out of DSM-IV. So chill just a bit.
I'm not approving of these jokes. But what can you do, especially when these jokes relate to the news items of the day?
Late night comics will do this across the political spectrum. I doubt they're going to incite civil unrest.
If you live in fear of that, it's time for you to move.
It's amazing how you guys turned this into an abortion debate. Yet another topic where people will just argue endlessly.
While you're at it, you should talk about how selecting Palin for the VP slot was basically McCain practicing Affirmative Action.
Someone please take the bait and blowup. 300 comments baby!
173, lol.
+1, 173
180, what the hell are you talking about? You seem a tad paranoid. Stocking your panic room, are we?
180 was responding to 175...
177 - The arguments in favor of condoms make no sense.
STDs and preganancy are not things that just happen. You have to have sex to get an STD or pregnant. Don't want to get an STD or pregnant, don't have sex. It is entirely within someone's control. Therefore, there is no good reason for condoms.
186 -- using condoms doesn't kill a human being.
What this discussion has turned into reminds me of the Monty Python song, Every Sperm is Sacred. “Every sperm is sacred. Every sperm is great. If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUspLVStPbk
P.S. I aborted a load of possibly viable sperm into a Kleenex this morning and it felt great. I’m pretty sure my girlfriend is a baby killer too by virtue of her being on the pill. I mean, think of all those zygotes that were unable to implant themselves into the lining of her uterus!
146 -
Gibson didn't ask her about Alaska's proximity to Russia for the hell of it. He asked that question precisely because the Palin campaign volunteered that fact as her main foreign policy question. They said that she was qualified because Russia is next door. So Gibson simply asked a logical followup -- how does Russia's proximity make you qualified?
You are foolish to cite that followup question as evidence that the media created the issue in the first place.
This doesn't make me ignorant and it doesn't make Palin qualified to opine on foreign policy. She's a lightweight.

190: hmmm...that attorney seems to go into great detail about something that's "not a legal problem." Does AK have and Anti-SLAPP statute, does anyone know? If her attorney says this is "actionable" and tries it, under California law at least, Ms. Palin would be looking at paying the blogger's attorneys' fees for this obvious b.s. She's looney and her attorney is, too. Public Figure means that Palin must prove all the elements of defamation, plus that the statements are false, plus "actual malice" by the people publishing it. Actual malice means that the publishers either new the statement was false or had reckless disregard for whether the statement was true or false. I think he miscalculated and this will bring even more attention to the allegations he mentions.
173--that was probably the best post in the whole discussion. I am totally going to steal that quote from now on
Palin was the one who had that reasonable, well thought out comment about Hillary,
saying you can't be perceived to whine or play the victim card when you get treated worse by the press then men.
You just have to accept that and work harder.
So how did she somehow turn into a professional victim?
She went so far this morning as to say no-one else would endure speculation about resigning midterm except her - others do it all the time -
but c'mon others do it for obvious reasons - winning the presidency- or they explain their actions!
Playing the victim card is idiotic!
You only want to see her as playing the victim card. No one else's children have endured the venim that her children have had to endure from day one. I don't see her playing the victim card, but, she is female, so apparently there are no rules and she is fair game. I see this resignation as her freeing herself to say whatever she wants, whenever she wants, however she wants and I truly look forward to it because no one has been able to put people in their place quite like her and I look forward to the fun.:o)
@ 165 - Palin/Guiliani 2012 = Pitbull Soccer Mom/Daffy Duck
Nice.
I love the Big G and his 9/11 rhetoric...but his lisp (listhp) make for great debates.
I am psyched for the unintentional comedy...and SNL seconds my motion.
196: Would you put your unwed, pregnant teenage daughter out in front of the cameras on the national stage to be the object of scrutiny and tabloid talk? I wouldn't humiliate my child like that for anything, much less a remote shot at VP. I feel for the children - their mom put them in that position. Besides, SP has ALWAYS said whatever she wants; being Gov never stopped that.
What would Scalia say about this?
198: The abuse of her daughter started before she went on any stage. And you know I find it amusing that people act like Bristol Palin is the only teenager who had sex and got pregnant. Geeeeeeeze... I thought you all were the progressives. Guess NOT.
200: How so? No one but Alaskans knew SP's family prior to her selection for VP when she then put her family on stage with her. It was after that that Bristol's pregnancy was discovered by an inquisitve press. Sure, lots of teens have sex and become pregnant - but how many have moms on the national stage touting family values and advocating the merits of abstinence? SP was doing that already knowing her daughter was pregnant. The problem's not the daughter, but the deceitful, hypocritical mom.
189, um, no, Gibson asked her about Russia because Russia was very much in the news at that time because of the war with Georgia, and Gibson himself recognized that Russia is near the United States.
GIBSON: Let me ask you about some specific national security situations.
PALIN: Sure.
GIBSON: Let’s start, because we are near Russia, let’s start with Russia and Georgia.
The administration has said we’ve got to maintain the territorial integrity of Georgia. Do you believe the United States should try to restore Georgian sovereignty over South Ossetia and Abkhazia?
But whatever you say. The reality of what actually happened is wrong. We have always been at war with Eastasia. Palin and Gibson should never have talked about the number one national security concern that week and how Russia and the US are so close.
201, Obama put his kids on the national stage, no? What percentage of Americans knew of Malia before?
203: That's right - and lots of folks (like 173) say disparaging things about them, too, but you don't see Obama quitting, do you?
If only we could go back in time and abort Latham NY's OMP
Could anyone honestly, truly say that they expected Palin to quit on Friday? The answer is No. She is a Maverick. A true American Maverick.
Hey David - Palin thinks being gay is a lifestyle choice.
Does that level of ignorance bother you?
She is a complete moron and represents what is wrong with conservatism in America today.
No presidential ticket "puts their family" or "puts their kids" on the national stage. And to criticize anyone for doing so it utterly ridiculous. The national stage finds the family, not the other way around.
Billy Carter got his own beer for Christ's sake. It's called Billy Beer. Yet, nobody blamed Carter for putting Billy Carter on the national stage. And guess what? "Nobody had heard of [Billy Carter] before [Jimmy]."
Lol at calling an "inquisitive press" hundreds of reporters literally living outside Palin's Alaska house for months.
208: Well, SP actually literally put her pregnant daughter on a stage in front of a national audience, but the point is that when you CHOOSE to be a candidate, you have to accept that level of intense scrutiny and if you already know you have skeletons you'd rather hide, well then, maybe being a candidate isn't the best thing to do. It's the way it works and everyone in politics knows that - except SP, apparently. Somehow, she seems to think that she's exempt from responsibility for her choice to become a candidate and all the accompanying attention and probing that brings. She doesn't have what it takes to withstand that - she quits, instead.
204: No Obama is not a quitter, he is busy destroying the economy to feed his ego. By the way, is there a class he can take that would teach him how to speak for 5 minutes without a teleprompter. What would one expect from a President who never ran a corner store.
YOU GUYS ARE ALL LOSERS GO OUT AND ENJOY THE OUTDOORS! MY ONLY EXCUSE IS BARBRI.
Could someone explain the teleprompter thing to me. Don't pretty much all presidents use a teleprompter? And what exactly is supposed to be wrong with using one?
"Don't pretty much all presidents use a teleprompter?"
They do.
All presidents are not exulted in their speaking, uplifting, and unifying ability to the extent Barack Obama is.
Given the difference in his performance when he's in front of a teleprompter and his fumbling around when he isn't in front of one, we just enjoy pointing out how much of his charisma and speeches consist merely of reading off this.
"but the point is that when you CHOOSE to be a candidate, you have to accept that level of intense scrutiny and if you already know you have skeletons you'd rather hid"
And if you don't have skeletons in your closet, liberals will just go after your friends, kids, family, associates, ancestors, colleagues, former friends, roommates, basketball teammates, rummage through your trash can, hack your e-mail, or just make shit up until they find something.
This is all necessary to stop those mean-spirited Republicans... who don't care about hicks....errrrr, I mean the little guy.
-
"She was asking for it officer! She shouldn't wear such short skirts if she didn't expect me to do that!"
DAAAAAAAAVVVEEE GOOOORRRDDDOOOONNNNNN!!!!!! (of latham ny)
Why did Dave Gordon go from Cornell UG to Syracuse Law School? Syracuse is a TTT. Did you bomb the lsat Davey boy?
Long live Michael Jackson, the King of Pop!
If Latham NY was well diversified then why did Dave Gordon need to lay off 130 (or 45% of) Latham NY associates this year? Wouldn't Dave need them to do all the work that continues to come in during a downturn since Latham NY is well diversified? Laying off 45% of Latham NY associates seems a bit drastic for such a well diversified firm.
If she wasn't fuckable, no one would have paid any attention to her. Dumb as a rock.
They don't have many black people in Alaska, so Palin wants OUT of America.
219: What? You jealous you ain't:o)
@214:
right. Republicans would NEVER dig up a candidate's friends, associations, or otherwise assail anything only collaterally about a candidate...
unless he palled around with terrorists.
Huckabee himself just said if she thinks it's gonna be easier being a candidate when members of your own party "spend millions to redefine" you she's in for a sorry wake up.
Anyone else think it's legally hilarious that on the 4th of July she had her lawyer send out a rambling several page legal threat that they'll sue the entire internet for talking smack?
Gee, Sarah, maybe if you'd given a reason the media wouldn't need to speculate!
first
[fat illterate ogre deleted by blog editor in chief]
Regardless of our disagreements about Palin, at least we all agree that abortion should be illegal. Thankfully, when Judge Sotomayor joins the Court, Roe v. Wade will finally be overturned.
"@214:
right. Republicans would NEVER dig up a candidate's friends, associations, or otherwise assail anything only collaterally about a candidate...
unless he palled around with terrorists."
So Republicans are regularly cracking jokes about Barack Obama's mom getting knocked up when she was unmarried and barely legal, right?
Oh, what's that? We're not?
But we are bringing Biden's daughter's cocaine use which she was caught on videotape discussing?
Oh wait, we're not doing that either. That's not being plastered around the media, it isn't a subject a comedian would touch, and it hasn't been rubbed in Biden's face by our side.
But, I mean to be fair, I'll concede if, say, Al Gore's kid were caught using drugs, that would be plastered all over the media and our side would jump on it.
Oh, I'm sorry, that already happened a while ago, nobody in the media touched the story, much less night talk show hosts, and our side didn't jump on it.
But keep thinking you're the good guys here.
226 - hopefully we can finally get rid of contraceptives and IVF also. Then we can finally be one nation under GOD!
"Given the difference in his performance when he's in front of a teleprompter and his fumbling around when he isn't in front of one, we just enjoy pointing out how much of his charisma and speeches consist merely of reading off this."
In contrast to George W. who sounded like a complete fucking moron even with the teleprompter. Bill Maher said it best - you repugs are just jealous that we got ourself a president who can read!
"Bill Maher said it best - you repugs are just jealous that we got ourself a president who can read!"
Does it really have to be repeated that when you criticize another's reading ability, you shouldn't have errors in your own post? This seems to be a fairly common occurrence on your side.
What errors, 230?
230 - has that point really been made before, in the context of criticizing somebody else's reading ability?
@230 - my "side" may make errors when we post comments to blogs, but we do not invade the wrong country or let hundred of americans die in the hurricane of the century.
"What errors, 230?"
We is plural.
Our is plural.
Self is singular.
Assuming you're going to allow the word "got," the correct wording is "we got ourselves."
You're welcome.
"@230 - my "side" may make errors when we post comments to blogs, but we do not invade the wrong country or let hundred of americans die in the hurricane of the century."
Au contraire,
The merits of the Iraq war aside -- the VP pick (Biden) whose foreign policy expertise you guys were touting earlier in this thread supported the war.
Also, your side was responsible for the incompetent governor fumbling around on her ass during Katrina.
what ever happened to that conjoined twins schtick? i miss it.
233: How much money from that boondoggle stimulus went to the poor poor Katrina victims. Zero. The left in this country used them for political purposes and now they couldn't give a rats ass about them. Maybe if the democratic governor and democratic mayor had done their job Katrina wouldn't have been such a disaster. No, that would only be commonsense.
209, you're skirting the issue. People on this thread criticized Palin for "putting her kids" on the national stage. As been pointed out, that's a hollow criticism of any presidential ticket given the agressive nature of the modern media.
Your retort that she "thinks she's exempt from responsibility for her choice to become a candidate" is thus irrelevant to this conversation.
But thanks for playing.
Blah blah retard blah blah ass blah blah abortion blah blah evil media. Ya know what? This woman just doesn't have what it takes. Period.
If Republicans are looking for girl candidates, just go to any FedSoc event and grab the first woman you see; she'll be better equipped than Snow-pants Sarah.
Love,
The bitter, crumbling remnants of the Goldwater wing of the Republican party
i'd do her.
"Goldwater wing of the Republican party"
I love that liberals are now touting Barry freakin' Goldwater as the definition of a moderate.
You guys really are clueless about anything that differs from your viewpoints (and political history in general).
COUDERT BROTHERS DOUBLE TEAMING DANA LATHAM IN HELL!

Where did I say I was a liberal? Was I waxing eloquent about the Rockefeller wing of the party? No. Maybe I should have said the "mind my own damn business small government libertarian anti-communist" wing of the party.
Now we have the "marginally literate southern ex-democrat big government is OK when it's on our side" wing running the show.

"Where did I say I was a liberal?"
The only people I've heard lately (and, for that matter, ever) referring to Barry Goldwater as a moderate have been liberals. If this is not you (and since you're tossing in libertarian and distinguishing between Rockefeller and Goldwater, it probably isn't), my apologies.
I hate social conservatives.
237: Is that you, Sarah? You obviously didn't understand a thing 209 wrote.

Second!
What about all the people who moved to Alaska in reliance on the popular Palin being the Governor? They might have a claim against Palin under Restatement 90, no?
249 - excellent, thank you.
And c'mon, Sarah Palin ain't the hottest number out there, but she's the hottest piece to ever be on the national political stage for anything other than crawling under a president's desk. (Thinking Marilyn here, not Monica.)
She should have been elected on that alone. We all know (even if you deny it because you're scared of the PC legions) that we'll never find a woman with enough intelligence to run a country cafe, much less the country. At least the woman we choose should look good naked, right?
@96 -- (yeah, I know, I got on late). You're one of the few posters that I think I actually can have an intelligent conversation with. But I will say that this is one of the more entertaining strings in a long time.
"Hopefully she will remain on the national stage for years to come."
Seriously?!? Maybe the Rusty sycophants need her on the national stage because she makes W sound like Adam Smith. Dunno.....
She's doing it for the money, plain and simple.
I'm not surprised that the comments by the legal community would be overwhelmingly anti-Sarah. Lawyers are the biggest contributors to the Democratic party, and they're the biggest lobby group in DC.
I'm reminded of what John Adams once said: "In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress."
And one other thing, how bitter you lawyers must be telling jokes about a defenseless baby, of all people. I think, if I'm not mistaken, you lawyers are the biggest butt of jokes in all recorded history.
121 or 128. I can't decide which is the funniest. Post. Ever.
Given the comments on this story, I am unable to imagine what it takes to get a comment deleted!!
I just finished reading every single comment on this entire thread. And I must say, one of you is the absolute dumbest, a rare combination of stupidity combined with an utter lack of realization of how dumb you are.
The winner of the DOUCHEBAG OF THIS THREAD award is . . .
91!
Congrats buttplug.
McCain should apologize for nominating someone who quits on the very people that voted for her - two friggin' years into her first term.

sorry 'bout the double post...
sorry 'bout the double post...
People dislike Palin because she is attempting to coast on charisma and good looks while spewing non-sensical statements and pass them off as legitimate and worthy of attention. Her statements have lacked internal consistency much less real substance; and what little substance is there seems not to be based on actual reason. She uses religion to prop up her positions; and while religious-based beliefs and positions are fine, she somehow thinks she can GOVERN US ALL by imposing on us her religious-based beliefs without regard for majority-will (after all, politicians are supposed to represent the people - but not in her political world they don't). So her "preference" and "beliefs" could become our "mandate" and our "reality" - and she doesn't even seem to know the difference. Yes I'm liberal but to assume that liberals have irrational hatred of Palin is underestimating liberals' ability to explain why Palin doesn't get (or deserve) their respect
I agree that Palin seems more suited to being a pundit or talking head, and probably thinks she can back-end back into politics after she becomes a charismatic celebrity. I fear that outcome, and hope that if she becomes a pundit, that's what she remains.
To suggest that liberals should ignore Palin (the way that conservatives ignore Biden) is disingenuous. I'd never heard of Palin before McCain decided that Palin of all people should be his VP and possibly our President. We would love to ignore Palin but McCain (who I used to like) pandered in the worst way by acting like choosing a female VP candidate (whoever she was) would give him female and minority votes. McCain put Palin front and center and the choice was a huge insult to a lot of people. So ignoring someone who came a few million votes away from being our VP is unrealistic. I still can't believe how relatively close the election was, in actual votes if not electoral votes, given the two tickets. But like a prior poster, I too am glad McCain nominated Palin too in the end, because it was so helpful to Obama. But the insult lingers.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to look like Palin. I don't resent her for her looks. She is extremely striking, but politicians don't have to be pretty, they have to be effective and represent the people, and I'll never believe she would be either.
"@29 and @45 - seriously leave now. This country doesn't need people like you. Go listen to your Toby Keith in your jacked up 4x4, cry when you think about baby Jesus, jack off to pictures of Sarah Palin, then leave. Seriously, I thought Sherman took care of you people during the Civil War. "
Maybe this country doesn't need bigots like you. I am extemely surprised by the inability of most who post on this site to accept that there are many people who hold different views (political, religious, even something as trivial as music...) than you. Can you not have an intelligent discussion about your own views without insulting someone else for exercising their own freedom of speech? Intolerance is intolerance no matter the subject of your ire.
BTW, whether you like Palin are not ,the comments about her handicapped son are despicable. I hope this website is now frequented by 12 year olds. I would hate to think that lawyers or aspiring lawyers are posting some of this crap. Actually, I would hate to think that even a 12 yr. old could so juvenile.
-- The de facto 2 Party system is ruining our country...Time for a Libertarian President
Though, I respect your right to say those things no matter how juvenile and despicable...

Sarah would like everyone to know she is NOT a quitter!! Indeed, she is a fisher...
