I have an interesting situation I’m hoping I could get some advice on. I am a top 10% 3L at NYLS who doesn’t have a job yet. I scored an 83 on the MPRE. I planned to practice in New York, which requires an 85. My home state, Montana, only requires an 80. Does it make sense to just go ahead and take the Montana bar exam and practice there, or should I try the MPRE again and stick with my plans to practice in New York? My understanding is that NYLS’s reputation is strongest in NY, but I studied quite extensively for the MPRE and don’t know how much higher I can score. Does anybody have any experience taking the MPRE multiple times? Please advise. Thank you.

One of the few things that kept me going while studying for the bar : There were people that actually scored below a 85 on the mpre. Those same people were going to take the bar.

Studied for 4.5 hours. Got a 122. How does my ass taste, bad-at-standardized-test people?

#4: retake it. I had a friend who got 78 the 1st go round and today he found out he got 101. You know what to expect now and what to study (those annoying comments to the rules) so retake it for sure. You'll regret it if you don't try.

Despite the fact that the proctors were whispering (old people whispering, so kinda loudly) during the entire exam, I passed (barely). Would have scored better had I brought earplugs though - those proctors are very distracting when you're assigned to sit in the first row.

4: Don't listen to all these asshats. Take the test again -- it's marginal effort for a lot of gain. If you studied a great deal, then it's clear you studied the wrong things. You'll have a better sense of what to focus on the next time around.

It's all common sense. You only need to get 50% of the answers right. Eliminate either the Yes or No answers and guess. Chances are you'll pass.

I attended the BarBri lecture the night before and got a 125 scaled score on the exam. A joke I suppose as I would have gotten a C had it been a law school exam.

4, I got a 90, which isn't impressive but is a passing score in every state. I watched about a quarter of the pmbr lecture and did about 50 practice questions... Maybe 3 solid hours of prep and studying altogether. I didn't think the exam was easy because there was quite a bit of material I hadn't reviewed at all before the test but, in some ways, the examiners make it easy on you (I wouldn't quite call it common sense). As in law school, it's almost guaranteed that an answer with very definite terms (always, never, all, any, etc.) is wrong. You will see quite a few of these easy elimination answers on the test. As well, almost every question has one ridiculous answer choice you can eliminate. This process will often get you down to two choices, which brings you to guessing game time (with a fair chance of winning), if not the correct answer. HTH

Congrats to all that passed the MPRE. For those that did really well, I wouldn't bother studying for the bar. If you mastered the MPRE materials, you already know everything that's on the bar. Congrats again.

Also, if anyone really did tank it, just take the free Pieper half day course; afterward you can pretty much pass while simultaneously drunk, high, menstruating, bleeding from your eyes, blasting explosive diarrhea, performing your own appendectomy with a butter knife and being kicked in the head by a horse.

Got a 125. Read through the BarBri MPRE book and listened to the lecture online. Did 2 practice tests. Probably over-studied but better safe than sorry.

#4 - I got 120. I am a foreigner who studied English only for 7 years (undergraduate + law school). I spent about 3 weeks to prepare this exam. (total about 30 hours) If you have a specific plan for your future in NY, you should take MPRE again. Don’t listen to people who make a fun of you. I believe you will get much higher score in the next time.

I passed--1,063--despite being mortally wounded by the Yankee aggressor at the Battle of Shiloh. I took the exam while expiring due to consumption in an army hospital outside of Ruckersville, GA, CSA. Take that, Cornellian Yankee Roughnecks!

I got a 101 studying for a few hours. It doesn't matter what your score is on this test as long as it is "just enough."

In all honesty I wish I "John McCained" it and got an 86 since at least I would get a good story out of it.*

Studied the week after the bar exam. Did nothing but read the explanations from the barbri book. Didn't bother reading the exam questions.

I tried to do a Jimmy Carter*, thought the administrators might be impressed, but ultimately failed. Whatever, I took it the second time and passed with high marks. This time without the paper cuts.

I agree with you 85. But I would still like to know the score. It is not dispositive of intelligence - but is some evidence of. The presumption is that the score is fantastically high.

I scored an 87 with no study. I had to take the MPRE after the Bar Exam and was in no mood to read anything school related.

The scores range from 50 to 150. So getting a score above 150 is really quite a feat.

the people here who scored triple digits and only studied for a day also probably didn't spend any real time thinking about the questions because they recognized the answer giveaways from the barbri book. good for them for having the fortitude to even focus that well, but not passing the first time is not something that requires big shame. without the Barbri book, the MBE is actually a challenging exam. and even if you did have the book and didn't pass, w/r/t the MBE I feel there's little shame in saying "i didn't study that much bc heard it was an easy exam." so to people who didn't pass, just retake it and actually focus for the day of studying.

You all make fun of being excited about passing the MPRE, but let me say as a person nervously awaiting the results from this summer's bar exam my diminished self-esteem needed a passing MPRE score. I would have been a total wreck waiting the next 6-7 weeks for bar exam results if I would have failed the MPRE. Congrats to all those that achieved the score they needed on the AUG09 MPRE and Good Luck to those that have to retake it.

I've been practicing for 15 years but needed to take the MPRE for admission in another state. MPRE was not offered or required when I took the bar. I did the free PMBR course and worked through the practice problems in a borrowed Bar Bri outline, probably 15 hours total prep time. I did not think the test was easy, but was pretty certain I'd at least passed. 101. Yes, it's a relief!

123 last year, and that's before I took Professional responsibility. i went and heard Spak's lecture, did the practice tests, and left feeling there was a 50/50 chance I falied. i didn't, and there are people I know who actually passed the bar, but flunked the MPRE because they didn't study for it. Quite a wakeup call.

I studied a couple hrs here and there for a week straight. I'm proud of my 87 and if you scored higher good for you! In the end the shit doesn't matter...An 86 or above and the score good in any state.
