Legal Eagle Wedding Watch 10.18: Jean-John

Congratulations to Caroline Nyenke and LaRue Robinson, selected by ATL readers as our August Couple of the Month in a close race. Things were a bit more lopsided in our September Couple of the Month poll, as SCOTUS clerks and lovebirds Karen Dunn and Brian Netter took the crown with 40 percent of the vote. Both couples will compete for Couple of the Year honors in a few months.
Now, this week’s contestants:

1. Molly Rusten and Peter Rosen
2. Xixi Yin and Edward Amley Jr.
3. Simrin Parmar and John Bennett

Check out these newlyweds’ pictures and bios, after the jump.

1. Molly Rusten and Peter Rosen
(Buy them a 32-bottle wine cellar.)
The Case:
– Cornell undergrad for the bride; Princeton (with high honors) for the groom. She has a master’s in English as a second language from NYU; he has a JD from same.
– She teaches ESL at a public school in New York. He’s a corporate tax lawyer in the New York offices of the Macquarie Group.
– They get major points for registering for the All-Clad double boiler, which does double duty as a 2-quart saucepan and is one of the best wedding presents LEWW received. Seriously, everyone should register for this thing.
The Case Against:
– They have a weird proposal story. It took place at 9 a.m. and involved three boxes of personalized stationery from Smythson. It sounds like Molly was as confused by it as we are.

2. Xixi Yin and Edward Amley Jr.
The Case:
This bride, a doctor, is a fellow in cardiology at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. She graduated from China Medical University and has a master’s in pharmacology and toxicology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore.
– The groom graduated from Duke and Yale Law School. He also studied politics at the University of Namibia a Fulbright Scholar. Now he’s an associate at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in New York.
The Case Against:
– How is it possible for a white male and an Asian female to look this much alike?

3. Simrin Parmar and John Bennett
(Buy them a tomato knife.)
The Case:
– This two-JD couple met while studying at Columbia Law School. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia; he graduated from Tufts.
– She’s an associate at Cleary; he’s at Simpson Thacher.
– John is a hottie — we love the glasses! And Simrin looks positively effervescent, like an Indian Oprah.
The Case Against:
– The groom’s real name is Jean, but he goes by John. We hope his parents got a sufficient thrill from giving their kid a Frenchy name to make up for the hellish teasing he’s no doubt endured throughout his life.
The Verdict:
Team Parmar-Bennett wins our hearts and minds this week with its two law degrees, prestigious Biglaw employment, and classy black-and-white picture. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
