Non-Sequiturs: 11.23.09
ATL readers were out in force after this weekend’s Harvard-Yale Game. Go Crimson! (Click on the image to enlarge; you can see “Non-Sequiturs” in the lower right-hand corner of the sign.)
* The Ninth Circuit hates turkeys. [Siouxsie Law]
* Xbox modders feel unfairly maligned, and they are uniting. It could be epic. I hope Kratos gets involved. [Daily Tech]
* Wesley Snipes is appealing his tax conviction. He apologized and feels the length of his jail time is unreasonable. I made a similar argument to the cable company after I watched Blade Trinity. But they wouldn’t give me that time back. [Going Concern]
* Are baby boomers Luddites? [What About Clients?]
* This is funny because it is true. [The Volokh Conspiracy]
* The Deliberations blog might be going away, but the Wisconsin Humane Society is gaining a great leader. [Deliberations]
* Ireland’s not getting a World Cup berth. But they are getting a Blawg Review, so all is not lost. [Human Rights in Ireland via Blawg Review]
* If you will be in D.C. on December 2, feel free to request an invitation to the Above the Law holiday happy hour, sponsored by Applied Discovery. To submit an invite request — space at the event is limited — please click on the link. Thanks! [Above the Law]

FIRST TO SAY WHAT A TOOL.
Christ, Elie: it's spelled "Siouxsie." Just...try and focus for another hour or so, and then you can go home and nap.
there are no words
Fat smelly douchebag milkshake
Wow!! I guess ATL readers really were out in force! I can see all five of them in the stands behind the d-bag holding the sign.
There used to be six, but Partner Emeritus died after reading Susanna's "novel".
Its Bizarro Elie!
Retired partner here: It takes real balls for someone of the younger generation to take shots at Baby Boomers. We gave you everything you have, except for the good manners to say "thank you." Well, fuck each and every one of you. Before it's over, us Boomers will drain the American economy of all its wealth, mortgage your future until you have no future, tax you death to pay for our benefits, and kill all the jobs. Again, I say fuck you, each and every one of you.
nice bow-tie dick cheese...this looks like the quintessential harvard type who has no friends and no life, just the law and a sense of entitlement to get him through the day.
that guy in that picture makes Tucker Carlson look like Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Why are there so many police lined up behind this guy? Tell me it's actually a firing squad about to take that lamer out.
Actually, didn't I read that rather than playing each other both the Harvard and Yale teams were going to take on the local police academy intramural team this year?
Hey, give the guy some respect. He was Kash's date to the game.
10 is right. Why are there so many cops? Are they really afraid that a bunch of pencil neck pencil dicks are going to do something? Christ, there are going to be scarier riots at Wal Mart this friday than the worst possible scenario involving a bunch of nerds at an ivy league football game.
@11 - Shut your infidel mouth before I cut out your tongue and feed it to my pet jackal.

The New Haven police heard that Yale graduate Sonia Sotomayor was going to attend The Game, and they all came to the Yale Bowl to harass her.
the SWAT is definitely required in this case because some serious shit can break out whenever you get a bunch of smart asses together... for example, the real subject of this photo is not the ATL sign, rather the photo was a surveilance photo taken to determine nearest exits, positions of police, and so on...
Seriously? What a loser
CHECK YOU TWATWAFFLES
Um, Kratos isn't on Xbox. Nerdy pop culture reference FAIL.
Ben Bernanke should make a bold call and raise interest rates by 0.5% immediately. This will have five immensely positive steps. 1) It would show Congress that Ben B. has the balls to get the job done and that Congress better think long and hard about it spends the People's money. 2) It would cause the gold price to drop. The "pull your money out of the banks and buy gold because the end is nigh" crowd would get a needed kick in the pants causing them to spend again and have greater faith in the American dollar. 3) Oil would drop to $40 a barrel giving the average car driving consumer an extra $40 bucks to spend. 4) The euro, yen, and other currencies would take a hit easing concerns that the dollar is about to totally collapse and 5)It would reward those investors who hold our debt or who keep cash in the cds, savings accounts, etc. The past two years of rate cuts and 0% rates have really hurt these investors and they deserve to be rewarded for having faith in the dollar.
I look at that picture and the only word that comes to mind is "goober."
Seriously, you brought a bowtie and an Above the Law Sign to a football game?
That kid looks like a Harvard LAW student since I can't believe an undergrad would be such a dickcheese as to wear a bowtie to a football game. If you only went to either school for a post-grad degree (i.e. law) then understand this is NOT YOUR RIVALRY and get the hell out of the stadium - you don't fit in and just look like a twat. Go read some torts with your other ugly, socially retarded, 27-yr old virgin classmates.
There a lot of cops there to prevent students/fans from ripping down the goal posts after the game. Now, what is funny about this is that neither Harvard nor Yale fans would be capable of such a feat.
Thank you for that very kind farewell; I'm honored and grateful.
Anne Reed, Deliberations (and the Wisconsin Humane Society)
I am going to dedicate the next week of my life to following this guy around campus and randomly kicking him in the nuts.

Will Kash be at the happy hour? If so, count me in!
WTF? When did Harvard and Yale start playing football? Is it two-hand-touch or flag?
22, ftw!
mr. bowtie's a fucking transfer.
typical transfer gunner.

Uh...26...the two teams started playing each other in the 1870s, making it the oldest rivalry in college sports. Hence why it is known as "The Game."
I also believe that Harvard has the oldest college football program in the country.
Despite that I'm an unabashed critic of FTTs, I'll give them credit (in the few cases) where it's due. It is one of the best rivalries in college sports, and the only one where trash talk features such gems as "your mother clips coupons!".
TRANSFER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Uh...30...the fact that the two teams started playing each other in the 1870s is common knowledge and, as such, it is a fact that I was well aware of when I made my comment. So let me explain sarcasm to you real quick.
Just because it is the oldest "rivalry" in college sports doesn't change the fact that both teams completely suck at football. Seriously. The Ivy League doesn't even play in bowl games and I'm pretty sure that 80% of Texas high school teams would destroy Harvard or Yale, or a combined team of the best players from Harvard and Yale.
I'm pretty sure that England has a longer history of dental science than the U.S. Likewise, I'm pretty sure that France has been studying military science for much longer than America. Get the point? Your argument sucks.
So look. If you went to Harvard or Yale, you've got plenty to brag about. You should be proud! Way to go! But get serious. You're going to try and defend Harvard and Yale football? No one cares about that rivalry except for people who actually attended those schools and who still live in that area of the country. All the Harvard and Yale grads have adopted the local rivalries -- the real rivalries -- in the areas where they now live.
Finally, please answer my question. Is it touch or flag?
-26
i don't understand the transfer hate. he probably has significantly less debt than you (scholarship at lower ranked school), significantly greater job prospects (higher grades), and one less year of being around harvard students.
why isn't transferring great??? i'm jealous of the transfers at my YHS. maybe we just express our jealousy in different ways
30... Sorry for being an ass. Just thought about what I wrote and feel bad. Sorrry.
-26/32
33, i applaud u for writing YHS, not HYS
Y is vastly superior to its second-tier rivals
notably H
33 - dumbass
everyone at harvard bested him the first time around
which is what law firms look for
Forgive me 26--I'm so used to ignorant, ridiculous comments from the FTT degenerates on this blog that I assumed you were making one. (And, I might add, the Harvard-Yale history is not quite as common knowledge as one might think. I had to explain it a couple times over the weekend.) You have to admit--there really wasn't a way to discern your apparent sarcasm from a comment that wasn't sarcastic. But in any event, I did assume too much, and I apologize.
One request I do have, though--please do not insult me by suggesting that I attended Harvard or Yale. Doing so suggests that I enable Ponzi schemes and corporate crimes for a living, and that I have reaped the fruits of revolving-door polices from anti-meritocracy and excessive grade inflation, or, as is the case now, simply no grading at all combined with self-dealt "pedigree."
I trust the above paragraph indicates that I cannot answer your question.
36 -
Wrong. Transfers at HLS generally did much better than non-transfers. Having grades was a huge plus in this economy.
ditto to 33, every transfer i know has a job. wish i had transferred.
30.
I am sorry. Truly. I didn't realize that football was so important to those whose intellects are so vastly superior. The fact that the tailgate party during the Harvard/Yale game (yes, I said *during*) is actually bigger than the game itself threw me off.
Thank you @34 for helping me realize the error of my ways. I appreciate your kindness in impersonating me so as to prevent others from judging me harshly. I am indebted to you.
To all Harvard and Yale alums: I feel very sorry about what I wrote. I did not mean to insult your schools or your traditions. I realize that the things that I wrote must be very hurtful to you due to the fact that they are entirely true and 100% accurate. Please accept my apology for pointing out that your schools suck at football and that no one cares about your worthless football game, as illustrated by the fact that law school students show up with signs hoping to get play in the Non-Sequiturs post on ATL.
If I were you, I would close the door to you big-ass corner office while you reassure yourself that, while your alma mater's football team couldn't beat most high schools, you can still command small armies of associates to do whatever you want, whenever you want.
-26/32, not 34.
37-
My apologies. I knew there was something about you that I liked.
26/32/40.
Baby boomers are luddites. My boss insists I dictate everything so my secretary can type it up, but I type better and faster than she does.
mr. bowtie sits in the front row of every class...
ShaFeef-
Are you threatening me? You will give me T.P. for my bungholio!

36,
haha, keep telling yourself that. transfer student's high GPA >>> your high LSAT score
CHECK YOU BAR RESULTS
This guy is a FUCKING STUD. Go Bowtie. Just like Andre 3000 from Outkast.
47 comments and not a single one about the Yalie coach's idiotic 4th and 22 fake punt...
I guess you all are socially inept nerds (sans bow tie and HYS pedigree).
This guy dropped that he was a "CPA" the first time I met him. Prestttigious.
How did this guy get in?
How pathetic...
First of all, the Ivy League Championship was decided more than a week ago when Penn soundly defeated Harvard. The Yale/Harvard game was totally anticlimactic. Rather, it served as an opportunity for WASPy good-ole boys (and non-WASPs pretending to be---see picture above) to pat each other on the backs, smoke a few cigars, and sip some brandy.
-Penn football alum
I love harvard.
hulda clark
man what a f*ckin LOSER. ha.
This guy is clearly a Yale student. Unfortunately, anyone who would attempt such a ruse is also a douche.
I wish Brandon Spikes was in my office to gouge out my eyes so that I didn't have to see the sad guy in the bowtie at a sad sad football game with no one in the stands.
typical transfer douche.
Dude in the picture had the saaaame reputation at his old school.
Alright, just so all of you know, this picture was a joke. And I wore the bowtie pretty much just for the picture. As for those of you who claim you know me, I seriously doubt it. My guess is you are all just a bunch of haters. That is all.
I know the guy in the picture. He's a good guy and this was obviously just him having a little fun. It kills me that people on here have nothing better to do with their lives then make fun of others. Ironically, most of the commentators were probably the dorks in high school who everybody laughed at while they sat alone at lunch. Now, they're in law school and use anonymous boards like this to try to shut out those painful memories by inflicting pain on others.
Way to have fun and be different, MP! Fuck the ATL commentators.
In response to #58 -- Nice try Yale boy. Nobody would use their own free time to create such a poster, haul it to a football game, go through the effort of putting on that outfit, and have their picture taken, unless it were to covertly make fun of the OTHER school.
#59, I suspect that you're also a Yale spy, trying to make Harvard look bad by defending this guy. In fact, you're most likely the photographer.
"I grow weary of your games, Meester Bond."
So this is the kind of douche bag that spends his time thinking up stupid schticks, asking whether every law school out there is "certified by the ABA," and calling every other school a TTT. Wow, before I thought you were bored, now I think you are just pathetic.
Can someone please expose partner emeritus?
Anyone know who he really is?
Who is PE?
You people have made snide remarks regarding the fact that dude in photo was promoting the blog that you people apparently subscribe to like it's a blue pill, that he has a CPA (which I assume most of you don't), he transferred into the school that you wish you went to or hate on the fact that he got into as well (who gives a fuck how you got there?), and disrespect the fact that he is a 'gunner'. I don't know if your mommy and daddy told you, however being engaged in school IS WHY YOU ARE THERE, fucking faggots. You are not JUST there to blow mommy and daddy's trust fund (what's left of it). It's always amazing how pathetic and judgmental people are of others. Oh, and what do you bet that the bow-tie was probably some kind of joke, amongst friends (maybe you people don’t know about that, having a little fun). Glad to know you’re so serious, good luck with that. Anyone that wrote anything negative relative to this post is very sad and probably extremely unhappy with themselves. Good luck being major deutsch bags. How about this? Why not go out today, and try NOT to be an asshole.
