OMG. So sorry, but u r fired. :-(
This is a blind item, since we don’t know the identity of the attorney. Yesterday, this unknown attorney sent an employee a text message. It wasn’t to wish the employee a happy Labor Day. From Reddit:

“Sexting” was the latest hot cell phone trend. Maybe the new trend will be “diSMSing.”
Dear Reddit. It is 10:40 PM, on a Holiday, and I was just fired via text. [Reddit]

A couple of things ticked me off during my vacation with Anabelle, this weekend:
1) The nerve of the Mexicans to take the day off--sucking on their Coronas on the back of their pickups;
2) The flood of moolies from their inner-city slums into our town, blasting that god-awful hip hop in their smancy fancy rental cars;
3) That disrespectful excuse for a presidential advisor who had the nerve to call us moral-standing Republicans out of our names. I stand by Glenn Beck's comment--Barack Hussein Obama is nothing more than a naive, death-paneling, elitist, Black Supremist, Socialist trying to keep the white man down;
4) And the nerve of him to indoctrinate our blessed children with his filth!

The fact that the poster has to say "an very prominent attorney" means she's not-- probably a locally infamous PI or divorce attorney. Therefore, this is a small story about a small firm, that most of the readership doesn't care about. Suggestion: Create two ATL sites. One for the big boys and another - Junior ATL - for small firms in small cities. Hate to sound like a snob, but I don't come to this site for stories about some firm I've never heard of. The new site could be called Below the Law or Below Above the Law.
Wow, that was very poorly written. Not Lat, but the message on Reddit.
text firer did it for the lulz
The ship be sinking...
7 should be more active:
"Hate to sound like a snob" to
"I am a snob"
Kash, I like where your head's at, but wouldn't simply "diSMSing" be better?
Why do you assume this is an attorney? Sounds more like a secretary or paralegal.
omg...a sexting reference!!! thanks!!!!

If the fired Reddit user is an attorney, (s)he is obviously a graduate of the Penn State school of law, the black sheep of the Ivies.
13 = Elie. Elie, nobody said the fired employee was an attorney. All references to an attorney were to the boss who fired by text, who we know is an attorney. Thanks for playing.
12, well played.
Just got my MPRE score... 120... Yeeeeeeeeeeah
haha you wasted 50% more time than you had to.
How about a post about the MPRE scores that just came out? Feel free to post it on below above the law or whatever. Some of us lowly law students want to talk about how great we are or how unfair the test was. Twah...

Wow, as a republican let me be the first to say, you are the reason there is such hatred for republicans in this country, no not Bush, not Chaney, not O'Reilly, it's morons on like you that are the root of the problem. The fact that you cite Glenn Beck, who is one of the world's 5 biggest douchebags (and blatent liar, as well), proves your idiocy.
Your statements are so completely outlandish, I hope it was failed (completely failed) attempt at humor. If it was, STFU, us normal, intelligent republicans have a hard enough time with retards like Glenn Beck on the air
87 secure!
19 - True, kind of makes me feel like a jackass.

I got laid off via email. It also sucked.
I would rather be fired this way. It spares you the embarrassment.
only republicans use words like "retards." Not too classy.
Got a 94 on the MPRE.
This is a chickenshit way to go. If I were canned this way, I'd go into work anyway, pretending that I never received the text--just to force a face-to-face confrontation.
27 has the right idea. In the event that your results were leaked, like A-Rod's 2003 steroid results, you don't want a potential employer thinking you are too ethical.
I have an interesting situation I’m hoping I could get some advice on. I am a top 10% 3L at NYLS who doesn’t have a job yet. I scored an 83 on the MPRE. I planned to practice in New York, which requires an 85. My home state, Montana, only requires an 80. Does it make sense to just go ahead and take the Montana bar exam and practice there, or should I try the MPRE again and stick with my plans to practice in New York? My understanding is that NYLS’s reputation is strongest in NY, but I studied quite extensively for the MPRE and don’t know how much higher I can score. Does anybody have any experience taking the MPRE multiple times? Please advise. Thank you. I'll repost in the main MPRE thread if there is one.
137 MPRE
Please tell me alpacaBowl = Elie....never mind, there aren't any typos in that post.
30 Just take it again. Only this time, don't study for it at all. From your credentials, it is obvious that you are biglaw, 190k material. Studies on MPRE results have shown that the brightest and most successful lawyers generally do poorly on the exam when they study for it. Although, if you do decide to go to Montana, someone of your pedigree and skill will probably end up owning it. So, something to consider.
30,
I really hope you are not basing your decision on where to want to live and start your legal career based upon one crack at a silly ethics exam.
I agree with 28. Is a firing via text even legally binding? Just keep coming in until the bitch has the balls to meet you face-to-face.
(And bitches, we don't care about your MPRE, so stop posting about it on this thread.)
someon out 30 please...how many Montana students are there at NYLS who are in the top 10% of the class?
and yea 30, dont make a life changing career decision because you dont want to take the MPRE again...seriously...
35 has the balls to anonymously call other anonymous comment posters "bitches," on an internet blog
Just this morning, I fired 10 people via telegraph, including the telegraph operator. As you can imagine, this made it extremely difficult to fire anyone else today.
30: Dude. Take it again only, as the previous poster said, do not study at all. If you must, just read over a model exam one time and review the answers. The answer is damned near always the *SECOND* most ethical choice. That is:
Your partner stole money from the trust account of a blind veteran should you:
(a) Shoot the Bastard
(b) Call the Police, but cc your partner
(c) Ask your partner to put it back
(d) Ask for 40% for your silence
The answer is (b), even though (a) is the right thing to do.
I think 30 is a troll post.
Well, I hope 30 is a troll post.
Otherwise...
I think 40 is a troll post.
40 and 41 be trolling
39 - cc'ing a phone call, eh?
Guys at my high school used to cc phone calls all the time. It was no big deal.
I got a 94 on the MPRE also and I feel like I want to take it again just to do better.
5 - you suck, take your shtick and shove it up your ass
44 - awesome. correct use of the best ATL line ever, along with a good eye and dry sense of humor.
A GOODshark never terminates via text. www.goodsharks.com
30 - you are wrong. your situation is not interesting
Wow, a Reddit story quoted on ATL, and not the other way around? What a twist...
I would rather be fired by text or email. 'Twould save you the uncomfortable conversation (you're not going to talk/argue your way out of a termination), and you'd have a paper trail to document the firing (and any potential written response). Could come in handy.
On that note, where is the actual text indicating the person was fired? I'm calling BS.
I got laid off over the phone. It was just easier. The firm had already fired 100 people. Having to look me in the eye wouldn't have made any difference to the partners. I got a minute to put myself together without having to have an awkward conversation and it makes for a story to tell at parties.
BigLaw firms fire people all the time in less than acceptable ways. Last week some young female attorney on this site said she was fired via telephone while still on her honeymoon in Malaysia; others have been fired via telephone when they were out on sick leave.
My ship never be sinking and it has a mere 3" draft.
