Administrative Shake-Ups At A Law School Falling in the Rankings

It’s the season for law school deans to step down. We never get to know exactly why deans step down, but when students relate stats like the one below, it certainly leaves an impression.

Our tipster reports: “When she took over, [our school] was ranked tier one, around 46 or 47. Now it hovers around the upper 70s…”

Yeah, not good times. And the dean isn’t the only one on the way out. The school is making a minor shake-up in its career services department too.

Which school?

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Pitt Law dean Mary A. Crossley is out. Here’s part of the letter Pitt students received announcing the change:

It is with deep regret that I have accepted the resignation of Dean Mary Crossley, effective July 1, 2012. Professor Crossley, who has served as Dean of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law since 2005, wishes to return to her research and teaching. Her decision to step down from the deanship will conclude seven years of successful administrative leadership and service to the School and to the University.

Success is in the eye of the beholder, and right now U.S. News beholds a #71 position for Pitt Law in the rankings.

But Crossley is not the only person out at Pitt. Remember a while back when Pittsburgh students were offered the opportunity to put fliers on cars outside of concerts? Yeah, the guy who put that brilliant listing up also decided to step down. Here’s what a tipster reports:

[T]he man behind the Pitt Law CSO Flyering Cars in Parking Lots jobs suddenly resigned late on Friday.

The notification email to students told them that the man left for personal reasons.

Okay Pitt. Changes are on the way. What direction do you think the school needs to go in?
