  • Tax law is not the only practice group that this firm is noted for. Associates here get significant work experience early on, and they praise the firm for its support staff; associates also acknowledge, however, that the hours can be grueling and partnership is a long shot. Still, the firm earns a respectable #21 on the most-admired firm list.
  • Besides earning high marks for its tax law practice group, this firm is also the #1 most admired law firm according to Career Center users. This firm sets the standard for legal practice and its associates praise the firm for the exceptional work experience and its “generosity.” However, there is no hand-holding here, and associates are excepted to monitor their own career
    development.

  • Known to most ATL readers as the grim reaper of the 2010 bonus season, it is not surprising that this firm has fallen to #46 on the list of most admired law firms. While the partners here should spend the holidays reading a well-known book by Charles Dickens, they still know how to manage a leading law firm. Corporate/Tax is one of the four practice groups at the firm, but the firm is especially noted for its international transactional work. Time will only tell if this firm learns the meaning of Christmas and begins spreading the wealth next bonus season.
  • Even though gross revenue and profits per equity partner dropped in 2009, associates at this firm describe the morale as “generally good.” Deals and other transactional work have slowed down, but the firm still maintains a top-notch tax group with partners who "genuinely care about associates as people, not just as workers." The firm is only ranked at #70 on the most admired firm list, but it should be commended for never instituting a salary freeze or official layoff during the Great Recession.
  • This pedigreed firm is well-known for its tax and financial expertise, and its rolodex of clients covers much of Wall Street. The 125-year old firm was an instrumental player during the aftermath of the financial crisis and worked on groundbreaking deals, including TARP. While listed as the 28th most admired firm by Lateral Link readers, associates warn prospective employees of the cold and bureaucratic environment of the firm.
