Open Thread: August MPRE Results Are Out
Results from the August 2009 sitting of the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) are out, and people are talking. In addition to posting comments, candidates have emailed us about the news. For example:
Just wanted to be the first to inform ATL that August 2009 MPRE scores are now available for download (at least mine was).
Sorry, you weren’t the first; several readers beat you to the punch. Like this one:
It’s not exciting as gunmen or layoffs, and will definitely engender some “who cares,” but MPRE scores are out.
Write “WHO CARES,” crow about your triple-digit score, or opine on whether Elizabeth Wurtzel can call herself an “attorney,” in the comments to this post.
If you passed, congratulations; if you didn’t, better luck next time.

FIRST to say, I passed!
First?
and PASSED!!
I have an interesting situation I’m hoping I could get some advice on. I am a top 10% 3L at NYLS who doesn’t have a job yet. I scored an 83 on the MPRE. I planned to practice in New York, which requires an 85. My home state, Montana, only requires an 80. Does it make sense to just go ahead and take the Montana bar exam and practice there, or should I try the MPRE again and stick with my plans to practice in New York? My understanding is that NYLS’s reputation is strongest in NY, but I studied quite extensively for the MPRE and don’t know how much higher I can score. Does anybody have any experience taking the MPRE multiple times? Please advise. Thank you.

1 - You did it wrong. You should have written:
WHO CARES.
4, you might as well start working on your burger flipping technique right now.
Sincerely,
Someone who scored a 164 on the MPRE and didn't study

One of the few things that kept me going while studying for the bar : There were people that actually scored below a 85 on the mpre. Those same people were going to take the bar.
Studied for 4.5 hours. Got a 122. How does my ass taste, bad-at-standardized-test people?

I scored a 12! Is that good?

4 - Take the MPRE again.
Guys from my high school failed the MPRE all the time, it was no big deal.
#6, you are so clearly the biggest loser in the world. Although, I would probably use an even more derogatory term to describe you.
#4, Take it again, and good luck.
#4 - move to Montana. Good luck on the bar.....anywhere.
WHO CARES
Where's the below above the law guy? He would love this post.
86 secure!
Cooley 143 -Holla!
Does anyone other than the licensing board see our scores? employers?
#4: retake it. I had a friend who got 78 the 1st go round and today he found out he got 101. You know what to expect now and what to study (those annoying comments to the rules) so retake it for sure. You'll regret it if you don't try.
Jebus I had no idea people cared about this ... I thought the MPRE was just a menial bureaucratic task to be gotten out of the way, not some sort of accomplishment that requires hard work or matters in any respect.
I stand corrected.
86 secure! Classic.
#4 -
NY will likely end up testing you on NY PR anyway, during the NY Bar. If ethics are beyond you - move beyond them. Go to Montana.
I scored a 122
The MPRE is the test everyone brags about acing without prep but for which everyone secretly studies pretty hard.
-152 without even sitting for the exam
104 - I studied a day before, hungover, PMSing with terrible cramps in front of Sex and the City Season 4.
#4 - fire up the grill.
Despite the fact that the proctors were whispering (old people whispering, so kinda loudly) during the entire exam, I passed (barely). Would have scored better had I brought earplugs though - those proctors are very distracting when you're assigned to sit in the first row.
How do you graduate in the top 10% and not bust more than an 83? I thought NYLS was a top school.

4 - You're wrong. Your situation is not interesting.
4 - Oh, and P.S. Yes, I took it twice. First time just missed 80. This time, 94. I suggest doing the Kaplan course and taking it seriously and then supplementing by borrowing someone's BarBri book. Cost me nothing. -- 28
4: Don't listen to all these asshats. Take the test again -- it's marginal effort for a lot of gain. If you studied a great deal, then it's clear you studied the wrong things. You'll have a better sense of what to focus on the next time around.
Good luck.
24 had her period while she was taking the test? gross man.
What, no bitchy comments about Sotomayor's hoop earings?
179 without even having heard of the exam. Suck on that, CLS douche.
24 -- Yeah right. There are no girls on the internet. You're clearly a dude who wants us all to believe you're a girl.
I got the score I needed to get, and I'm happy.
4 - Seriously? You're essentially asking ATL commenters what to do with your life? Figure out where you want to practice. You are apparently smart enough to work a computer, get a college degree, get into law school, etc. I guarantee you're smart enough to raise your score 2 points if you decide on NY.
18: You read the comments?
I got a 90. I didn't study at all, and that's good enough for any state.
It's all common sense. You only need to get 50% of the answers right. Eliminate either the Yes or No answers and guess. Chances are you'll pass.
show us ur boobs 24!
also some bar results were released today...i passed.
26: NYLS is NOT A TOP SCHOOL. *Sigh*
-NYU 2L
31-
I heard their periods attract bears.
40, NYLS is a top school and on par with NYU in every way except USNWR rankings. If NYLS didn't have the misfortune of being confusingly similarly named, it would probably be in the top 25.
-- NYLS 3L.
40 -
You are a loser.
That is all.
I attended the BarBri lecture the night before and got a 125 scaled score on the exam. A joke I suppose as I would have gotten a C had it been a law school exam.
I guess that is what happens when you mix in a lot of 4th tier students into the curve.
Scored a 194 without even knowing English. Up yours, CLS 2L Dud.
I once took professional responsibility. That counted as studying enough for me. 94 secure. God, I rule.
I smoked a huge blunt then walked in to the test,
knowing rule 1.1 doesn't apply to the best;
My buzz wearing off after the MPRE,
I did a little bump ski ski ski;
Found out today I hit a 138,
Fuck all you pussies who just can't equate.
-Duke Official 2L (took PR in the summer in accordance with my prestigious externship).
217, complete f'ng moron. Take that, CLS Dstud.
4, I got a 90, which isn't impressive but is a passing score in every state. I watched about a quarter of the pmbr lecture and did about 50 practice questions... Maybe 3 solid hours of prep and studying altogether. I didn't think the exam was easy because there was quite a bit of material I hadn't reviewed at all before the test but, in some ways, the examiners make it easy on you (I wouldn't quite call it common sense). As in law school, it's almost guaranteed that an answer with very definite terms (always, never, all, any, etc.) is wrong. You will see quite a few of these easy elimination answers on the test. As well, almost every question has one ridiculous answer choice you can eliminate. This process will often get you down to two choices, which brings you to guessing game time (with a fair chance of winning), if not the correct answer. HTH
If you study 1.5 days and fail the MPRE you're an idiot. If you didn't study and failed you're a lazy idiot. If you didn't study and passed, you're the f*cking man like me.
CORNELL FRAT STUD
anyone know if the test and/or answers are mailed to us?
Congrats to all that passed the MPRE. For those that did really well, I wouldn't bother studying for the bar. If you mastered the MPRE materials, you already know everything that's on the bar. Congrats again.
4 - *golf clap* Most effective troll I have seen in quite some time.
Also, if anyone really did tank it, just take the free Pieper half day course; afterward you can pretty much pass while simultaneously drunk, high, menstruating, bleeding from your eyes, blasting explosive diarrhea, performing your own appendectomy with a butter knife and being kicked in the head by a horse.
Got a 125. Read through the BarBri MPRE book and listened to the lecture online. Did 2 practice tests. Probably over-studied but better safe than sorry.
#4 - I got 120. I am a foreigner who studied English only for 7 years (undergraduate + law school). I spent about 3 weeks to prepare this exam. (total about 30 hours) If you have a specific plan for your future in NY, you should take MPRE again. Don’t listen to people who make a fun of you. I believe you will get much higher score in the next time.
For those of you who failed this time, if I can do it, you guys can do it .
- Joowon
I know a girl who failed twice. I hope she passed this time...
I scored a 289, never cracked a book in my life. Not an MPRE, not Dr. Suess, not Homer, Joyce, Salinger or Dickens. Not one book ever. In my life. Take that, Cornell Clown. Ithaca thucks.
Scored a 517 despite being aborted 23 years ago. Suck on my undescended fetal balls, CLS 2L and Cornell Frat tools.
The MPRE makes Maeby feel *crocodile.*
I PASSED!!!
but I am unemployed, with little hopes of a clerkship in the already crowded application process. So who. the. f*ck. cares.
F.M.L......................
I passed--1,063--despite being mortally wounded by the Yankee aggressor at the Battle of Shiloh. I took the exam while expiring due to consumption in an army hospital outside of Ruckersville, GA, CSA. Take that, Cornellian Yankee Roughnecks!
Mother fucker, I scored an 83 as well. I guess that's what I get for cheating off a hick.
I got a 101 studying for a few hours. It doesn't matter what your score is on this test as long as it is "just enough."
In all honesty I wish I "John McCained" it and got an 86 since at least I would get a good story out of it.*
* "John McCained:" Passing with the bare minimum. Similar to the tradition at West Point and Annapolis where students near the bottom of the class compete to achieve the lowest possible score while still allowing them to graduate.
To number four, don't worry about the MPRE. I am an NYU 3L. I did not pass for NY in March, but I got a 94 this time around. The odd thing is I spent a solid 16 hours preparing in March. This time around I spend only six hours preparing (four hours of BarBri video and two hours of reading the commercial outline on the day of the test) . I guess everything was fresh in my mind and I was more confident the second time. Do NOT let these people intimidate you or make you feel bad. You will pass next time.

#63 If you have to asterisk "John McCained," it is a dumb, forced phrase that will never catch on.

Got a 128.
Studied the week after the bar exam. Did nothing but read the explanations from the barbri book. Didn't bother reading the exam questions.
Easiest exam of my law-school career.
Gretchen, stop trying to make John McCained happen, it's not going to happen!
I tried to "Barak Obama"* the test, but I still got a 75.
* "Barack Obama" means you actually perform poorly, but the supine media gives you high marks anyway.
Frankly, law students, I don't give a damn.
Did the free Kaplan PMBR the weekend before the test, one practice question set while drunk. 104. Down from the 125 I got while in law school, but 19 points beyond passing for Virginia (and therefore 19 points of time misspent).
--In House Secure
I did a "Bill Clinton"* all over the scantron and failed, probably because the machine couldn't process the answers. Whatever, I took it again, did a "Bill Clinton" in my pants instead, and got like a 135.
* "Bill Clinton" means to take an object and use for sexual pleasure.
do they mail the test and your answers to you? do they mail the test and your answers to you? do they mail the test and your answers to you? do they mail the test and your answers to you? do they mail the test and your answers to you? do they mail the test and your answers to you?
???
I tried to do a Jimmy Carter*, thought the administrators might be impressed, but ultimately failed. Whatever, I took it the second time and passed with high marks. This time without the paper cuts.
*"Jimmy Carter" means to use an object as a buttplug.
People love to brag about how little they studied for the MPRE. It is a pretty worthless exercise.
Speaking of scores, can we get an undergrade GPA and an LSAT score for a one Barack Hussien Obama. I will accept that he is brilliant once these two questions are satisfactorily and legitimately answered. Thanks.

19, dead on.
I got a 125, but the bigger point is: WHO CARES. Its the MPRE, if you can't pass this with any studying or a PR course (and I can see how those who have neither can't pass), then don't even bother taking the bar

Hey 79, once you're president you can provide us with your standardized test scores and grade school report cards to prove how brilliant you are. You pathetic useless moronic douchebag of a Jackass. I bet you ran with scissors didn't you? Fucktard.
During a break in the MPRE, I performed the Stranger after failing at the Houdini and then Warren Gamaliel Hardinged*, regrouped and later passed with a 99.
*Warren Gamaliel Hardinged: died a hero but later considered a failure after the Teapot Dome Scandal was revealed.
82, was there a number somewhere in there? I am still waiting for an LSAT score for one Barack Saddam Hussein Obama. The media keeps telling me about how brilliant he is so I bet it is really a great score. I look forward to being awed.
84 - If you hold anybody in 'awe' based on a standardized test score in general or the LSAT in specific; you are a sad, sad, sad, little man who will have the most pathetic of turns upon this planet.
I agree with you 85. But I would still like to know the score. It is not dispositive of intelligence - but is some evidence of. The presumption is that the score is fantastically high.
what does partner emeritus say?
69 is so fetch
I think a bigger question is whether EW can ethically call herself a writer, in view of the drivel she continues to spew
Pff, MPRE, my state's bar exam results are already out.
I passed, thank you for asking.
To 4, I was in a similar situation in law school--scored an 84 the first time around and didnt know what state I would be practicing in. Everyone said how easy the test was, so I didn't study enough and didn't take a prep course. I took it again, this time with a prep course, and passed by a wide margin. I went to a top law school and passed the bar the first time I took it. Take it again. You will do better the next time.

if you need to study to pass the MPRE, then you aren't smart enough to practice law. HTH.
I scored an 87 with no study. I had to take the MPRE after the Bar Exam and was in no mood to read anything school related.
The scores range from 50 to 150. So getting a score above 150 is really quite a feat.
96, yes, THAT'S THE JOKE.
the ncbe tests are really easy to over think. so 4, it feels like you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer if "studied extensively", but I can see how this could happen. take the test again. for christ's sakes, unless you eventually plan to settle in Montana, do not go to Montana. i've lived out west.

the people here who scored triple digits and only studied for a day also probably didn't spend any real time thinking about the questions because they recognized the answer giveaways from the barbri book. good for them for having the fortitude to even focus that well, but not passing the first time is not something that requires big shame. without the Barbri book, the MBE is actually a challenging exam. and even if you did have the book and didn't pass, w/r/t the MBE I feel there's little shame in saying "i didn't study that much bc heard it was an easy exam." so to people who didn't pass, just retake it and actually focus for the day of studying.
ditto on that 95. literally NO STUDY here. although I am a bit ashamed of my 87. oh well, can't brag about not studying and bitch about passing..............
i got a 132.
of course that's after i got a 50 while sleeping through it last november and then a 79 when i bet someone i could pass it in under 40 minutes this spring.

You all make fun of being excited about passing the MPRE, but let me say as a person nervously awaiting the results from this summer's bar exam my diminished self-esteem needed a passing MPRE score. I would have been a total wreck waiting the next 6-7 weeks for bar exam results if I would have failed the MPRE. Congrats to all those that achieved the score they needed on the AUG09 MPRE and Good Luck to those that have to retake it.
104 has a point. for all those who failed the MPRE, yes, you are f*cked for the bar.
97, wait, really?
I've been practicing for 15 years but needed to take the MPRE for admission in another state. MPRE was not offered or required when I took the bar. I did the free PMBR course and worked through the practice problems in a borrowed Bar Bri outline, probably 15 hours total prep time. I did not think the test was easy, but was pretty certain I'd at least passed. 101. Yes, it's a relief!
87 and I studied my ass off
Goes to show that this blog caters to law students now.
123 last year, and that's before I took Professional responsibility. i went and heard Spak's lecture, did the practice tests, and left feeling there was a 50/50 chance I falied. i didn't, and there are people I know who actually passed the bar, but flunked the MPRE because they didn't study for it. Quite a wakeup call.
109-is that a bad thing?
Can't believe most of you are future lawyers! It's a shame! No wonder why lawyers get a bad rep!
112 - don't ruin our fun - go whine elsewhere. i can't believe YOU took the time to write your typical pathetic "oh no, lawyers are so awful" comment on our site. go boo hoo somewhere else.
good lord. i know someone in my class at a top 25 law school who failed the nov. mpre and just passed the bar (no, not me, geniuses). not that big of a deal if you flunk the mpre or don't score a 900 or something.
also, yes, no shit, this is a de facto law student/recent grad blog. working lawyers who don't like it should shut the fuck up and get back to work instead of posting comments about it. no wonder you got laid off.

I studied a couple hrs here and there for a week straight. I'm proud of my 87 and if you scored higher good for you! In the end the shit doesn't matter...An 86 or above and the score good in any state.
