MPRE Review on The Cheap

lol @ attending "MPRE prep."
Get the book off a friend and do some cramming the night before. It ain't that hard.
This is hilarious. I love the chairs.
To be fair, what moron goes to an MPRE prep class? You can walk in cold and break 90 if you have half a brain.
Yeah... #s 1 and 3 have it right. I never went to MPRE prep, read over the BarBri materials three days before, and passed with flying colors.
Also, the seminar is online if you've paid for BARBRI.
fyi- in case you aren't signed up with barbri to get the reading materials, PMBR has an online review that is free to anyone, PMBR enrollee or not.
The ship be sinking...
it's the mpre. if you need to do any more than perhaps *listen* to that stupid video to pass, you are a moron.
Swasslobsters are not very comfortable during BARBRI.
I attended UB Law about 10 years ago and they did the same exact thing back then.
I took the BarBri MPRE review class in their Manhattan office, and we just had a TV that wasn't really much bigger (also for probably close to 60 people).
Really though, who cares what kind of presentation they have... it's the MPRE.
really, you don't need the prep class and this is not as bad as it could be. This summer folks who sat the NY bar but took BarBri in Connecticut has pretty much the same setup except that the chairs were replaced by a small tray-type table

UB kids, let me sum up the review for you: don't steal from your clients.
Judging by the hue and acrylic thickness of the paint on the picture, I would not be surprised if the students at Buffalo Law are suffering from lead paint posioning. That would explain their diminished capacity and competence. I think it is amazing that in this day in age young theotropic kids worship the dream of the almighty dollar at the expense of leveraging themselves out to 6 figure debt and risking exposure to health hazards such as the one plainly visible in the picture. Kids, the dream is dead. Pursue a career as a mechanic, plumber or refrigeration specialist. You'll be better off, trust me.
If I recall, BarBri is the one who provides the TVs, not the law school. Nice use of chairs if I must say.
Is the name on the screen really followed by "Esq."? Seriously, who does that anymore? Surely the good folks at barbri have access to wikipedia and the knowledge that that title doesn't actually mean anything and is stupid and pretentious, right?
Barbri is a joke, people. Switch to Themis. Same exact material, but you watch the videos online. 8 graded essays instead of 4 from barbri with feedback like "incomplete" and "not enough irac" or "failing." You get paragraphs of detailed feedback.
I was super impressed with Themis for CA.
@15 I'm very impressed by your ability to deduce the thickness of the paint from what is without a doubt a picture taken on a camera phone. I'm sure I would be able to see it too if it were not for my diminished capacity.

ATL should really have a separate section for this drivel. This story is to ATL as Idle is to Slashdot.
Frankly, imagine how much this site would improve if it was run like Slashdot - where users could submit stories and other users with positive karma can increase or decrease their ratings. Highly rated stories would appear on the front page. Come on, Lat. You know you've been thinking about doing something along these lines for a while now. Just think how it would increase the number of people who logged in as something other than "guest." And we could finally karma kill PE and JaKe into oblivion.
My testing location for the actually BarBri review used two medium-sized (maybe ~28 inch TVs for a full lecture hall class of probably 150-200. The school at which it was being held wouldn't let us use the big-screen projectors, so it was a sad sight like that, though not quite as pathetic with the ~13 inch TV.
I think those of you who make fun of the MPRE should be nicer. The MPRE is not easy for everybody. I failed it twice before passing.
I know work for Latham.
21, you, me and two other dudes are probably the only ATL readers who have any idea what a "Slashdot" is.
Who gives a crap about the MPRE? We have much more important news to discuss - how much I (...I mean we) will get paid this year in the form of a bonus.
21 - I disagree. Walk into any attorney's office in Finnegan and you're bound to find it in the first or second tab on their browser.
-not a Finnegan associate . . . really.
in all fairness, this isn't what ur BAR/BRI tuition got u. it is what happens when u attend a school like the UNIVERSITY OF BUFFALO. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
23,
I have found through most discussions with friends that those with the lowest moral and ethical standards tended to do the best on the MPRE because they view the answer as something they would never do. those with some ethical standards struggled because of how many options could be right.
the responses here confirm my thinking.
Who is this Slashdot? Did I miss his shtick?
@27, I don't understand the joke. What is wrong with Buffalo? I know plenty of Buffalo grads at V10 firms. It's the Harvard of Western New York.
18--if your Barbri practice essays got any of those comments, you are waaaay beyond the help of "detailed feedback;" you are, in fact, retarded.
You make a strong point, #27. Mostly the part where you hit the caps lock and began laughing... all by yourself.
31- I failed almost every BARBRI exam and got 103 out of 200 right on my practice multiple choice BARBRI exam. Passed CA bar first try.
A lot of people fail the so called "practice exams." They try and scare you with that crap, that's the point.
30: Insert ABA Accreditation / Baby Bar joke here.
Love the chairs...
Do any of you losers at ATL aspire for a career in journalism? If so, you should start using what's known as a "style book." It keeps relevant information about accuracy, etc. Then you'd know it's the "University at Buffalo," not the "University of Buffalo."
36: Clearly, you're an alum of the hallowed institution in question. You're making it sound like the University OF Buffalo is some TTT, while the University AT Buffalo is uber-elite. The Penn / Penn State people continue to get crap so why should posters be any nicer to you?
PE, you are sooo running out of any originality. Yes, all us kids are chasing this lawyer dream, a dream that only actually existed when you were our age.
You're a putz, a real putz
36: And P.S., even the University AT Buffalo admissions site -- http://admissions.buffalo.edu/ -- sometimes refers to it as the University OF Buffalo, so your indignation should extend back to the school itself as well.
31- I didn't get that feedback... my feedback was a tad more detailed, but nobody's feedback was more than a few sentences. The best feedback I saw on mine was "needs more analysis, otherwise pass." WTF does that mean?
The themis feedback was incredibly detailed. They can afford to hire more and better graders because they don't have to pay for facilities.
@30
Madam,
north, south, east or west (New York), there is only one HAAAARvard.
Very truly yours,
Bayside Max
I hate to spoil the ending, but it's just a guy standing at a podium the entire time. If you can hear him to fill in the blanks, you're golden. In other words, quit your whining and get to studying.
42: That's all BarBri lectures really, bar or MPRE. As long as the audio worked / could be cranked up, I'm sure it was fine, albeit embarrassing looking.
Why anyone would attend an MPRE review is beyond me when you can watch the lecture in the comfort of your own home, at your own desk, on your sofa, or in my case, while reclining in my Tempurpedic adjustible bed (ahhhhhhh)...and I did all the lectures the night before the exam. Got a 96. Which was more than good enough. LOL
4 hour lecture = waste of time. That man could've summed it all up in 2 hours or just handed me the workbook without any blanks to fill in, and I would've learned it the same way.
That being said, if I fail the MPRE I'm not going to be a happy camper.
Guy pushing Themis, you're full of crap. Took barbri and got good feedback but then again I actually wrote a good paper. BTW, there was no pass/fail it was graded with a number
24: May I please bask in the glow that is your coolness and insider awesomeness?
big deal, you just needed to hear the video. some people cry over everything.
The tv must be decently big, it seems like it needed two chairs.
That TV brings back memories of my own MPRE video session...from 1984!
You can still get a pussy pass into NYC Biglaw from SUNY Buffalo....at least I heard that CWT was hiring Buffalo Law grads with very thin resumes pre- crash.....
Kaplan PMBR, here I come...
Barbri is still in the stoneage. Check out Kaplan PMBR's FREE MPRE review (yes, FREE) course where you can watch all the lectures on line at your leisure, including workshops, tons of practice questions/explanations, and a question bank where you can create your own MPRE quizzes.
53 -- create your own MPRE quizzes? Awesome. Yes, everyone should do that. Also, for the bar, make sure to memorize the periodic table of elements.
In the amount of time it took the average person to read all of these posts, you could have studied a sufficient amount of time for the MPRE and had time for a cup of coffee. Unless you totally freak out when you take standardized tests, you should pass.
24, consider me dude #3. Nice to occasionally be in on something.
53: Free as a marketing scheme because Kaplan has virtually zero market share in bar review products aside from PMBR. And, if you're signed up for BarBri (which most people are), you get their MPRE prep free as well.
People at my high school used to create their own MPRE quizzes all the time...it was no big deal
56, you sound hostile; you must work for BarBri
That photo is hilarious. I would demand a refund.

56 - Actually Barbri's MPRE course is not free for everyone because you have to have $250 down. Unfortunately for me I couldnt afford the $250 so at least i had another free option.
