Congratulations to Akin Gump, winner of Above the Law’s inaugural holiday card contest. Check out their very funny and clever card over here.
The voting wasn’t even close. There were seven entrants, but Akin walked away with over 44 percent of the vote. It was the commenters’ favorite, too:
“I work at HayBoo [Haynes and Boone], and really like our card. But I was actually laughing (alone in my office) at Akin Gump’s. A little cliched, but still, well-executed.”
“Akin hands down. All others were simply dreadful.”
“OK, the Akin Gump ‘holiday’ card (we all know we are talking xmas cards here) is hands down the best by a very wide margin, although the Goodwin Procter ‘gift’ of a pile of blow on the mantle at the end of their e-card was a nice touch.”
(That does look like cocaine, doesn’t it? Check out the Goodwin Procter card here.)
Once again, congratulations to Akin Gump on a well-deserved victory!
P.S. We received a few nice late submissions, like Proctor Heyman (inspired by the Abbey Road album cover) and Howard Rice (donating the savings from sending electronic rather than physical cards to a charity chosen by readers). Unfortunately, we were unable to include them because voting was already underway. Check ATL early and often, so as not to miss our contests and other features.

Warren Beatty bedded 13K women?
How did HellermanBarets not win?
Actually, the Snuggie video was kinda funny, but 2 minutes too long.
OMM has the gilbert arenas case… sweet
Akin’s card looks suspiciously close to the card that won best holiday card according to LMA in 2008. interesting
It’s interesting that when law school is not in session, ATL’s comments are so few in number. Really goes to show that the majority of the readership of this blog is law students, which is bad, in and of itself.
@8 – Racist, bigoted. How do you live with yourself?
Houston lawyer
8 – CHECK YOU LOGICAL REASONING.
Everyone at my V50 firm reads ATL (including partners), but very few comment (or bother reading the comments, now that they are hidden).
Just because a higher percentage of law students comment doesn’t mean that they are a majority of ATL’s readership.
10 – Son, check your ability to read between the lines. It is obvious I meant that the majority of the people who comment on ATL articles are law students.

The comments on this site have deteriorated dramatically since I started visiting here 2 years ago. I agree that most of the comments on here nowadays are from law students. I am not sure if that was always the case, but now it really shows…
12 – I agree. The comments are not that great. Just read the main posts (which pick out good comments anyway).
Frequent commenter here. I’ve been busy with work all day — first day back from vacation and all. Isn’t it possible that a lot of other non-law school commenters are in the same boat?
My favorite holiday card was the one from ShaFeef to Kash professing his love.
-Non-law student commenter
ShaFeef’s card to Kash made out of 1000 year old papyrus was definitely the best. How did you guys miss that?
Akin is still a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad place to die .1 hours at a time.
Even in this economy.

FUNNY STUFF
We had big-time orgies in ‘05 at Akin Gump Dallas
Ithought Akin’s was annoying. At least HB’s was clever.
Looks like the work of Tom Goldstein, no?
