Career Center Survey Results: Top Partners to Work For – New York (Part 3)

Today we conclude our coverage of the top New York partners to work for, as selected by our readers (see earlier coverage here and here).

These seven partners are proof that you can be a good partner who is good to associates while working at premier Biglaw firms like Chadbourne & Parke, Cadwalader, White & Case, DLA Piper, Baker Hostetler, Weil Gotshal, and Cravath.

Let’s find out how they do it….

Allen Miller. An associate praises Miller, head of Chadbourne & Parke’s corporate department, for “always tak[ing] the time to go over my work for him and always giv[ing] me fair and constructive feedback.” In addition, “he does not hesitate to push his associates to grow and learn more, without making them feel like they’re left on an island without a life raft.”

Paul Mourning. In addition to receiving the highest ratings in most survey categories, one associate says that Mourning, a Cadwalader corporate partner, is “absolutely a pleasure to work for and with.”

Jack Pace. A White & Case litigation partner, Pace sets the bar for the firm in most survey categories.

Peter Pantaleo. Pantaleo, the chair of DLA Piper’s U.S. labor and employment group, is described as having “[c]lass and [being] respectful towards associates,” and being “[d]amn funny as well.”

David Sheehan. Associates agree that Sheehan, a Baker Hostetler litigation partner, is “without a doubt the best partner I have worked for.” In particular, “David is not only counsel to the Madoff Trustee, but he is an amazing leader, mentor, and role model. He never asks his associates to work harder or put in more time than he puts in himself. His leadership skills extend from simple projects to organizing a team of hundreds of attorneys to work on thousands of cases. And he does all of this with a sense of humor and an ineffable ability to make each associate feel important and valuable to the team as a whole. There are not enough kind words for Dave Sheehan.” Another associate adds: “Considerate, giving, and thoughtful, he is also the best lawyer I have seen.”

Michael Weisser. One associate commends Weisser, a Weil Gotshal corporate partner, for “understand[ing] the business aspects of a transaction better than most other partners who sometimes have more narrow legal visions.” In addition, “he is very commercial and not combative,” “very smart,” and “he makes sure he knows everything that is going on in his field.”

Damien Zoubek. Zoubek, a Cravath corporate partner, is better than other partners or sets the bar for the firm in almost all survey categories.

Check back later this week as we move down the coast to highlight the top D.C. partners to work for. If you feel you are at a firm where the partners don’t quite measure up and you are considering a transition, let Lateral Link help you make a lateral move.
