Northwestern Law 'Bro' Offends Most Of Law School, All Of Thailand

We've gotten a lot of mileage out of the "PC Police" at Northwestern Law School. The school seems to have a number of students who are easily offended. Some of the kids there overreact at the slightest provocation. Do you want to see how they react when something actually offensive happens?

Somebody on the Northwestern Student Bar Association sent out an email to the NU listserv asking students to help with relief efforts in Thailand. In case you haven’t been paying attention to Thailand because of Joe Paterno, Obamacare, and… oh, what’s that third thing…? Ooops. Anyway, the point is that Thailand had a major flood.

The SBA listserv email contained a “personal plea” from Thai students at Northwestern Law, asking their classmates to send donations to the country.

One of the initial responses to the email came from a Northwestern Law student we’ll call “Pro Quo Bro.” He replied to the original sender — a Thai student with a very long last name beginning with “Porn,” whom Pro Quo Bro addressed as “Porno” — but also sent his message to the entire listserv:

Porno,

I hit on this Thai chick a few years back. Got nothing. Quid Pro Quo comes to mind. — Spam tag this in the future according to mass email rules.

Thanks!

To say the Northwestern board went “apesh*t” is an understatement. Here’s one that sums up the NU reaction:

What a horrible thing to say. Are you seriously a law student? Even my 9th grade son can behave far better than this. Go back home to your Mom so you can learn how to behave in adult society.

There were 20 or 30 responses to this guy. Many of them were trying to reason with him, as if the guy put the comment out there to start a reasonable discussion.

Normally, that would be the end of the story, but this is Northwestern. The PC police acted… and removed Pro Quo Bro from the listserv.

Yeah: open forum, guy says idiotic things, people slam him, and the SBA decides to ban him not just from posting anymore, but also from receiving any more listserv emails. Law students are supposed to fight with words, but this looks like the SBA enacted the mercy rule and stopped Pro Quo Bro from getting beat up any more.

I suppose this went about as expected. But instead of sending emails on the listserv, it would have been funny if Porno had rolled up on Pro Quo Bro, smacked him upside the head, and screamed “Quid Pro Quo, bitch.”
