Is Vinny of 'The Jersey Shore' Smarter Than You Are?

Are you one of the 21 percent of law school students who, due to the changing legal job market, regret going to law school? If going to law school was a stupid decision decision for you, then congratulations — Vinny Guadagnino, the “self-confessed mama’s boy” of Jersey Shore fame, is smarter than you are.

We mentioned his recent interview with Us Magazine before, but in case you missed it — and, judging from all the emails we’ve been getting about it, it seems many of you did — let’s go over the highlights.

Like his undergraduate GPA — which is probably higher than yours….

Vinnie Guadagnino thought about going to law school — and he might end up there someday. After all, he appreciates a “wild time with no boundaries.” He is pretty darn smart, if he does say so himself:

“I took the LSAT,” Guadagnino, 21, told UsMagazine.com at the 16th birthday bash for Sean Combs’ son, Justin, at New York City’s M2 nightclub Saturday.

“My score was decent. I had a plan that if my score was really well [sic], then I might of [sic] just went to Yale or Harvard… But it was just mediocre. I can get into law school,” he added. “I had a 3.9 GPA, Latin Honors, but I’m doing this right now. Law school is always on the back burner.”

A 3.9 is impressive, even if it falls short of Elle Woods’s 4.0 in fashion merchandising.

Regardless of what Vinny majored in, he’s probably smarter than the 21 percent of you who regret going to law school. He was shrewd enough to avoid the debt and despondence that weigh down many J.D. holders. He wasn’t seduced by the allure of a $160,000 starting salary, obtained by just a small fraction of law school graduates. He knew that practicing law wouldn’t be easy:

“To tell you the truth, man, [being a] lawyer isn’t something I wanted to do. Nobody wants to be a lawyer — it’s hard work….”

Ain’t that the truth. And it’s becoming harder to obtain, too. That’s the situation.

So stay right where you are, Vinnie. In law school, you wouldn’t have much time for GTL.

If you end up getting $10,000 an episode, which buys a lot of drinks at Bamboo — negotiations with MTV for the second season conclude today — you’ll be doing much better financially than most lawyers. And having more fun, too.
