It shouldn’t be that hard to find a qualified legal secretary. Actually, in this market, you can probably find a J.D. who will gladly answer phones and make copies for the chance to do anything with “legal'” in the title.

But the firm of Minor & Brown, a small law firm based in Denver, still put its best foot forward when advertising for a legal secretary opening at the firm.

And it’s one weird-ass foot. Nobody is going to mistake Minor & Brown for your grandfather’s law firm. Just take a look at their ad…

Here’s the job advertisement Minor & Brown sent out to job seekers on a Colorado listserv:

The Who: Since 1977 the law firm of Minor & Brown www.minorbrown.com has been representing business owners.

The What: As Legal secretary to two Directors and one associate.

The Ugly: There are not many firms in America, large or small, where your idiosyncrasies and foibles are meticulously documented for use at the annual holiday party.

The Good: If you want to come to work with a smile on your face and leave with a smile on your face, this is the place.

The How. Please forward your cover letter, resume, salary history and requirements to [redacted].

The fun continues over on the Minor & Brown website. They continue to expand upon this “good, bad, ugly” theme. Let’s just focus on “the good”:

The Good. If you want to come to work with a smile on your face and leave with a smile on your face, this is the place. This cannot be said of many law firms, but Minor & Brown is a fun place to work. The work is challenging, the pace can be furious, but the work is rewarding, the clients are inspiring in their entrepreneurial spirit and laughter is an every day occurrence in the halls of Minor & Brown. In short, if you don’t have a sense of humor, Minor & Brown is not the place for you.

The need for a “sense of humor” sounds like something you come up with after the last secretary was all “not cool” with you talking about her rack. But whatever.

I don’t know how many aspiring legal secretaries have the great sense of humor these guys are looking for, but I do know Minor & Brown will be flooded with applications. Because you know what’s not funny? Unemployment.
