Alston & Bird: Sit Tight Summers Your Offer is Still Being Considered
Summer associates with Alston & Bird in 2009 are starting to get a little anxious. We know that so far, none of you have received offers. But that is going to change. Alston & Bird will make offers to some people. The firm is just still trying to figure out how many offers to extend. This email was sent from Alston & Bird to its summers on Friday:
Hi everyone -Just wanted to give you a quick update regarding the timing of offers. You may recall that we’re coordinating our decisions as a Firm this year rather than by office (though offers will be office specific). Unfortunately, not all of our offices are ready with their decisions and as a result, we won’t be able to communicate our decisions this week. We apologize for the delay, and assure you that we will be in touch as soon as possible. Please don’t hesitate to give me a call if you need anything. Many thanks.
One tipster doesn’t think Alston is wondering what its summers need:
She knows what we need…f****** job offers. Hate to say it, but this is definitely bringing the morale of the summer class down. Also seems really sketchy—there are rumors they were interviewing 3L’s. Wonder if that is what the delay is about?
Patience dear 3Ls, patience. Morale is irrelevant. Stick to your 3L interviewing schedule. Alston will get back to you when it is ready.

FIRST?????
Sounds like Alston is giving it's summers "the bird". ZINGGGGG
oh 2 -- you're such a witty young chap! "the bird"! oh what a riot
I have to agree - morale is irrelevant here.
Alston & Bird?? I was previously under the impression that was a store in the strip mall that sold candles. Look, I have a simple suggestion: Create two ATL sites. One for the big boys and another - Junior ATL - for small firms in small cities. Hate to sound like a snob, but I don't come to this site for stories about some firm I've never heard of. The new site could be called Below the Law or Below Above the Law.
at least this firm had the courtesy of sending their SAs an email - can't say that about a lot of other firms
If these schlubs who labored at Alston had applied themselves in life they may not have ended up slaving away at such a reprehensible law firm.
I worked countless hours to develop my sophisticated demeanor and rock solid cognizance. I also have a heinous amount of wealth.
"You Offer is Still Being Considered"?
Lemme guess: Elie. Oh wow. Big surprise.
"You Offer"
Like, "yo mama"? What?
Mystal is the racist walrus!
Coo coo cah CHOOO!
Please, please, please put up a post about firms that are sitting tight on summer offers. There are a ton still out there that have yet to communicate sh*t to their summers!
7 a-hole
I've been coming to Alston every summer of my adult life, and every summer there she is oiling and lotioning, lotioning and oiling. I can't take this no more!
Mayer Brown hasn't given offers yet either.
For realsies.
5--you post this frequently--exact same post--it is no longer original or clever--if it ever was--but then you are a complete tool so I guess you can't help it
Do you prefer to hunt Alston Bird, or Venison and Elk?
T15 3L here. I'm still waiting on my offer, and in the meantime I've also started interviewing for federal district court clerkships. I'm wondering, has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
Asslobster & Bird will make you eat your words.
num num num num num
17- what?!?!?!?
This firm, like many, is debating the minimum number of offers they can make without damaging the firm's reputation. They are relieved to know that one per office (not counting partners' kids) will suffice.

QUINN REMAINS
Hey MysTTTal - Fuck you and YOU moobs
17 - ???
17 - best post of the year
don't call us, we'll call you (maybe). sounds like a blind date that didn't work out.
17 = God
Layoffs at Skadden D.C. -- more info coming soon
17 - what are you trying to say?
did anyone else witness the tea party protestors in DC this weekend? it was like an all-white invasion of acid washed jeans and mustaches. and that was just the ladies!
Even though no one has ever heckled the President on the House floor, and the healthcare plan expressly states that no coverage will be extended to aliens, Representative Wilson should not have to apologize for his outburst in public.
elie you fat fuck what's going on at Skadden
Schulte? Summer offers? [crickets]
7 - Why not retire and enjoy your "heinous amount of wealth" rather than working in law? Or do something more fun for a living?
The walrus just devoured skadden. Worked his way through the staff and now he is halfway through the associates.
Suck it, fatty.
chase the Skadden story pls
Wish I had an email from Proskauer saying something....
They're waiting for other firms to announce. Seems like there might be a race to the bottom as firms try find the lowest possible offer rate without generating lots of bad press.
The tipper sounds like a real dbag. Seriously, the firm is actually communicating with you rather than leaving you in the dark, so you forward to ATL and then rip them a new one. Don't worry, next time A&B will keep silent just like the rest of the firms that haven't extended any offers yet.
Mystal's moobs prevent him from being a fast typist.
28 -- The same thing that's been "going on" at Kirkland for the past 6 months according to anonymous sources here: business as usual. Don't feed the trolls.
Smelly weasel?
sit tight, 3L's? Only a tiny fraction of all 3Ls will ever have a shot at a job involving summer associateship and "offers". Most law school grads either have to work in another field entirely or they get jobs with their parent's law firms, or after a year or so after graduation, they get a job doing document review, insurance defense, family law or something like that for about 35K per year.
Alston and Bird etc is Biglaw. Maybe 15 percent, tops, of all law grads get these jobs or even get considered for them.

17 - the fuck?
17 is trying to communicate directly with Elie. Everybody else should just ignore the question.
Can 5 be blocked from placing obnoxious comments? Please?

44/45 = no-offered Morgan Lewis summer starting down an alternative career path.
These summers are better off getting no offered. Alston & Bird is full of the phoniest people you will ever meet. All that Fortune "best places to work" stuff is bullshit. The friendliness and happy demenor of the people is way over the top and is 100% fake. It's a bizzare place.
Through bitter experience, I can 2nd the opinions of 51.
MysTTTal is moonlighting as 17.
how 'bout a poo poo platter of some of that obamacare?
is K&s really dissolving IP practice? where are they going?
17, I want some of what you're on.
At least Alston sent out an email. I have a feeling that Mayer Brown's hoping we'll just go away if they don't say anything at all.
Other things that bring down summer associate morale:
1. having to bill more than 5 hours in a day
2. cutting the lunch per diem from $40 to $35
3. scheduling anything work related for the morning after a big summer event (i.e., any day of the week)
How about a post/story on all the firms who still have not told their summers about full-time offers?
We should bomb Guatemala back to the stone age

51, 52 - Nothing this firm ever does could bring it down to the level of Atlanta's WorsTTT Law Firm© McKenna Long & Aldridge!
I have never laughed so hard at an ATL comment thread in my life (re: the 17 thing).
I have never laughed so hard at an ATL comment thread in my life (re: the 17 thing).
17 was sick the day they taught law in law school and sick the day they taught english in english class.
Rumor is that offers were made yesterday and today.
Yes, I heard offers were made yesterday.
65/66-- any more info?
jan 2012 start date
What was the offer rate?
65/66/68 = BS
68 is BS, but 65 and 66 are right -- offers were extended last week. The start date is January 2011.
69 -
what office/practice group did you get a jan 2011 offer for? all a&b summers that I know of have been given a jan 2012 start date
I know a number of A&B summers that got Jan 2011 offers for the Atlanta office.
