With more and more information becoming digitized and catalog in online databases, there will be less and less need for GCs to even hire law firms unless it's only on a high level advisory basis.
Thanks to advancements in Information Tech, GCs can easily perform the bulk of the duties that the law firms provided at a much lower cost and much less time.

#4 makes valid points. My company hires individual lawyers, not their firms. That said, we have a one-and-done model. If we receive poor service or are overcharged for the value we received, we simply never use the firm again.
One more thing. It is not the responsibility of a client to tell a lawyer if s/he is providing quality service at a reasonable price. The lawyer should know these things based on market research and individual performance.

I think the ACC restricts individuals at law firms from joing the ACC and the ACC Value Index appears to require a login to gain access, can any provide any insight as to how individuals at law firms will be able to access this information. Thx!

I bet all the ACC surveys say the following: "We want you to lower associate salaries without passing that benefit on to us, the client." Because that's what firms told me the clients are saying.

Either desktop-based comments are partially broken since the redesign, or my firm is blocking them somehow. I'm posting this from my iPhone. What gives?

This service sounds like it offers valuable insight.
We will all be shocked to learn that Peer Firms offer excellent service and a superb work product.

Biglaw's paranoia at being judged by their biggest clients should signal the depth to which their current business model is completely broken. Nobody ever stopped to think WHY ex-associates might have had axes to grind (um, hello, 2500+ billable hours?)? Nobody ever stopped to think WHY clients might have been dissatisfied (um, hello, billing rates?)? Nobody ever stopped to think WHY they'd fear a rankings mentality (um, hello, over-reliance on US News and AmLaw?)? I guess that would've been taking too much away from precious time partners could've spent deciding how to top last year's record PPP's.

Law firms suck. What more need to be said. Hire a law firm, pay the money, get shit for service and work product, and then be told that you have to suck their dicks if you want anything extra.
