Breaking: Ted Kennedy, RIP
Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) passed away shortly before midnight on Tuesday, while at home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. He was 77. From CNN:
“We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever,” a family statement said. “We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice.”Kennedy, nicknamed “Ted,” was the younger brother of slain President John F. Kennedy and New York Sen. Robert Kennedy, who was gunned down while seeking the White House in 1968. However, his own presidential aspirations were hobbled by the controversy around a 1969 auto accident that left a young woman dead, and a 1980 primary challenge to then-President Jimmy Carter that ended in defeat.
Senator Kennedy was a lawyer. He graduated in 1959 from the University of Virginia School of Law (where he won a moot court competition), became a member of the Massachusetts bar, and served as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County from 1961 to 1962. But he was more known for his long and distinguished political career than for his legal one.
Update: Over at True/Slant, Elie asks: “Could a 30 year old Edward Kennedy get elected to the Senate today? Would he have survived the scandals of his youth to become entrenched in the U.S. Senate?”

FIRST! I read this before you did!
Your mom died.
Lat is a blogging machine. Whenever there is a post at a weird hour, it's Lat.
Tasteless Chappaquiddick jokes in 3, 2, 1...
Maybe now he can apologize to Mary Jo Kopechne.
Oh, I'm sorry - is it still too early to remind everyone that Ted Kennedy killed a woman?
Lat needs to fix the first sentence -
"Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) assed away shortly before midnight on Tuesday. He was 77. From ABC News:"
I have a feeling a P was supposed to be there somewhere. Please moderate ;)
May Senator Kennedy Rest In Peace.
"Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) assed away shortly before midnight on Tuesday."
is someone's "p" key missing?
It says "passed" for me.
He couldn't swim away from this one.
Say HI to Mary Jo!!
Laura Bush killed someone while driving, it was no big deal.
8, Lat's got boys on the mind, Freudian Slip, etc...
13 - Or was Lat, with his conservative leanings, trying to suggest that Ted Kennedy was an ass?
12 - But she wasn't drinking, and she didn't leave her victim to die.
2, u got cocky with the additional words, and u paid for it
Being FIRST is less of an accomplishment at 1:30 in the morning. There is less competition.
don't you diminish my "first" accomplishment, douchebag. Whether at 1:30 a.m. or at the height of the lunch hour, "first" is an honor bestowed on only the truly deserving.
14, good point, but considering Lat's lustful post about the Harvard dweeb who lost $475,000 for being a complete dipshit (as most commenters and other articles pointed out), I'd say Lat (a normally very astute observer of things) has boys on the mind.

Despite his checkered personal life, Kennedy was a great senator and citizen.
May he rest in peace.
"...He will be honored with a burial at sea.
His body will be placed in a sedan, which will be rolled off a bridge."
Despite his checkered personal life, Manson was a faithful Eagle Scout.
May he rest in peace.
Our nation's roads and causeways are now safer. Goodnight, sweet prince.

I suppose that I should know the answer to this question, but is the University of Virginia Law School accredited by the American Bar Association? Does anyone know whether the school is a member of the Association of American Law Schools?
25, the University of Virginia Law School lost its accreditation when it came out that it failed to teach its grads about various fundamentals of criminal law, such as legal levels of intoxication for operating a motor vehicle and the necessity of reporting accidents to the authorities. Its rising 1L's take the VA baby bar then, if they pass, they continue their studies and are able to take the Virginia state bar upon graduation. They may eventually get into other jurisdictions about reciprocity. As a response to the University of Virginia's failings, the Virginia bar exam is notorious for including many questions about DUIs. It is not to be confused with Virginia State University Law, which is fully accredited and well respected.
Rest in peace Mary Jo. The Devil has his due. That's if he wants this vile piece of garbage.
Now he can swim with the fishes.
God bless poor Mary Jo and her family. No justice for them.
Now they can finally rename Scores -- "The Ted Kennedy Memorial Strip Club"
29 = FAIL. Scores closed years ago.
Just another politician who thought he knew better than his constituents because his outrageous wealth sheltered him from every being in touch with the average person's struggles. Rest in peace... lord knows you lived in it.
15: It happened in Texas. I think we can all presume moonshine was involved.
When did the comments on this site turn into XOXOHTH??? Completely tasteless...
RIP, Senator Kennedy. You will be greatly missed.
Man was limousine liberal and never actually had a job that was in politics. He was more than happy to spend so much money on other people because he had so much. Look where and when the Kennedy Clan got their money. Once they had it and the associated power theey became the nauseating liberals they are today. Old Joe has probably been spinning in his grave for decades.
That said I truly wish he had left the Senate for different a reason and God bless him.
What kind of man doesn't go into the water to try to save his girl? What a fat drunken piece of poop. Will we get the attorney client stuff from the case now?
You guys are sick. Ted Kennedy did more for the poor than any politician in our lifetimes, but commenters are only spewing filth about him. The man just passed away - show some respect.
good riddance to one of the liberal clowns who is responsible for the ludicrously high cost of a higher education today.
remember when he paid someone to take a spanish exam at harvard? even in his early twenties he was a life cheater and scum bag
33 - This is what the interwebs are for. Catch up.
And F the Kennedy clan. F them hard.
37
He did more for the poor? ORLY? Why did he die a rich man then? Was it because his family had already made their money and he only advocated taxing people like me to impose a barrier on me attaining such wealth? I would love to have the compounds their family has.
He betrayed his Irish Catholic immigrant roots at every turn in politics. His father Joe would probably have beaten him daily if he was still alive.
It's days like today when I'm reminded of the high number of right-wing nutjobs that frequent this site. Can't you spew this crap over at townhall or redstate?
I agree that some of the comments on this thread are inappropriate. But:
1) Kennedy was a public figure, and a controversial one at that.
2) Nothing being said here about him hasn't been said before.
42, you really think the comments would have been different if a Bush had died today?
Same kinda comments, only you'd be chuckling. Don't be a hypocrite.
good riddens to this giant piece of socialist shit...
44 - You have a point, sir (or ma'am).......
nobody really liked the fat man. he was just another rich drunk who loved to think of new and better ways to give hard earned money away to the lazy and stupid.
mass. is in shambles
I'm still not sure why we should admire him - because he came from a rich and powerful family? This is America - that doesn't mean a damn thing.
He was an alcoholic, a womanizer, a hypocrite, and - oh yeah - he negligently killed a young girl that he was cheating on his wife with.
I respect the fact that he was powerful and rich and lived off the public dole for so...oh wait, no. Forget that.
42
1) People on here are always assholes no matter who the topic is
2) Most of the comments are just stating facts.
3) ___X____ Conservative dies and you think there wouldn't be snarky comments?
4) Check his record and them come back and talk
5) Characterizing people like that is why liberals are losing the public debate? Or did you forget all of the comments made by protesters about Bush and the War? Selective memory or selective freedom of speech. . . . you tell me
Spending 47 years in the Senate is exactly what the Founders had in mind.
Sent around by Nixon Peabody's managing partner this morning:
"As a law firm with a very significant presence in Massachusetts, we are deeply saddened by the loss of Senator Ted Kennedy. Senator Kennedy had a huge influence as he was one of the most accomplished legislators for social and economic justice, and shared interests in areas of Nixon Peabody's practice focus, most significantly in the areas of health care including stem cell research. The Senator's tireless campaigns and passion combined with his thoughtful approach to solving the great issues of the day will continue to be a great source of inspiration.
Dick"
Thought it was a pretty dull email until the random name-calling at the end.
Ted Kennedy was a socialist, self-serving POS, and if there is justice in the world he will rot in Hell. He and is ilk have striven for a generation to run our country into the ground with confiscatory taxation, oppressive regulation, and a systematic campaign to undermine the rule of law. Shame on him.
What's was all the bile on this thread? If you don't care about Kennedy, fine. But don't throw around insults hours after the man dies, you sad, psychologically inadequate jerks. Were you raised by wolves?
I have a little tiny bit of hope that we can be done with the Kennedy Clan f-ing things up. So tired of hearing how great these people are.
Near midnight on Chappaquiddick Island, a possibly drunk and definitely married Senator Ted Kennedy takes a right turn instead of a left. His car winds up skidding off Dike Bridge and is quickly submerged upside-down in salty Poucha Pond. His passenger, RFK office secretary Mary Jo Kopechne, is knocked into the back seat. Kennedy swims to safety, whereupon he fails to rescue his companion or even simply report the incident to authorities until the following morning.
Because no autopsy is ever performed on Kopechne's body (her body had been promptly whisked out of state) it is uncertain how long it took her to drown, if she wasn't killed on impact. Likewise, it is never established whether Kopechne was pregnant or exhibited signs of recent sexual activity.
Calling people "sad, psychologically inadequate jerks" and suggesting they were "raised by wolves" fails to reduce the level of bile of the thread.
Just sayin'.
53
Nothing I didn't say when he was alive, but at least now he can hear me since he's no longer stuck behind the 12 foot walls of his compund ignoring people who disagreed with his socialist vision for America
It is called "noblesse oblige."
Sure, Kennedy came from a rich family. But at least he gave back through public service, instead of just blowing his family money on wine and women (although he did that too).
58.
No he gave back by taking my money and giving it to people who didn't work and didn't try so that he could create a socialist utopian state
You know. I was kind of looking forward to this day, except that now that it's here I'm having trouble enjoying it as much. I guess that's what makes me a compassionate conservative.
56, I think you're missing the overall context. People on this site are insulting a dead man. I'm insulting the sad sacks insulting the dead man in vicious ways. One is justified due to the context, the other is not. Just saying. 53.
58,
"Public service".... thanks, that's the hardest I've laughed this morning.
There's only one Kennedy left from this generation--the [alleged but acquitted] rapist's mom.
Good riddance.
53
Thankfully you can't defame a dead man (according to the useless sack of $hit BarBri, speaking of which when are bar results posted, I want to sign my name esq ASAP)
53/61 --
Insulting living people who are aware of the insults < insulting a person who no longer exists.
Got it.
I'm not a nutjob of any wing, but I will say this. Ted was a douche. Maybe he did do a lot for the poor. But he was also an embarrassing example of privilege run amok. Mary Jo notwithstanding, this was a dude who boned someone in a restaurant when he was a sitting senator. You take the good with the bad.
58 - Public service? You're kidding, right? That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
What about being a filthy-rich womanizing alcoholic Senator leads you to conclude that he is in it for the public service? Is it the massive compound on Martha's Vineyard? The continual abuse of power and alcohol?
He didn't become a senator for his own purposes - no, that's crazy talk - he did it for the good of the public! lol
12,
Laura Bush wasn't drunk when she was driving and didn't flee the scene. If she had done those things she would have been in jail because her name was not Kennedy.
It sucks when people die because some people actually do love them and will be sad, but I'm going to vomit from everyone claiming how great of a man he was. He had a name and he raped and pillaged the people of this country for 4 decades because his father was a bootlegger.
58 - I would have preferred it if Teddy had just stuck to doing what he does best: blowing his family money on wine and women.
"American's with Disabilities Act" gave my son, and countless others, a life. I know first hand what his contributions have meant. Some of you have a lot to learn.
How is this "breaking"? Didn't it happen last night?
71
It also imposed untold costs on the economy for the benefit of a few and gave alcoholics the right to not be fired for being drunk at work.
Ted Kennedy was a great man. It is too bad that he never became president.
I think some of you typed in the wrong URL this morning on your way to the Howard Stern message boards. You're as tasteless as the cretins who posted "Baba Booey" on the 9/11 survivor message boards.
Ted was flawed, to be absolutely sure. And he was fighting some powerful demons all of his life. But he did do a lot of good in the world, and I hope he rests in peace.
72 - Look at the time stamp. Lat posted this at 1:30 AM.
61's right. Comments like "good riddens to this giant piece of socialist shit..." convince me that this website is the fourth stop in the morning reading for the majority of ATL readers after the following:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index

Baba Booey Baba Booey!
He was more known for committing murder than anything else.
“If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 62 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age,” - Charles Pierce, Boston Globe.
You know, it is possible to disagree with socialist policy and simultaneously disagree with the republican agenda.
Long story short, I think all politicians (including the recently deceased) are douchebags and this country is beyond fucked.
81 - "You know, it is possible to disagree with socialist policy and simultaneously disagree with the republican agenda."
It's called being a Libertarian... welcome to my world!
82
With you!
I firmly support most of Ted Kennedy's politics and truly admired his willingness to be outspoken on any topic, regardless of how unpopular or controversial his stance. He will be missed by me at least.
21 FTW.
71: It also lets money-grubbing cripples get rich because some mom and pop restaurant has a bathroom mirror that's 2 inches higher than government regulation.
http://facesoflawsuitabuse.org/2009/03/lawsuit-over-bathroom-mirror-2-inches-too-high/
If we're going down the "you have a lot to learn" road, perhaps you might want to Google "unintended consequences."
I firmly support most of Ted Kennedy's politics and truly admired his willingness to be outspoken on any topic, regardless of how unpopular or controversial his stance. He will be missed by me at least.
85 should read "government regulation allows."
85
Bears noting: when Kennedy swam to safety the night he recklessly murdered Mary Jo, his first call was to his lawyer, not an ambulance. No one called 911 till the next day.
Fuck that guy.
--Avowed Socialist (I despise Libertarians)
30 - Even bigger epic fail:
http://www.scoresnewyork.com/
He was a Catholic, right? Do you think he ever sought forgiveness for killing MJK? You know. You're on your deathbed. It's time to clear your accounts.
18 - how many ass sores do you have from doing nothing but sitting in front of a computer refreshing this blog 24/7?
Ted Kennedy:
Progeny of a criminal and a criminal himself. Media will overlook his history of murder and his father's history of organized crime primarily because he's a Democrat. And they freely call George Bush a "war criminal". Pathetic.
58 = best comment on this thread.
I once heard Ted referred to as the Shemp of the Kennedy family.
He was an intellectual lightweight. His long tenure in the senate doesn't change that.
91 -
For your information, I just happened to be surfing the internet last night looking for asian midget bondage videos when I clicked on my ATL bookmark by chance... no refreshing at all, call it Fate.
- 1
bury him next to michael jackson.
94 - I don't know if I would call Ted an "intellectual."
But he was certainly a masterful tactician and negotiator. And those skills are more valuable in the U.S. Senate than intellect.
53 - I was in fact raised by two loving and caring wolves. Does that somehow make me a bad person?
Rot in hell Teddy.
It's not surprising that virtually all the negative comments to this post are about Chappaquiddick. But it's still pretty pathetic, seeing as how that happened forty years ago. Don't you losers ever get your panties in a twist about something current? Or is that where the death panel thing comes in?
I was going to make a snide Mary Jo comment, but the collective harm Kennedy caused this country far outweighs even that horrific crime. The worst of the worst of the limousine liberals. I hope there is a hell and I hope he burns in it forever.
99, you silly twat, there is no statute of limitations on murder.
Why would anyone think it worse to be a "limousine liberal" than a limousine libertarian? Libertarians are just another sect of greedy cunts who want the government to do or not do their bidding -- most reminiscent of the welfare mothers they so despise.
94: Never got the idea that JFK was a grand intellectual.
Or Sarah Palin or John McCain, but I digress.
99
My comments were about his socialist policies which he tried to impose until yesterday.

Libertarians don't want to take other peoples money and give it to the lazy, they want to make money and keep it while keeping the government out of their lives
I applaud Sen. Kennedy's 40+ year battle against conservative and Republican ignorance, stupidity, bigotry and racism. Sadly, the battle rages on.
Libertarians are the biggest joke of all, especially highly educated ones. They are all privileged white men who grew up with enough money not to have to depend on government or receive any social services or ever be in want or need of anything and think that means that no one else should need to, as well. What a bunch of fucking idiots. When some lawyer tells me he is a libertarian, I just laugh. Can't take him seriously.
Thanks for the answer, 101 (even if it's not the answer you think you're giving).
- 99
Despite what has been said here, rest in peace, Senator Kennedy. You have my respect and honor.
Sadly the libs are going to try to use his death as a rallying cry for government health care. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the plug on him as a political ploy to redirect the debate. His last act in promoting his socialist agenda will be dying.
105, see 107 for how everyone (except the teensy minority of libertarians) feels about libertarian cunts like you.
In short, had you not been given everything, you would demand it.
--102
I am God's partner in matters of life and death.
I'm Barack Obama?
This news really gave me a spring in my step today.
Should I feel guilty? Guilty like I killed someone 40 years ago and got away with it?
sadly 106 is still living in our country....read the founders you liberal hack and learn what it means to be self-reliant and independent....i hope you get a disease and your public option kicks in and you dont get the care you need....stay away from my country you pathetic socialist
As per the 99s of the world, murder is quite alright, provided it is performed by an elitist Harvard d-bag dressed as a liberal democrat and upon one of the little people whom one uses for sex and then discards like uneaten lobster parts.
This "redemption" bullshit is just that. Bullshit. For one to be redeemed, one must have paid their debt to society, i.e. prison time, which this ass did not.
The Kennedys are a welt upon the ass of this nation and I wish, hope and pray that we stop having to hear their sordid tale.
R.I.P. Teddy
115: While Ted Kennedy may have killed one woman, another scion of a famous American family has led over 3,000 people to their deaths in an utterly senseless and pointless war. Wonder which one is worse?
114 -- "read the founders...and learn what it means to be truly self-reliant". The founders, generally, god bless em, were privileged white folks of great means for whom being self-reliant meant spending some of their inheritance. Sound familiar? Shove your self-reliance up your ass.
117, that's true, but your numbers are a little off, since the Vietnam War that Kennedy led us into actually killed about 50,000 people.
I've known several people who interned in the Senate, all of whom said Ted Kennedy was the biggest fucking prick there. Despite his public service, he led a scandalous, sub-par life. Cancer of the brain indeed - stretching clear back into his twenties!
119: Ted Kennedy led us into the Vietnam War? Sounds like a typical conservative view of history. Utterly wrong.
Jesus fucking christ, 115. You talk about paying one's debt to society?
His oldest brother was killed fighting in WWII. (Are you a combat veteran?)
His next brother was seriously wounded in that same war, recovered to reasonable health and became president of the United States, then had his head blown apart by an assasin's bullet.
His next brother served as attorney general before also getting an assasin's bullet to the head.
He himself was a senator for almost 50 years, making the effort, doing the work. You may not like his policies, but at least he was in the ring, as TR would say, and not simply sitting on the sidelines.
So now it's 1969 and he's got 3 murdered older brothers, plus a sister locked up in an asylum somewhere, plus god knows what other crazy family bullshit in his lunatic clan. He does something awful and pulls strings to get out of it -- exactly what anyone, GOP or Democrat, liberal or conservative - would have done at that time in that situation. I think it's chickenshit and I certainly don't respect him for it, but it wasn't proven to be "murder" and your speculation to the contrary is simply baseless.
Since that time how many hundreds of thousands of Americans have died unnatural deaths? How many millions of human around the world have suffered a tragic end? Do you spew your acid vitriol at each perpetrator of these wrongs? Will you condemn every one of them like this when they die? Seriously, get over it and get on with your life.
- 99
121, there are other famous politicians named Kennedy, including a president. Sounds like a typical liberal reading of the English language. Utterly wrong.
120 -- Touche!
106 -- it's a shame you're so deluded. it really is.
Kennedy was from the country's upper most upper class - our own version of an aristocracy - and he behaved accordingly. He led a life of debauchery and legislated bread and circuses. His goal throughout was to destroy the black family, swamp the country with poor and uneducated immigrants and to prevent the riff raff from climbing up the economic ladder and moving in next to him. He did it to re-enslave the blacks, provide cheap brown labor to industry and to destroy the meritocracy - to pull up the ladder - all in order to expand and preserve his family's power.
When unbiased historians write about him in decades to come he'll be remembered as a sort of American Caligula. But for now let's just be relieved that the grip of the oligarchy has loosened.
117 here. I was responding to 119's idiotic attempt to conflate Ted Kennedy with his older brother., which I addressed in post 121. I guess we are all responsible for the decisions our siblings make, though, right? Typical conservative idiot.
Ted, I met you more than once (first time was during your 1980 primary campaign trail stop at the Sheridan Hotel in New York). I was not impressed although your taste in liquor improved in your later years. Unfortunately for you, Mary Jo is in heaven and you will not have an opportunity to apologize to her. I always thought you were the weakest link in the Kennedy clan. While news of your passing reminds me of my own mortality, I will celebrate your demise by drinking scotch and getting a lapdance at Rick's Cabaret during lunch. May you feel the pitchfork for all eternity.
122, listing bad things that happened to other members of your family before 1969 does not count as "paying your debts to society" for a crime committed in 1969.
And so passes from this earth Ted Kennedy. He was a liberal lion, an elder statesman, a Kennedy – and yet all anyone wants to talk about is how he maybe let some woman drown or asphyxiate after he maybe drunkenly crashed his car, or how he was expelled from Harvard for cheating on that one Spanish exam, or even how most of his family considered him to be borderline retarded. You’re all pathetic.
Focus instead on his achievements. He was a Kennedy, people. That’s more than any of you will accomplish in your whole lives. He was a mentor to the kids at Kennebunkport, watching with filial pride over their shenanigans. Not to mention that he was the driving force behind some of the greatest legislation this country has ever known (remember No Child Left Behind, jerks?). And on top of that he devoted his life to giving money – lots and lots of money – to the poor and downtrodden.
How -dare- anyone criticize him, or say anything negative about him. In fact, the only thing that should be said about his death is that it’s a stark reminder how desperately we need health care reform. Because if a Kennedy can die, so can anyone.
127, no we're just taking about the scion of a famous American family has led over 3,000 people to their deaths in an utterly senseless and pointless war. You were talking about John F. Kennedy and the actual number is 50,000 American deaths, right?
Still in disbelief that 126 exists and can write semi-coherent sentences. Are you real, 126? Are there people who actually believe the insanity that you are spewing? Why are these people not in power? Why do they have no influence or relevance?
Here's hoping that as Kennedy sails off into the sunset on his luxury yacht there are no unsightly windmills on the horizon to detract from his experience.
Oh, god 130 is just too hilarious, especially the last paragraph. Do people like you really exist?
133 - CLASSIC
132
126 is spot on. Ted Kennedy was not a "public' servant, he was a "self" servant.
- NOT 126
131: By 1964, American casualties in the Vietnam War numbered around 400. Johnson and Nixon were responsible for escalation, moron. GWB presided over more than 3,000 American deaths in an utterly senseless war. Not much of a comparison.
118 i hope one day i find you in an ally ill show you self reliance you douchebag liberal cunt
137, so by January 2004, when American casualties in the Iraq War numbered around 400, the Iraq war hasn't started yet and the period before didn't count?
I'm sure the families of those 400 killed in Vietnam during Kennedy's term are happy to know that those deaths don't really count and that the Vietnam War hasn't started until it's been "escalated."
130 nailed it. Perhaps the comment of the year.
Here's all you need to know
1) He killed a woman
2) He was a liberal/socialist of the highest order
3) His family was wealthy and powerful beyond scope
4) He was a member of the lucky sperm club
5) His brothers were heroes and he wasn't even worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as them.
6) Never held a real job in his life
7) While I hated his politics I do hope he rests in peace
As soon as I saw the news this morning, I prepared for a day of being disgusted by public outpouring of appreciation for Ted Kennedy. The way he abandoned Mary Jo to die really summarizes the level of "passionate concern" for the well-being of the "little guy" that most politicians actually have-- especially big government democrats. Mary Jo wasn't even some nameless person in the crowd, he "knew" her quite well-- but as far as we know, Teddy made no effort to assist her or even summon help-- he called his lawyer to cover his tracks... yeah, sounds like someone I would want to trust my major life decisions like health care too...
I was even more sickened by Pelosi and Byrd's shameless exploitation of the country's collective selective memory "Let's f'up our health care system for Ted!"...
Most of all, I am saddened by the extremely high level of intolerance expressed here by the angry left. I am not a socialist or a liberal (in the modern, anti-freedom sense), but many of my friends and most of my coworkers are, and they manage to have intelligent, respectful discussions about our divergent views. Maybe that's only possible with two sufficiently intelligent people... but some of you leftwing nutjobs around here calling people names for highlighting Ted Kennedy's flaws just because he's died or ranting about the people on the right, should really consider making reasoned arguments instead of flinging the attacks, Pelosi style (am I, of course, giving you the benefit of the doubt in assuming you want people to understand and agree with your position, instead of just loving the look of your own angry type).
133 - well played. Bet most on here have no clue what you are talking about.
#130 - "He was a Kennedy, people. That's more than any of you will accomplish in your whole lives." - no, it call that winning the genetic lettery.
Accomplishing something with your life is a whole lot harder than being born into the purple. And, despite all of Teddy's accomplishments, given where he started and what he was given, it may noit be that much.
Did anyone notice that President Obama could not clear his busy vacation schedule for a 20 minute flight on Marine One from the Vinyard to Hyannisport or the Kennedy compound to pay his respects to a dying man? After all, without the virtuouise performand and endoresement that Ted and Caroline gave in March 2008, Obama likely would not have gotten the nomination, much less been elected President.
That's gratitude for you. Or maybe its just Chicago politics.
33, long time ago... where've you been?
130, Being a Kennedy isn't an "accomplishment"; if your gym teacher never explained the birds and the bees to you, the comments section at ATL isn't going to help. "If a Kennedy can die, so can anyone," is a pretty retarded statement. Kennedys die all of the time, and the good ones especially seem to be prone to early deaths. I think you're the only person who's ever doubted the ability of Kennedys to die. After the good ones were killed in the 60s, the Kennedys came to stand for entitlement and minor crime. Perhaps now they'll finally fade into obscurity.
Re: 130 -- I think the people commenting on it need to set their phasers to "satire."
146, you're a goddamn idiot.
138 -- Is English your first language? Go back to Alaska, Sarah.
Most of you are pretty sad. I assume you're young, yet already you display the diseased minds of the typical Bush/Cheney lover. If you don't feel compassion for the underprivileged or revel in idealism when you're still in your 20's, you're already worthless pricks. What kind of freaks will you become when you age? You'd better hope you make BigLaw money someday so you can buy a wife who wouldn't otherwise bother to spit in your faces. You're nothing more than a tragic bunch of clowns without souls.
150, you're right. Idealism is something totally missing on the right these days. And though Ted Kennedy can be accused of much, it can't be said that he wouldn't tilt at a few windmills.
I didn't care for the guy's politics and he certainly had more than his share of personal flaws, but don't disparage the dead. RIP Senator.
hey 149, where should i send the thank you when the empire falls due to the heavy costs asssociated with socialist utopian societies...english is my first language ...it must be your second language...let me guess you are a member of la raza, maybe you are a communist...maybe your daddy didnt love you and youd rather the government take care of you like he didnt...you are so sad...when you wake up from the obama trance you will thank the people who disliked him enough to call him on his pelosi policies...you sicken me...you are the type of person that thinks that others want your liberal help...the only thing liberal policy does is disable people...
liberals are the only ones with diseased minds...you are the party of limits...i hope obama spits in your face as he tramples on your ability to be successful...maybe you are a plaintiffs lawyers bottom feeder prick...idealism is for the naive...realism is for the survivors...go to cuba is idealisitic utopias are your bag and leave my freedom alone..
66, attack a person who can't defend himself from attack while his family and supporters are in mourning<<<attacking someone who can defend himself.
Got it. You, sir, are not only heartless. You're an imbecile.
Sincerely,
53
Gotta love all the friggin nutjob liberals on this site. Kennedy was a piece of shit. All you really need to know about this scum bag is that he was banging every chick within arms length. On one of those nights while driving with a 2.5 bac, he drove his car off a bridge. The part that no one seems to notice, is that the car was sitting upside down in water that was 5 feet deep. Kennedy left Mary Jo Kopechne to die in water that the average person could stand up in.
Then he manages to leave the scene, even though there where houses with front porch lights on 400 feet away. Somehow he forgets to tell the police about what happened for another day. Cause he was in shock even though once he got back to the party house, him and his 2 buddies went back to the scene.
Wow, what an American hero!!! I hope he burns in hell. The irony is now his healthcare bill will not be passed. I just hope some Nazi Republican was there to whisper that in his ear before taking his last breath.
2.5 BAC a day later!!!! No cops were called the night of the accident.
Fuck that guy.

153 - you are the illiterate audience of Sean Hannity personified, and your inability to express yourself cogently through the written word sickens me. See how many Fox talking points you can fit in your ass. Where can you both write like you do and find work as an attorney?

Where there's only text, and no facial expressions or tone of voice, it's hard to tell whether someone's being sarcastic or is just a moron. 130 is plausible as both sarcasm and a moron.
130 is clearly satire. 160, you are a buffoon.
153 im quite literate...and quite intelligent at that...and i would gladly stick something up your ass for dominance...GO FUCK YOURSELF...
159 deserves to die a slow and painful death while waiting for cancer treatment from the public option he/she will gladly be on...DO US ALL A FAVOR AND DROP DEADplease
His actions speak louder about his words. How hard is it to pass legislation? The Senate is for the elite. He was an elitist, an ineffectual one at best. If he was in the Senate so long he should have done more. His state is virtually bankrupt. Doctors and hospitals in his state are howling that they are not getting paid and bitch about the universal healthcare program there. A human being would have called the police. Yes we're all fixated on that one day forty years ago and it was not a routine traffic accident. There was a cover up. He and his cousins made 40-50 calls during that time period except the one to the police. The diver who pulled out the car and the body had said if he had just gone to the house called up and the emergency services could have been there in 25 minutes, she would have been alive today. She was not sitting in the back seat , she went there because that's where the air pocket would have been- one or two hours trapped. One story around the Island said that Ted wanted to pass the story that he didn't know she was in the back seat 'sleeping.' The whole cover up and the alibi building is what disgusts me. Trying to build an alibi at the motel he was staying, complaining to the management of a party too noisy. When my son ask me about Teddy Kennedy I point him out as an example not to be, how not to act as a human being. He was a hypocrite, I know stories about him in the 80s that would make your blood curl. He was a dick to women. He was held to a different standard of law. That's what irks us. Why do you think tons of posts are filled with vitriol for this man?
God, what an idiot. I'm so glad he's finally dead. Teddy was the laughingstock of a whole family of clowns. He really should have died 30 years ago or so along with his brothers. As Neil Young said, "It's better to burn out than to fade away." At least John and Bobby went out in a blaze of glory, rather than a career of political mistakes and senility. I'm not sure why anyone thinks anything about Teddy was "great", other than his waistline and his age.
I don't know anything about this supposed drunk driving conspiracy. It's probably about as legitimate as the Vince Foster one for Clinton (that is, not at all).
Teddy Kennedy was the Paul McCartney of the Kennedy family: doomed to pointlessly live on watching his bandmates die. Can we all just get over him quickly? His death marks the dawn of a new and better era for America. We can learn two things from Kennedy's career: first, support politicians based on intelligence and ability, not last name. And second, we badly need term limits in Congress.
I'm sorry, I suppose I should know this, but who is Ted Kennedy and is he accredited by the American Bar Association?
