Law Student of the Day: He Says He’s Not Dating Rihanna, But Everybody Thinks He Is
From what we can tell, Janero Marchand was just your normal everyday law student. Well, a normal everyday law student who allegedly dated this woman.
Hey, the man likes fine clothes and fine women; there’s nothing wrong with that. But the gossip blog Bossip blew up his world this morning, when it made Marchand front page news:
According to our source, Rihanna has been spotted around town with a new man accompanying her by the name of Janero Marchand. 22 year old Janero is the former boyfriend of video chick Dollicia Bryan and is a current NYU Law Student. Janero, who wishes to stay out of the limelight, has been the missing link to Rihanna’s life; offering her love and support during her split with Chris Brown.
As the cops in a South Park episode might say, “nice … nice.”
There’s only one problem with the story, it’s not true.
Pesky, pesky details after the jump.
We’re still hoping to get in touch with Janero to clear all of this up. But as of now his twitter feed vehemently denies that he is dating Rihanna. These have been Janero’s tweets today:
P.S.A! I am NOT dating Rihanna she’s bangin though and I do NOT go to NYU (Georgetown) AND nor did I date @LuvDollicia THANKS!!!How do you get your shyt taken off a blog? My shorty just called me whilin out on some made up story on a blog that is false.
Man Bossip be making up some bogus ass stories none of that is tru ya’ll it’s not EVEN a pic with me and Rihanna. Don’t believe it!
RT @LUVDOLLICIA WHY IS ALL THE BLOGS STORIES STARTING TO BE SO WHACK! (BOSSIP) I HAVE NEVER DATED @THISISJANERO WE HAVE ONLY WORKED 2GETHER!
Wow, Janero’s real girlfriend must be pissed. I wonder if she’s a GULC student too. If she reasonably relied on the Bossip story and then dumped Janero, she might have a claim under section 90 …
But could it all be a smokescreen? Our man at Popsquire reminds us of some recent Rihanna history:
Rihanna has always been super tight lipped about her relationships. She and Chris took a very long time to confirm they were dating.
Ah yes, Chris Brown. Last seen morphing into a human weed wacker as punishment for his outburst of violence. You know, if I was linked to dating Brown’s ex-girlfriend, I might deny the rumor and make people believe I went to a completely different law school too.
Until Janero speaks, we can’t know if the rumor is true. But ether way, he’s had a more exciting day than your average 1L.

I think georgetown law school is a pretty cool guy. eh dates Rihanna and doesnt afraid of anything
this is totally racist, but I read that text message in the voice of an illiterate black guy
This post is a total waste of our time. I have never heard of these schools. As people have been saying here as of late, PLEASE create a separate site for small-time schools. Those interested can follow, while we can stay here and follow the big boys. Ugh.
4: Mystal?
Well obviously GULC is a third tier toilet if they let this guy in.
From his tweets, I don't think legal writing will be his strong point.
I mean seriously " Man Bossip be making up some bogus ass stories none of that is tru ya’ll..."
SERIOUSLY?
HEY ASSFACE: How about a NSFW tag on that link, schmuck.
@8:
I thought NSFW was pretty much the norm...
Never trust lawyers.
7 is right. If this dude is a GULC student, he should be kicked out.
Hey, how about a story on the law and not about law students today? It's 3:22 and so far we got 4 stories about lawshools/students. BORING!
5: You must be an idiot. Both NYU and Georgetown are T10 schools. If you have never heard of these, I feel sorry for you.
12 -- I loled. GULC is a T10 school. I love it.
Dear Above the Law:
Please cover topics I, a straight male WASP, actually give a sh it about.
Thank you.
8 which link was not safe. The google one. There was no nudity. Your work place sounds uptight.
I think he should provide a link to his twitter page on his resume when he does 2L recruiting.
Sorry 12, GULC is not a T10 school. T14 is the correct term.
( . )( . )
I hate to be the one to ask this, but I wonder which applicant lost their chance at GULC to this poser because they weren't a minority?
17 -- that's why I loled. HTH.
5, your dumb.
Jake or Partner Emeritus, please provide your sage opinion--we're waiting.
OMG! Dollicia is Dee-lish-us! I could eat that up with a spoon!
This student is an example of why the firm no longer actively recruits from Georgetown. It would not surprise me if Georgetown is now accepting Howard law school rejects.
partner emeritus = loser
This kid should wear his gangsta suit and bling bling chain from the picture to his OCI interviews that he will undoubtedly get due to law firms' obsession with NALP statistics
Pathetic. GULC - Really?
GW Grad feeling better by the moment
Guess all the lames in law school have competition for the hariy, fugly ladies who populate the law library. He actually gets girls that regular guys (read as non-lawyers) want. He wins.

How did this idiot get into GULC?!
Partner Emeritless,
Please return.
- The hole you crawled out of
He's not in the Gtown student directory. Doubt he's a student there.
Thank you for requesting my father's and my input, Commenter #22.
No self-respecting man would date an abused woman (i.e. Rhianna) as we all know that abused women suffer from deep-seeded psycholigical disorders which require more attention and resources than a wealthy, uncannily successful lawyer--like myself--is able to supply.
You guys are going to get on your AA horse because of the lexicon he uses in his 140 character tweets? Do you also write briefs for the court citing to wikipedia?
If you must continue this inane anti-AA rhetoric, at least keep it focused on me.
PE you disappoint me. You usually don't sink to the level of racial stereotyping you've done here with your "Howard Law" comment.
--Elie
So glad I didn't go to Georgetown. What a moron/dumbshit this guy sounds like.
Welcome to the wonderful world of diversity!
He's not in the Georgetown Student Directory or listed in the Georgetown email system. . .
Probably not a student there
Elie,
Jesus Christ you're stupid. And for the record, no, I don't cite to Wiki for my briefs. If you're going to use the pathetic Twitter service, you can tweet without sounding like you're a member of Kanye's entourage.
this is totally racist, but the law student of the day is a negro
Jake,
Thank you. See you for drinks in 30.

Elie:
This kid's photo and the language he uses in his tweets is the exact reason there is racial stereotyping and anti-AA rhetoric.
If he just dressed and spoke/typed like a normal human being there would probably be no issue.
Take up you AA-crusade with this guy, not PE and the other upstanding citizens on this blog.
This comment is addressed to post no. 35.
As you well know, I am not opposed to the concept of affirmative action, although I believe it may very well be outdated. Many "white" applicants whine and complain that a minority took their spot at a respectable school or job as a result of AA. These nimrods have only themselves to blame for not coming up with superior numbers to surmount the AA candidate. I happen to respect Howard law school, which I believe has placed more graduate(s) on the U.S. Supreme Court than Georgetown Law. Lastly, I don't discriminate on the basis of color. The only color I care about is green and if you are black, brown and bring me a lot of green, you are an asset to me. The moment a white or black associate is in the red, he/she is useless to me.
42, why shouldn't the AA candidate come up with superior numbers to surmount the white applicant, instead of relying on institutional racism to give him a better playing field?
36 = racist.
41 = racist.
How someone chooses to communicate to his followers via twitter is not a relfection of how he would right a brief or draft an asset purchase agreement. idiots.
It frightens me to think that some who writes "How do you get your shyt taken off a blog? My shorty just called me whilin out on some made up story on a blog that is false" is going to Georgetown.
This dumbass needs to head back to undergrad and retake remedial english.
By the way, Elie sounds defensive.
watching ellie and PE talk is like seeing Mr. Hooper selling sundries to Grover.
Elie, I usually just lol at comments and keep to myself. But, you can't say with a serious face that the lexicon used in the above-quoted messages is a result of shorthard based on the median of communication used.
One who does not say, "my shorty" in non-tweeting settings does not resort to such lexicon when tweeting. I also agree that speech should be governed by the setting, but I seriously doubt that someone that speaks in the manner quoted above can turn it off and churn out a Garner-type brief.
I just do not see it happening. It has nothing to do with race, but everything to do with being an idiot.
This comment is addressed to post no. 44.
AA is law. Deal with it as I have for many decades. If you don't want to lose a "spot" to a minority on the basis of AA, then don't be a marginal candidate. If you meet the bare minimum criteria, that may not be enough if you factor AA. If you don't want to fall "victim" to AA, go above the minimum criteria and be outstanding. I have no respect for anyone who says "I could have gone here or worked there had Leroy or Terrance not taken my spot." That line got stale real quickly. In the end, AA only helps so much. In the real world, AA is almost a non-factor.
the genius of JaKe is that he can ironically point out the most awful beliefs and prejudices with a straight face.
Bossip is now reporting that the law student is gay!
http://bossip.com/155891/update-rihannas-new-man-piece-may-belong-to-someone-else
42. fair enough
43. so obvious that it's sad someone had to say it.
47. Thank you for engaging in this debate without resorting to racial stereotypes. However I respectfully disagree with your point. I'll explain my argument here in a different forum.
--Elie
Another shiTTTy argument from MysTTTal
I can explain why the link was NSFW, but I need to finish rubbing one out first
How someone chooses to communicate to his followers via twitter is not a relfection of how he would right a brief or draft an asset purchase agreement.
relfection?
right?
You utter pinhead. If you're going to defend shitty grammar based on audience and context, learn how to use it properly yourself for this forum, or at least take 30 seconds to proofread before you post. I promise I won't make fun of you while your lips move when you're doing it.
51, 54. Trolled by subtle trolling. Nice work, 43.
55 -- tahnk you.
43
55, what the hell is going on? I am so damn confused I could choke a bitch.
Howard Law produces some pretty top-notch attorneys. And by top-notch I mean smart AND not total douchebags, which is more than I can say for most schools.
58, there are a lot of TTT and T4 schools that do, including my alma mater.
The only way to end discrimination is to have white men run everything, the way God intended.
Who cares whether this kid is a jackass or not? How about some pictures of his alleged girlfriends instead of him? How am I supposed to flog the dolphin without visual aids?
58 & 59 - nobody cares.
60, Asians seem to be doing ok without affirmative action.
You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking.
-- Joe Biden
Elie:
Sad to see that you fell for PE's "I am not opposed to the concept of affirmative action" hook, line and sinker. Paraphrasing the immortal words of Joe Wilson: "He Lies!" Earlier, PE wrote the following about President Obama:
"President Obama has no governing experience and his decisions thus far have proven that he is incompetent and unfit to lead this nation. His solution to the economic meltdown is to create print more money (which devalues our currency and creates super inflation) and throw money at the problem rather than formulate practical solutions. He appointed a tax scofflaw to engineer a solution to the current economic crisis. President Obama's impact on this nation is already being felt, just read the headlines. People are committing suicide because they are losing their jobs. Families are going hungry and businesses are closing shop as a result of Obama's oppressive tax strategies. And yes, I have lost money as a result of Obama and have had to layoff some workers who were undeserving of termination. Obama left me no choice."
Then he wrote that the reason for President Obama's "incompetence" is because of some idiotic notion that the President is the beneficiary of affirmative action:
"Obama is a product of affirmative action. He went to Harvard Law School based on that policy. What college did Obama transfer from before landing at Columbia? Let me hear it. "
PE may not be opposed to the "concept" of affirmative action, but he is certainly opposed to any perceived application of it, real, or in the case of President Obama, imagined.
I don't know, 58. Howard Law gets a lot Morehouse graduates and GQ wasn't too far off the mark . . . .

61, I know, which is why it is so funny. <3 59
The tweet is not appropriate, and it's not a racial or AA thing.
Using language and slang and terminology in his tweets is a poor choice if he is a law student. If this info is public, it's the same as having the class to not have any naked pictures of yourself on a public website. Just block your facebook or keep it PC.
He's officially a loser. He deserves to be mocked. However, it's not a race thing. It's a douchebag thing.
It would be reasonable to suspect PE is from S&C, given what he says in post 17. But since he's 19 and lives in his mother's basement, it's probably unlikely.
PE got totally scared that Elie called him a racist and printed a retraction. That is the best part or all of this. You see the power such an accusation yields? I also did find the language in the tweet surprising for someone that is a law student. Does that make me racist?
I would also find it surprising for a G'Town student to Tweet something along the lines of a valley girl - "Like I am totally not dating Rihanna, as if ... She is super cool and all and I would totally but like I already have a BFF." Both forms of communication sound pretty ignorant and juvenile to me. That is kind of the point.
Jew and Asians came to the country with nothing and seem to have figured it out without AA. In some cases the institutional racism is worse. The Jews started their own firms and schools. Howard simply does not rival Georgetown in the way NYU law (Jews) now matches Columbia.Sorry.
70 -
Africans came to this country involuntarily and in servitude. There is no comparison between them and any other ethnic group that came to this country voluntarily. If the early settlers of this country had decided to pick their own cotton we wouldn't be having this argument.
71, Barack Obama Senior came to this country as a slave, right?
When I was in elementary school, my family moved to the South and I literally could not understand a lot of the other kids. They would repeat themselves and I would just stare at them, clueless as to what actual English words were supposed to be coming out of their mouths.
I feel like that now. I don't know what a "bangin" woman is, though I can guess. I don't know who a "shorty" is nor what happens when the shorty is "whilin out." At least I know what "bogus" means. Still clueless, I guess.
Wow, the hate on this board is hilarious. I'd like to see some of the mongrels you guys are bringing home.
And what's wrong with using incorrect language in a tweet? There's clearly some latent racism here. People use bff, idk, lol, ya, i kno, and all other kinds of incorrect grammar, but since this guy uses language that is more associated with ebonics he is an idiot? Oh ok.
There are girls in law school that say like and um 50 million times, but are smart. Just as there are smart people who sometimes speak in ebonics. It's casual speaking people.
74, the difference is that everyone uses idk or lol, even in work emails to each other sometimes these days. Bff is if you were 5 and had 2 heart necklaces.
Other than that, the other examples in your comment aren't appropriate either, as are the ones in his tweet. It's not a race thing, it's a "what is appropriate as a law student/lawyer" thing. It sucks to be judged or conform, but we all do it. I took the pictures of myself hitting the bong off of facebook when I went to law school and blocked the hell out of my page so employers can't find me.
You do what you need to do. This kids an idiot. It's not because he's black.
73,
I spent the last several years in the south, and I still do not know what those words mean either.
I did overhear a man once explain to his confidante on the lift that "shorty"---a name I took to be referring to one of his associates---was trying to beat a murder charge.
Can one be "whillin in"?
I'm as conservative as they come, and I believe 71 hit the nail on the head. It makes me so sad.
JaKe E. is awesome
His gf is not Rhianna; it's Yolanda Young. Maybe he should apply for associate and staff attorney positions at Covington.
I like how "be" is an abbreviation for "is" even though both words have the same number of letters.
As long as there is AA African in Americans won't get the respect they deserve and will always be slaves to their white liberal masters who need them.
Poor kid. Can the gossip papers really write about a private kid like this just because they think he may be dating Rhianna? What if he's just friends with her?
~Glad she doesn't have any famous friends
PE = Lat
Elie- good point on forgiving his spelling on his Twitter posts. What be ur excuse?
RT @ELLIE WHY IS ALL THE ATL ARTICLES STARTING TO BE SO WHACK! (AA)
Man Ellie be making up some bogus ass stories none of that is tru ya’ll
75,
STFU and get some perspective.. Who uses idk or lol in a work email? They should be fired. Sorry, but if this kid has impressive grades employers will not care that he once posed wearing a gold chain and holding a cigar. Lawyers with much 'dirtier' reputations have certainly found employment.
#47--actually you can turn it off and on and off and on and...you get the point.
It's called code switching and everybody does it. African Americans are the only ones who get called on it for some odd reason.
I think most would agree they use a different slang and vernacular when you speak to your friends, as opposed to your parents or at the bank. Hmmm. This guy has a different way of speaking to an online community than to his profs. Probably true.
I change the way I talk and the words I use depending on who I am talking to and I do it seamlessly because I've been doing it my whole life. I might be chatting with friends using lots of slang while I'm on hold for finaid and when I get on the phone with them its all business appropriate tones and word usage.
But more importantly, this guy does not go to GULC. There are definitely African-American male students (albeit few and far between) and he "ain't" one of them. ;-)
87,
You've obviously never had a job working with secretaries, admins, IT people, etc. I worked in real estate for years before I went to law school. It happens all the time.
And I wouldn't hire him. Maybe you would, but I wouldn't. Just a difference of opinion.
Same thing that I wouldn't hire the girl who has a public facebook picture of herself in a trampy holloween costume drunk while 18. Just shows a lackc of tact. Not that they are not smart or a bad person. To each his own.
Wake up, folks. Janero actually is an NYU law student. He plays on the intramural coed team. His father is a movie producer, which explains why he gets around with a number of celebrities. The GULC thing is either an impostor or a smoke screen. Either way, the guy in the photo has a reputation - even on campus - as a ladies man.
Interesting comments...the jist of which being that job applicant's should be evaluated based on language used (and actions taken) in their private lives. Naturally, I suppose that means that they should also be evaluated based on facebook posts and myspace pages too, except that not too long ago I remember many anti-AA people going out of their way to defend the head of the Young Republicans for some off-color remarks that she made on her facebook page. Again...interesting.
I personally don't require people be be internally consistent, but if we are going to raise the bar to the point where AA people can no longer use slang in their private lives, I think that racists should also be prohibited from using racially offensive language in their private lives.
Anti-AA people really amuse me. I totally understand self-interest and recognize that human beings are not altruistic by nature, but please, enough already. AA is the law (at least for now) so stop your bellyaching. Also, what world are you living in if you really believe that minorities are taking the spots of white Americans ANYWHERE? Positions of control and power across all professions and sectors in our country are overwhelming held by white people. Personally, I have never been in a class that was not at least 60% white. In a nation that is rapidly becoming more Latino/Hispanic than anything else, it seems to me that white people are actually overrepresented in positions of power.
Also, for those who would contend that Asians have somehow managed to avoid the ill effects of racism in this country...please name me 10 Asian CEOs of US Fortune 500 companies. How about 10 highly-respected and strategically placed managers? Or better, please name 10 Asian partners at your firm. Notice that I didn't ask you to name 10 Japanese partners or 10 Chinese partners, etc etc. You can pick from the whole continent. In any case, I bet you can't. What is even more appalling is that I bet you can't do it even in West Coast firms where a high % of the attorneys coming out of Boalt, UCLA, USC, etc are Asian.
So please, spare me the bogus discussion about "spots" being taken from Whites, cuz that dog simply won't hunt.
Elie, don't even bother responding to these racist assholes. They might be attorneys, but they're also backwood rednecks who, at the end of the day, can't get enough of your blog no matter how much shit they talk about you and any other black person they can get their pale, hillbilly hands on. WTF is a Partner Emeritus? Some shmuck who will never be successful, and who will indubitably blame his lack of success on minorities just because Glen Beck tells him to? A piece of blue collar trash who is soooo pleased with himself because he's in law school now and he thinks he's "playing with the big boys now"? Some rich piece of crap who doesn't take law school/his job/his life seriously, and spends DAY AFTER DAY on this site giving voice to an AVATAR? Please. Keep it moving, Elie, and keep doing what you do. All your other black readers will continue to do the same, all the constant hate on this site notwithstanding...
Love how you all talk about Black people.....ugh.
