Cooley Godward Unfreezes(But New Salaries Are Still Chilly)

There’s good news at Cooley Godward Kronish. The firm was among the many that froze salaries last year. This month, Cooley announced it’s more of a hottie.
The good news is that the firm is taking salaries out of the freezer. The bad news is that the salaries have suffered some freezer burn.
The firm’s new base salary scale reflects some chipping away.

The new salary scale at Cooley doesn’t fit neatly into our chart. After its February 2009 salary freeze, the Cooley salary scale was:

1st Year (’08) – $160,000
2nd Year (’07) – $160,000
3rd Year (’06) – $170,000
4th Year (’05) – $185,000
5th Year (’04) – $210,000
6th Year (’03) – $230,000
7th Year (’02) – $250,000
8th Year (’01) – $265,000
9th Year (’00) – $280,000

Now that the firm has unfrozen, second years get a little bump, but not a full return to the market scale (which would put them at $170,000). It looks like the salary revision at Cooley is permanent. Here is the new salary chart:

1st Year (’09) – $160,000
2nd Year (’08) – $165,000
3rd Year (’07) – $170,000
4th Year (’06) – $185,000
5th Year (’05) – $210,000
6th Year (’04) – $230,000
7th Year (’03) – $250,000
8th Year (’02) – $265,000
9th Year (’01) – $280,000

Third years to 170k!
