Adventures in Lawyer Advertising: Snyderman

snyderman.jpgStephen Snyder is a Maryland trial attorney who has been called “one of the nation’s top litigators.” When you surf into Snyder’s website (www.snyderwins.com), it contains a warning:

Please note: This website may, at first blush, strike you as a bit over-the-top. But it’s not designed to give you pause, or scare you away. It’s simply a reflection of Stephen L. Snyder, the man. His unique personality, creative imagination, and willingness to take risks, has resulted in multiple $100 million-plus recoveries for his clients.

If creating an animated movie featuring yourself as a legal superhero might be considered “a bit over-the-top,” then yes, “Snyderman” is guilty as charged.

I guess I probably should know this, but is his Alma mater, the University of Baltimore, accredited by the American Bar Association?

8: no. Like Hastings, Baltimore had its accreditation revoked by the ABA in mid-1990s, though it continues to maintain its state accreditation. As such, as at Hastings, its graduates may sit for the state bar exam but not those of toher states. hope this helps

Even a total dickhead can win in Baltimore, where runaway verdicts are the norm. This guy even looks like he has a dick for a head.

3--

And yet, he has made more money than any of the BigLaw trolls that browse this website (and more than they ever will).

I'm sure he's laughing at your 2,200 billable hour minimum all the way from his yacht.

What a shameful way to further denigrate the legal profession. Does Maryland have any attorney advertising rules in place to limit this "superhero" from embarrasing himself and the legal profession as a whole? Although I was voted a "Super Lawyer," I don't go advertising myself as such. This peon is obviously desperate for 1) attention and 2) clients.

I am reminded of the vintage SNL dating video spoof featuring SNL regular Gary Kroeger “Ira Needleman—I’m an oral surgeon”.

There is no parody funnier that unwitting self-parody.

16:

Not that you're even a practicing attorney, but this guy has made more money than any BigLaw partner would see in their entire career.

If anything, your attitude is what's embarrassing. When (if) you earn a law license, enjoy your faux prestige. Men like Snyder enjoy buying people like yourself. Actually, you sound like you'd make an excellent butler.

21 Posted by Partner Emeritus | Permalink Tuesday, October 27, 2009 12:22 PM

This comment is addressed to post no. 20.

Men like Snyder are beneath me and will never be my peer. I doubt he has more money than me. Why would you ridicule yourself to garner more clients? He obviously needs the money. Multi-million dollar judgments don't impress me. I know plenty of starving litigators that have multi-million dollar judgments. Try collecting on a bankrupt defendant or enjoy your wealth over a structured 30 year settlement payment plan. The truth is, Snyder would not survive one day walking in my shoes. The plaintiff's field of litigation can keep folks like Synder in the bullpen.

This is 20, PE.

You can doubt all you want, but your ignorance speaks volumes. Why would he "ridicule" himself? Do you understand the concept of marketing to a specific client base? Apparently not. I figured you'd have to throw the word peer in there somewhere.

Of course he wouldn't survive one day in your shoes. He'd probably blow his brains out in misery, as would just about everyone else that reads your drivel. Anyway, enjoy Contracts II or whatever class you're in right now.

24 Posted by evrenseven | Permalink Tuesday, October 27, 2009 12:31 PM

the attorney's share in ONE of those 5 cases on the website was $70M. I think he split it with a couple other attorneys but still, that's a phenomenal payday after taking down a corporate giant.

You guys think Ernst & Young will be so cavalier about their bankruptcy consultants or whoever it was that sunk that clothing chain? A $185M gut punch will get even a behemoth like E&Y to act right.

So yeah, this guy is a superhero. He's not sitting in a corner office shuffling contracts around making the ultra wealthy ultra wealthier. He's doing what we all thought we would be doing out first day of law school... actually helping someone.

This comment is addressed to Mr. Snyder a/k/a post no. 22.

Plaintiff's attorneys are ambulance chasers. That is a stigma you will never escape regardless of how many multi-million dollar judgments you obtain over the course of your career. You obviously did not attend any peer schools and don't have the pedigree to compete at my level. To you, prestige can only be measured with money. Quite pathetic if you ask me. While I am sure you live a better life than most of the associates that toil away at the firm, it somehow gnaws at your core that you could not follow my career path. Now you have to settle on being drawn as a cartoon character in tights with sinewy calves. And you have the nerve to question me? Go put on your cape and "rescue" a plaintiff that slipped and fell in a mall somewhere on the other side of town. That is all.

PE, this is 20/22.

The best part about this is that I'm a BigLaw associate, but I'm not delusional about my career path.

As for your comment about prestige and money, I find it ironic that you troll and mention your income and possessions on a regular basis, yet now that isn't the correct measuring stick. Once again, a self-serving post about peer this, peer that, preeminent law schools, etc.

The wealthiest attorneys I know are not at my firm, Cravath, Skadden, or Watchell-- they are high-profile personal injury litigators. Stigma or not, they are far more successful businessmen than any partner you claim to be.
