Staff Layoff Watch: Day Pitney Downsizes Staff

day pitney logo.jpgIncrementally, the pace of layoffs has been picking up. Perhaps firms are trying to get through all of their cuts before the holiday season?

The latest news comes from Day Pitney. A tipster reports:

Day Pitney in CT laid off 30 staff today and moved staff to lower positions.

A spokesperson from Day Pitney confirmed that the firm laid of 29 staff (not 30). The move was part of a staff reorganization and affected staffers in eight of the firm’s nine offices.

No attorneys were laid off.

Let’s check Day Pitney’s layoff history after the jump.

Back in February, Day Pitney laid off 66 staff. At the time, no attorneys were let go.

But in May, Day Pitney got around to the attorneys. The firm laid off 20 associates and counsel a couple of months after cutting staff.

Will history repeat itself?

Good luck to all of the Day Pitney staff let go today.

Who gives a shit about staff layoffs. They're just hired help to be laid off as necessary to max profitability. Actually, the same can be said for associates and staff attorneys. What's the big deal?

Day Pitney has hired the Mystal Walrus to devour all staff if they do not leave the building immediately. The staff have hire me, The Most Interesting Eskimo in the World, to stave off this blubber attack with my expert spear skills.

Gosh, I hope those 29 staff laid OF find decent replacement positions.

Wow. They say they have 400 attorneys. Still haven't heard of them. If 400 TTT attorneys get together in one firm, are they still TTT?

22: Isn't it a Beatles lyric? You know:

"The Hendersons will all be there /
Laid of Pablo Fanques' fair /
What a scene."

Nigel? Little help?

Sorry 24, I'm not familiar with those Beatles lyrics. I was once a huge Beatles fan, but when we came out with our all-black album cover for "Smell the Glove" they gave us a lot of flak for stealing the idea from their "White Album" cover. Naturally David and I were upset because the all-black cover wasn't our idea, it was shoved down our throats by Sir Denis Eton-Hogg and Bobbi Flekman of Polymer Records. So, I have cleansed my brain of all things Beatles.

Nigel,

Stolen cover idea or not, "Smell the Glove" was indisputably a shit sandwich.

29 Posted by Nigel Tufnel | Permalink Thursday, November 5, 2009 12:55 PM

28 - it wasn't our best effort, I agree, and was not commercially successful except in Japan

I went to an interview recently where I got the distinct impression that they were replacing associates with paralegals to save money--and temp paralegals at that.

They've also notified the staff that the firm will be moving the NJ office to new (smaller) offices in Parsippany next summer. If they're still in business, that is.

Lower billable rates? Why do that when you can just go out of business, right gang?

Who the hell is running this firm? Every few months, more layoffs. They could've gotten them all over with in one fell swoop. Guess they can't see more than a couple of months ahead. Time for better management.

Former DP associate advises that they are not replacing associates with paralegals, because they're laying off paralegals as well. DP has been swirling the bowl for some time since the merger. The place is a ghost town; no work to be done. I give it through 2011 before it blows apart.

This response is 2 weeks late, but for anyone who may find this post later on looking for info, allow me to echo the previus commenter: also a former DP associate, and I can confirm that DP is just about dead, there is very little real work going on there and layoffs are happening all the time (plenty of which have not been announced, under the radar). The merger was a disaster for former-Day Berry & Howard offices, but maybe that was inevitable, merger or not. All very sad, DBH was once an awesome place to work. Now its just sort of pathetic.
