Client #9 to Speak at Harvard’s Center for Ethics
Fact: Eliot Spitzer had sex with prostitutes.
Fact: Eliot Spitzer is a hypocrite.
Fact: David Paterson has been a horrible Governor.
Conclusion: Having sex with prostitutes and being a total hypocrite isn’t the worst thing in the world?
And so, the rehabilitation of Eliot Spitzer continues. He’s on T.V., he’s writing, he’s teaching a class. I think the lesson here is supposed to be that a man’s inability to keep it in his pants doesn’t mean that he can’t be a useful voice about the economic crisis and regulatory reform.
So it’s not entirely surprising that Spitzer has been invited to speak at Harvard University by HLS professor Lawrence Lessig. The ABA Journal reports on the focus of the talk:
Spitzer’s lecture apparently will focus on law and policy: It is titled “From Ayn Rand to Ken Feinberg—How Quickly the Paradigm Shifts. What Should Be the Rationale for Government Participation in the Market?” according to a Harvard website listing for the free public talk.
Fair enough, but Professor Lessig is the director of Harvard’s Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics. And it’s the Center for Ethics that will be hosting the event.
Ethics + Eliot = Ewww.
You know things are off when a pimp is writing to a Harvard Law School professor to complain. That is precisely what is happening here, according to the Daily News. Details after the jump.
The “madam” who provided Spitzer with hookers is protesting Spitzer’s invitation:
“I am greatly intrigued as to what Mr. Spitzer could contribute to an ethical discussion when, as [governor], he broke numerous laws for which he has yet to be punished,” Kristin Davis wrote in a protest letter to Prof. Lawrence Lessig at The Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics.“As attorney general, he went around arresting and making examples out of the same escort agencies he was frequenting.”
I mean, that is a fair point isn’t it? Ms. Davis goes on to call Spitzer a “man without ethics,” the Daily News reports. Of course, as between the female pimp and the Attorney General john, I think it is safe to say that both of their glass houses have been thoroughly stoned.
Professor Lessig makes the point that “ethics” is a broad term:
Lessig said Spitzer is not giving “a lecture on ethics.”“He has instead been invited to speak as part of a series on the topic of ‘institutional corruption’,” the professor said.
That’s sounds like a great point, until you remember that Eliot Spitzer isn’t exactly the most qualified guy to be speaking about institutional ethics either. Troopergate was stalling his gubernatorial agenda long before his sexual agenda was a matter of public record.
Eliot Spitzer is kind of like a VD. He’s not going away, so we better get used to him.

first from indiana. fags.
Spitzer's family probably has some bullshit connection with the Dean of the school, getting him the gig.
firsts?
Can we talk about Supreme Court law clerks? Or something scandalous about law clerks in general?
HLS to #9!

Who can blame Spitzer for banging that girl? At least he got a hot one, unlike most politicians.
As always, kids, do as we say, not as we do.
P.S. You'll never get me, TMIEITW. You and your racist band of Eskimos can't touch the untouchables. Plus, I'm going to slap NukNuk in the face with my flipper. Take that, Eskimo privilege!
The Spitz is back like he never left.
Love. This. Guy.
A - Why SHOULD a man keep it in his pants?
B - How is the pimp unethical?
Elie, you wrote an intelligent second paragraph, but naturally I disagree with much of the rest of your article. In any event, like many men I fell prey to the powers of a hot chick's beaver. Maybe Lat cannot comprehend that, but surely you can.
Spitzer is scum.
Hmmm,
Why is the Madam so pissed off at Spitzer? Did he forget to leave money on the nightstand?
Sure, Spitzer was a hypocrite in terms of his stance on prostitution, considering that he was making use of such services himself. And he's also a hypocrite with respect to family values and his "Mr. Clean" image.
However, bad deeds in one area do not necessarily translate to an inability to be effective in others (aside from the unnecessary distraction that such deeds cause when one is in public office).
I really think it is a shame that Spitzer was effectively forced to leave office because of this. He could've provided some good leadership in the state of New York at a time when it is sorely needed. I'm glad to hear that he is speaking about these issues in a public manner, and I would like to see him come back.
And honestly, I think it would be rather interesting to have someone on an ethics panel who has actually engaged in an ethics violation. Could provide some interesting insight.
Wait. A whoremonger is complaining about someone breaking the law? That's like a fat person ragging on someone else for eating a Twinkie.
In retrospect, Spitzer should have stayed in office, daring the NY legislature to impeach him.
Spitzer's actions were less egregious than Clinton's. The storm would have passed.
WHO CARES WHAT SPITZER DOES IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE??? God, can't we just accept that politicians are pervs, and if they are good at their job, that should be all that matters.
I'm not super sure of the details being from CA, but didn't Spitzer get elected on the premise of "I'm going to clean up Wall Street?" Why is he a hypocrite if he hired prostitutes? Did he campaign on some family values wagon? I doubt it. Can we get back to real hypocrites like Prajean, who apparently has a ton more self- flaggelation videos out there? Oh, and it turns out she was 17 when she made and sent these over the internet, so it's violation of federal kiddie porn laws for both her and the recipient (although the law is hazy as to her liability). That's why those web sites wouldn't show it.
fact: mystal is a fat walrus
conclusion: he is so lousy with logic, you'd think he were flame, or an aa choice...
oh wait
Whatever. The guy was good at sticking it to Wall Street jackasses before it was cool. He just couldn't resist acting like a tool while doing it.
Given how many adolescent sexist comments Elie makes on any given day, the mock outrage here is more annoying than Spitzer's rehab show.
On a positive note, this article burned through a whole day's posturing allotment, so I'm hoping for real stories from here on in.
Spitzer loves Pelosi's jugs.
Lessig is a God. That is all.
Are you posting that hideous picture of Spitzer to remind us all why he had to pay for it?
What an ugly, ugly man.
I wouldn't be able to focus on anything he's saying. I wouldn't be able to shutout the thought of this ugly, middle aged fuck flopping around on top of some prostitute for cash.
Why can't he just go away?
You know you an ATL junkie when you know who Client #9 is without hesitation.
-Said Junkie
Is anyone going after the NY AG for all the frivilous suits Spitzer filed against insurance companies just so he could make a name for himself?
Sloppy seconds, terrible thirds, eff that fourths...what ninths?
David Paterson is not a horrible governor. He has had to deal with a mess that Client #9 left behind, and it wasn't just dirty sheets. Plus, #9 is speaking on the role of gov't in the marketplace, not ethics.
This is crazy. I mean, what's next, Jesse Jackson, who called Jews "Hymies" and New York City "Hymietown," opining about race relations?
maybe lessig should stick to copyright.
13 & 15, he was not a good governor. He thought being a "-------- steamroller" (his words) was enough. He accomplished nothing and abused the State Police.
13 is right, and Elie's reference to David Patterson being a horrible governor is just foolish regurgitation of substance-free local headlines. He hasn't been a horrible governor, nor is the problem any "mess" left by Spitzer. The problem is the hopelessly corrupt and endlessly politicking NYS senate. Pathetic. Truly pathetic.
In other sex news:
Steve Phillips' mistress went on Good Morning America...sounds like she is planning to file a sexual harassment lawsuit against ESPN (what a shock)

Why does a school like Harvard even have a center for ethics? The school is basically a factory for the production of i-bankers and Biglaw associates, neither of whom have any interest in ethics and neither of whom have the need or even the desire to behave ethically.
Can you not understand the difference between having a personal taste for prostitutes and enforcing laws passed by the legislature against prostitution? That's not even law school; it's civics.
Is he also going to talk about how much he loves having his anus licked?
Spitzer is a piece of shit; its too bad that crazy chimp didnt attack him instead.
krist 28, lighten the heck up or you're going to give the guy from indiana a rash.
33, well done, sir. very well done.
34, however, for the win!
I suppose I should know this, but is Harvard Law School accredited by the ABA? I've been looking for some guidance, but can't seem to find anything definitive. Can anyone clarify?
This just in....Obama spokesman says Bush administration at fault for climate that caused Spitzer's sex addiction. More to come.
This just in....Obama spokesman says Bush administration at fault for climate that caused Spitzer's sex addiction. More to come.
Spitzer has a horizontal vagina and an asslobster.
16 - a lot of people would say that paying a woman for sex and breaking laws are not included in one's "personal life." It's entirely different than if Spitzer had been having a consensual affair with his neighbor, for instance.
Umm... #16 - I think that the concern about Spitzer's private life here is that, maybe, if I can suggest something, HE WAS FLAGRANTLY BREAKING THE F-ING LAW WHEN HE WAS GOVERNOR!
Do you think that counts as something people should get worked up about? Or do we live in an era when the people making the rules don't have to live by them?
If you let this sort of crap slip by, then the next thing you know, the guy in charge of writing the tax laws will think he can get away with failing to report income? Or the Senate will start confirming nominees to the President's cabinet who cheat on their taxes!
Logic 101: Being able to speak intelligently about ethics has nothing to do with being able to live according to those ethics. See 99% of the world's philosophers and religious figures.
33--
Way to steal my thunder...at least you forgot to mention that HLS also pumps out criminal corporate enablers at a higher rate than any law school in the country.
Nonetheless, I vote you for the win.
ELIOT SPITZER ANYWHERE NEAR THE VICINITY OF ETHICS IS ABOUT AS WRONG AS OBAMA ANYWHERE NEAR THE VICINITY OF THE PRESIDENCY. BOTH ARE IDIOTS WHO GOT CAUGHT DOING THINGS THEY SHOULDN'T DO. FOR SPITZER, IT WAS SEX-RELATED. FOR OBAMA, IT'S A FAILURE TO DO ANYTHING (BECAUSE, LET'S FACE IT, HE CAN'T...IT'S NOT EVEN A QUESTION OF WHETHER HE DOES ANYTHING WELL OR OTHERWISE, HE HAS YET TO PROVE HE'S DONE SOMETHING...EVER).
Eliot had some very kind words for me after I settled my lawsuit. It was kind of cute when he asked if he could have an autographed copy of my video.
Carrie Prejean
What does ethics have to do with "my magic pussy"?Seriously?
Ashely Dupre
It's not fair that his penis has been inside hotter women than mine.

The all-caps really makes your otherwise conclusory non-sequitur more persuasive.
Brings back good memories of my clerking days, when FTTs would perfunctorily submit briefs that would capitalize, underline, and bold certain parts of a contract, statute, case, etc. Amazingly enough, the emphasized portions of the text were often insignificant or, in some cases, actually antithetical to the litigant's position.

What kind of idiot could believe your artificial dichotomy between "cleaning up wall street" and the rest of his responsibilities? How could calling for imposing moral order in one sphere, but engaging in immoral, criminal action in another not be deemed hypocrisy?
How is prejean a "real" hypocrite and Spitzer a "fake" one?
Are you "super" sure that makes any sense?
Yeah, he's a lawbreaker and a hypocrite. But for those of you who live in New York - David Patterson? Really??? You wish you had Spitzer back.
The topic should be "Beyond Good and Evil"; a transvaluation of Morals.
Forget Spitzer and Ashley Dupre. I want more information about that Assara woman who keeps popping up (pun intended) on my screen as a ATL advertiser. With all due respect to Kash, who's remains smokin', she's someone I'd like to learn more about via an Interrogatory, or something. Can you please break down the thin wall between editorial and publishing and do a post on her? The ad already blurs the line with a "half Skadden" reference. I thought maybe this was part of the Lat family business of doctors, but I can't get any info on the Internets. Please help us all.
No. 9 was one of my clients - the guy was a real freak. Yuk.
Uhhnn, yeeass, preeese send up u best girra an I wanna one who no spitzer. No this is ma rear namea Erriot ... I mean Gorge Foxe. Chop chop you send her up nowa or I indict your ass. No this is no fake accent. This is rear shit asshor. Send girra who no spitz my road or you goin to jaior asshor! Now! Goddamit!
- Johnny WannaNoSpitzer
The Madam did time while Eliot walked.
Eliot lied repeatedly about using the NY state police to spy on his political opponents- something you liberals went CRAZY over and when Nixon did it.
Spitzer was a great Attorney General ? While he was blackmailing companies on Wall street the Madoff and NY pension fund scandals happened under his nose.
Spitzer is a arrogant meglomaniac prick and Harvard lowers itself by inviting him
Lessig should be shot
