A Strip Search Over a Chicken Sandwich at Georgia Tech?

All Georgia Tech alum Mary Clayton wanted to do before the football game was eat some Chick-Fil-A, so she tried to enter the stadium with a chicken sandwich in hand. And what started for Clayton as a game to remember turned into a day she'd like to forget, due to an alleged sandwich security strip search....

It comes as no surprise, but going to a college football game at your alma matter is supposed to be fun, even if your team sucks. And generally speaking, Georgia Tech sucks. Okay fine, the team won the ACC title in 2009, but that title was just vacated. Nobody likes a cheater.

But even if your team sucks more than Tori Black, you can still drink the suck away at a pre-game tailgate party. And if you’re heading to a home game at Georgia Tech, you can grab some Chick-Fil-A before the game, too.

And that is exactly what Georgia Tech alum Mary Clayton did before a football game in September of last year. She might not have been drinking before the game, but she definitely wanted to “eat mor chikin,” so she tried to enter the stadium with a chicken sandwich in hand. What started for Clayton as a game to remember turned into a day she’d like to forget, due to an alleged sandwich security strip search….

Chicken sandwich in hand, Clayton was stopped by security as she was rushing to her seat. After being told that she wasn’t allowed to bring the food inside the stadium, Clayton says that she threw it in the trash. When she attempted to get to her seat, she was again stopped by security. WSBTV Atlanta has more information on what happened next:

“People were saying I had a chicken sandwich hidden in the front of my pants,” Clayton said and consented to a search. “I believed at the time a reasonable search was they would pat my pockets down.”

Instead she said a female Georgia Tech police officer took her into a bathroom stall and ordered her to drop her pants.

“She then examined my underwear closely, all the way around, and when she didn’t find anything I was told to lift my shirt and bra and expose myself,” Clayton said.

Either the security officers at Georgia Tech are really hard up for Chick-Fil-A, or they have something against the brand. I mean, let’s face it, after the team’s last encounter with Chik-Fil-A, security may have been authorized to shoot first and search for sandwich evidence later.

People say that Chick-Fil-A is the most delicious fast food ever, but I’ve actually never had it before. When I was in college, my friends and I went to the mall on Sundays, and this place was always closed. That being said, I don’t know what these chicken sandwiches look like.

Are they small enough to warrant a close-up and personal underwear investigation? Can you stuff one of these babies inside of a bra or under a breast?

Security officer Shandricka McKenzie, however, has a different story about how events transpired that day. In her police report, McKenzie claimed that to her surprise, Clayton dropped her pants and lifted her shirt without instruction.

I’m sorry, but I’m not sure if I believe McKenzie. Because really, who would be willing to get half-naked in front of a security officer for no reason? How drunk would she have to have been to do that?

And so, because of her alleged bathroom strip search, Clayton and her lawyer, William Amideo, are suing in federal court, accusing Georgia Tech officers and its security company of unlawful arrest and unlawful imprisonment. Clayton, a season ticket holder, plans to give up the tickets because of the incident. Said Clayton: “They took away something that I really loved and I looked forward to each year.”

No, not her precious Chick-Fil-A. There is no word on whether she has given up chicken sandwiches. No, Georgia Tech’s security officers took away her football season. And that, in and of itself, is a crime for hardcore football fans like Clayton.
