Will the Great Blizzard of 2010 Lead to a Storm of Lawsuits?

5. Lawsuits against the Bush Administration for failing to regulate greenhouse gases, causing the climate change that led directly to the blizzard.

C’mon, people — this is New York City. When in doubt, blame the Bush Administration.

(This theory was suggested to us by one of our super-liberal friends here in the Big Apple. We think he was being tongue-in-cheek, but we’re not sure.)

One might try to argue that global warming should involve, well, warming. But that would be simple-minded. Just a day or two before the blizzard, an op-ed appeared in the hallowed pages of the New York Times, arguing that “extraordinarily snowy and cold winters” are also the result of man-made climate change.

(Read all about climate change and government efforts at regulation over at our sister site, AltTransport.)

So there you go: just a few possible ways in which this week’s epic snow storm might lead to litigation. But we’re not plaintiff’s lawyers, so we’re sure we’ve missed many other possibilities. Please identify what we’ve missed — and also mention possible defenses to liability, to help out potential defendants — in the comments. Thanks!
