Open Thread: How Was Your First Day of Work?

This past Tuesday, January 19, was the first day of work for many class of 2009 associates. They’ve been deferred, they’ve been scraping by on stipends, but yesterday many of them finally got to start work.
Right?
On our most recent start date round-up, we noted a number of firms that pinned their class of 2009 start date to January 19th, 2010.
Were those people actually able to start on time? How did it go? Let’s discuss after the jump.


According to our most recent information, the following firms were supposed to start their incoming classes yesterday:

There are a number of firms that gave a nebulous “January 2010” start date, but Tuesday would have been a logical day to bring on new associates (or new Above the Law editors).
If you look at the above list, it’s an interesting collection of firms. It’s not exactly a list of firms that have weathered the recession by kicking ass and taking names. Yesterday, we reported on a second Bryan Cave salary freeze. Squire Sanders laid off people throughout 2009 and has already indefinitely deferred half of the people who were supposed to start yesterday. There are other tales of woe.
But not for the lucky associates who were able to finally commence their employment earlier this week. For those few, those happy few, Tuesday will be a day to be remembered.
